Fly Fishng New Zealand - It's not just about the fishing...
When you're fortunate enough to be fly fishing a pristine wilderness river with a good mate in New Zealand - It's not just about the fishing! The fishing was a little harder than usual, but hey, just stop, take a breath and look around - doesn't get much better than this!

N.Z. Back Country Trout Fish
A quick bit of trout fishing in a nice small stream in the New Zealand back country.
Remote South NZ, Wairaki Valley
Very remote river system, back country NZ
This is not a place that many people get to go to. Not that it matters if you are fishing, because we didn't see a single FISH, not one fish!! My experienced uncle says it's been too hot for them up there, the fish have moved down the system. You don't think Southland is Hot, but WE (Northern Aussies) were Sweating!!!
So NO FISH on this clip, but well worth watching just for the amazing scenery. AND this river has produced amazing trout in the past, just proving #thatsfishing !!! Every year is different. So the year we hunt trout is too HOT!! hahaha who would have thought!!

Freedom Camping on the Mohaka River near Napier, New Zealand
We took a whitewater rafting trip down the Mohaka River near Napier, NZ and found RVers camping along the way. We even met someone with a custom-made RV with a slide-out... very rare in NZ.
We'll be picking up our own campervan in Cairns in less than a week! We can't wait. :)
To find out more about our road trip, here's our introductory video:

Akaroa NZ Freedom Camping:
The RVgeeks are hitting the road to Oz! We'll be camping our way from the Great Barrier Reef in Cairns, 1,700 miles down Australia's magnificent Pacific Coast to Sydney. Come on along for the ride!
Look for photos on Instagram, too! @RVgeeks
If you're planning an RV trip to Australia or New Zealand, we loved our Maui campervan!
Before we pick up our campervan (that's what us Aussies call a small motorhome ????), we'll be on a 2-week vacation in yet another gigantic vehicle... a cruise ship. :)
Once we hit the road, we'll be sharing every aspect of our 2,700-kilometer drive from the Great Barrier Reef back to Sydney. We'll compare the systems on our campervan to North American RVs, experience a mix of Holiday Parks and Free Camping and of course we'll feature the famous beauty and hospitality of Oz.
Thanks for following along. We hope our trip is the great adventure we've been dreaming of.
Stay tuned!

Hawke's Bay road trips: Raft the Mohaka River
With its headwaters in the Kaimanawa and Kaweka ranges in the western reaches of Hawke's Bay, and spilling into the Pacific Ocean in the east near the town of Mohaka, the 172km-long Mohaka River traverses the width of Hawke's Bay. And with a long history as a key transport route for Māori in pre-European settlement, the Mohaka River could even be considered Hawke's Bay's original road trip.
Mohaka Rafting lay claim to ‘the best rafting in New Zealand’, and as proud owners of a 5.0 Trip Advisor rating, it’s hard to argue. The Mohaka River offers something for everyone, with Grade 2, 3 and 4/5 trips available throughout the warmer months (along with multi-day expeditions to REALLY immerse yourself in the wilderness).
So pack some togs, lunch and water, and prepare for spectacular scenery, lots of laughs, a little bit of hard work now and then, and the satisfaction of a day spent with family or friends.

The Mohaka is one of north island New Zealands premier back-country trout streams. Here, we load a large helicopter with a white water raft, provisions and a guide and fly into the absolute headwaters of the river. When we get there its ready the fly rods, inflate the raft and set off on a five day odyssey down-stream, sight casting to trophy sized trout beneath towering gorges and ferns. Campfires beside the river bed amongst incredible scenery end each days adventure.

Raft Fishing 2017 Summer Trout season New Zealand
Ken and I rafted into a beautiful river in the middle of New Zealand to chase Steel head trout. This is the start of the 2017 Summer trout fishing season and these trout have not seen any anglers for 5 months. They are all hungry and eager to take whatever is put in front of them. We are using 6 weight rods, ten foot leaders and size 12 Nymphs. The day was hot and sunny, we need a few more days like this and then out will come the dry fly's. Subscribe to my channel and watch me fish through the season, catching both Rainbow trout and Brown trout in some of the best water New Zealand has to offer. Tight lines Shane
Ngaruroro - Kuripapango to Whanawhana - 2014
Two days and 39km of whitewater kayaking on the Ngaruroro river in Hawke's Bay, New Zealand, 23-24 August 2014.
The Kuripapango to Whanawhana section is deep in the wilderness of the Kaweka ranges, with steep valleys, stunning wild scenery, and some cool (in both senses of the word) Grade II to III+ whitewater.
Awesome trip with an awesome team: Erica, Ally, Jenny, Katalla, James, Martin, Kazuto, Richard, Ross, