This square, surrounded by the Museum of Antioquia and the Rafael Uribe Uribe Palace of Culture, is a 7,000 m2 outside park that displays 23 sculptures by Colombian artist Fernando Botero, who donated these for the museum's renovation in 2004. The plaza is located in an area of Medellín, Colombia known as the Old Quarter.
Fernando Botero is a figurative artist and sculptor who was born in Medellín on April 19, 1932. Most notably, his signature style, known as “Boterismo”, depicts figures in large, exaggerated volume (chubby, full-figured or fat people). His is still alive and is considered the most recognized living artist in Latin America.
Botero’s first works were exhibited in Medellín in 1948. He moved to Bogotá in 1951. In 1953, he moved to Paris, where he spent time studying artwork in the Louvre. He also lived briefly in Florence, Italy where he studied the artwork of Renaissance masters. In the past several decades Botero has lived in Paris. And each year he spends about a month in his hometown of Medellín.
The sculptures are all made out of bronze. Many of them were previously housed in museums of Paris, New York, and Madrid. The sculptures tend to have simple names, such as The Hand, Eve, Maternity, Man on horseback, and Roman Soldier to name a few.
The Botero legend suggests that rubbing the statues brings love and good fortune.

The plaza is located in an area of Medellín, Colombia known as the Old Quarter.
Throughout his career, Fernando Botero has donated several artworks to museums in Bogotá and his hometown of Medellín. In 2000, Botero donated 123 pieces of his work and 85 pieces from his personal collection to a museum in Bogota. This included works from other artists, including works by Chagall, Picasso, Robert Rauschenberg, and the French impressionists. He also donated 119 pieces to the Museum of Antioquia.
Four more of his sculptures can be found in Medellín's Berrío Park and San Antonio Plaza.

Medellin Travel Guide - Colombia Happy Times
Medellín is the second largest city in Colombia. It has over 3 million people and is the capital of the department of Antioquia. It's set in a valley running south to north just under one hour by plane from Bogotá. In 2013 Medellin was awarded the Innovative City of the Year by The Wall Street Journal.
Medellín is a vast city built north to south in the Aburrá valley and surrounded on either side by majestic mountain ranges. The wealthier classes live in the well-protected hillside neighborhood of El Poblado and Envigado (SouthEast) and Laureles (West and South of downtown). This is far removed from the action and commotion which are found in the city's center. There are the busy markets and a thriving street life that make up much of the city's charm. The city is home to a half-dozen universities, accounting for a vibrant cultural and nightlife scene fueled by thousands of young adults from all over the country. Medellín is also Colombia's second largest industrial center, and home to factories making everything from designer clothing to trucks. The city's northern hills are flooded with rural refugees from the ongoing civil war and their ingenuity in making a living is impressive. People sell anything from crayons to guinea pigs to garden earth in the bars in order to make a living.
As a relatively newer city, the architecture has a decidedly modernist appeal, which goes hand in hand with the progressiveness of its residents. Medellin also has the first (and only) Metro system in Colombia. And, for international travelers, Medellín is perhaps most famous for the Botero Museum, whose namesake is one of the most famous modern artist alive today. It is also known for its perfect climate, as witnessed by its nickname city of the eternal spring. Enough to make your trip worthy.
Medellín is surrounded by 8 smaller towns and together they form the Area Metropolitana with almost 3.5 million people. These other towns are: Bello, Itaguí, Sabaneta, La Estrella, Caldas, Copacabana, Girardota and Barbosa. The neighboring town of Envigado does not belong to this administrative association even though it is closer than many of the mentioned above. Medellín is a true conglomerate of towns and you will find it difficult to tell the borders between these municipalities. Located east of Medellín is the valley of Rionegro which is larger and higher in the mountains. This area holds some of the most important factories, recreational grounds and suburbs of the city, as well as the International Airport.
The weather in Medellín is quite mild, and the city lives up to its reputation as the 'City of everlasting spring'. Average daily temperatures are 22ºC (71ºF) , range from 15 to 30 degrees Celsius (60º-85ºF). Humidity is comfortable in the 50%-70% range. Due to its proximity to the equator there is little variation in the seasons. Due to its altitude (1,500 Mts. or 5,000 feet above see level) and moderate overcast skies, Medellin stays cool, with an occasional couple hours of strong sunshine.
Renting a car in Medellin, Colombia can enhance your visit, so it´s definitely worth considering. Take a day trip to Santa Fe de Antioquia, Santa Helena, El Peñol or Llano Grande in Rionegro. Driving from Medellin allows for spectacular views as you climb up and out of the city.

❤❤❤???????? MEDELLIN COLOMBIA MI TESORO
❤❤❤????????MEDELLIN, COLOMBIA MI TESORO???????? #medellin #colombia #cityofeternalsprings
Medellin, Colombia mi tesoro. You know I love it just much as Tupac loved LA. So if planning on traveling to Medellin or if you're already here. And love architecture, statues and little treasures just as much as I do. There are few places you might want to see while in Medellin.
Like Botero plaza where you can tour Rafael Uribe Uribe Palace of Culture with amazing rooftop views of plaza, the courtyard and the surrounding area. The building was designed in a Gothic Revival style by a Belgian architect.
And inside you will find paintings and antiques that are on displayed. While the outside is surrounded 23 bronze sculptures, created and donated by world renowned Colombian artist Fernando Botero.
These statues at the plaza include chubby women and men, a dog, a horse, a cat, Adam and eve, and many others.
Now after Botero Plaza there is another plaza nearby called Plaza Cisneros also known as Parque de Las Luces or Park of Lights, which is a popular attraction in el Centro in Medellin with 300 light poles.
And one of the easiest ways to get there from Botero plaza to walk through Hueco. Hueco, which is an area right beside the plaza that is full of thousands of small shops. Where you can find the cheapest prices for almost anything. Especially in the outlets that have shoes, shoes and shoes galore around just about every corner you turn.
Also in hueco you will find one of my favorite restaurants I like to eat at whenever I'm in Hueco called Carbon and Sabor, which has many delicious options to choose from with a yogurt shop inside called Conitos yogurt.
Now after this restaurant the Park of Lights is just around the corner. And one of the best times to see the lights is around 7pm at night so either you can come back at that time to see the lights or you can just hang around until it gets dark and if you decide to hang around.
There is a another area across the street called La Alpujarra, which has these huge statues and sculptures that sit in front of government buildings that are pretty amazing.
Last but not the least about a block an a half down from La Alpujarra there is a Zen inspired public park called Parque Pies Descalzos with restaurants and areas where you can just chill and relax after having a long day.

Chavez inaugurates petrol stations, on Colombia crisis
SHOTLIST

2. SOUNDBITE (Spanish) Hugo Chavez, President of Venezuela
Fidel (Castro) asked me not to name him but I will name him because I have learned that information came out in Colombia saying that Fidel's mediation in this case was very effective and indeed it was. It was also quick and made in good faith. We have all said, from Fidel Castro to Lula (Brazilian President Luis Inacio Lula da Silva) that Colombia had to rectify its position. Colombia cannot endorse this sort of thing.

All this is enough for me to say today, from Buenos Aires, that I consider this incident practically overcome. I am sure that my forthcoming conversations with President Uribe (Colombian President Alvaro Uribe) will be valuable and that we reopen the way for us to work together towards integration.

STORYLINE
Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez on Tuesday said that his country's most serious crisis with Colombia in decades was practically over and should be resolved during a meeting later this week with Colombian President Alvaro Uribe.
Chavez, speaking during a one-day visit to Argentina, called on Colombian officials to conduct a profound investigation into an incident involving a leader of a Colombian rebel group who had been living for several years in Venezuela.
The dispute erupted after bounty hunters paid by Colombia captured Colombian rebel Rodrigo Granda in Caracas, the Venezuelan capital, in December and handed him over to Colombian authorities at the border.
Chavez denounced the kidnapping as a violation of Venezuela's sovereignty.
The capture of Granda also brought to the surface long-festering suspicions among Colombians that Venezuela under the leftist Chavez had been sheltering Colombian rebels.
Granda belongs to the leftist Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, or FARC, which has been battling for almost 40 years to topple Colombia's government and establish a Marxist-style state.
Chavez imposed sanctions against Colombia, recalling Venezuela's ambassador from the Colombian capital, Bogota, and freezing commercial agreements between the two countries.
In a statement issued last Friday, Uribe's office said the incident has been resolved and that Uribe would meet Chavez on Thursday in Venezuela.
During the press conference in Buenos Aires on Tuesday, Chavez thanked Cuban leader Fidel Castro for his help in resolving the crisis.
Following the presser, Chavez went to the port of Buenos Aires to oversee the shipment of one thousand cows as part of the bilateral food for fuel programme agreement between Argentina and Venezuela.
Argentinean President Nestor Kirchner and Chavez extended the agreement in which Argentina sends agricultural goods, including grains and cattle, to Venezuela in exchange for diesel and other fuels.
The two leaders have urged South American countries to seek greater regional integration as a way to alleviate the financial ills afflicting the region.
Later on Tuesday, Chavez inaugurated two petrol stations in Buenos Aires under a joint venture between state-run Petroleos de Venezuela and Argentina's fledgling state energy company, Enarsa.

SUMMARY
=======
Bogotá (, , ; Spanish pronunciation: [boɣoˈta] (listen)), officially Bogotá, Distrito Capital, abbreviated Bogotá, D.C., and formerly known as Santafé/Santa Fé de Bogotá between 1991 and 2000, is the capital and largest city of Colombia, administered as the Capital District, although often erroneously thought of as part of Cundinamarca. Bogotá is a territorial entity of the first order, with the same administrative status as the departments of Colombia. It is the political, economic, administrative, industrial, artistic, cultural, and sports center of the country.
Bogotá was founded as the capital of the New Kingdom of Granada on August 6, 1538, by Spanish conquistador Gonzalo Jiménez de Quesada after a harsh expedition into the Andes conquering the Muisca. The Muisca were the indigenous inhabitants of the region and called the settlement where Bogotá was founded Bacatá, which in the Chibcha language means The Lady of the Andes. Further, the word 'Andes' in the Aymara language means shining mountain, thus rendering the full lexical signification of Bogotá as The Lady of the shining mountain. After the Battle of Boyacá on August 7, 1819, Bogotá became the capital of the independent nation of Gran Colombia. Since the Viceroyalty of New Granada's independence from the Spanish Empire and during the formation of present-day Colombia, Bogotá has remained the capital of this territory.
The city is located in the center of Colombia, on a high plateau known as the Bogotá savanna, part of the Altiplano Cundiboyacense located in the Eastern Cordillera of the Andes. It is the third-highest capital in South America (after Quito and La Paz), at an average of 2,640 metres (8,660 ft) above sea level. Subdivided into 20 localities, Bogotá has an area of 1,587 square kilometres (613 square miles) and a relatively cool climate that is constant through the year.
The city is home to central offices of the executive branch (Office of the President), the legislative branch (Congress of Colombia) and the judicial branch (Supreme Court of Justice, Constitutional Court, Council of State and the Superior Council of Judicature) of the Colombian government. Bogotá stands out for its economic strength and associated financial maturity, its attractiveness to global companies and the quality of human capital. It is the financial and commercial heart of Colombia, with the most business activity of any city in the country. The capital hosts the main financial market in Colombia and the Andean natural region, and is the leading destination for new foreign direct investment projects coming into Latin America and Colombia. It has the highest nominal GDP in the country, contributing most to the national total (24.7%), and it is the seventh-largest city by size of GDP in Latin America (about USD 159,850 million). The city's airport, El Dorado International Airport, named after the mythical El Dorado, handles the largest cargo volume in Latin America, and is third in number of people. Bogotá is home to the largest number of universities and research centers in the country, and is an important cultural center, with many theaters, libraries and museums, of which the Museo del Oro is the most important,. Bogotá ranks 52nd on the Global Cities Index 2014, and is considered a global city type Alpha − by GaWC.
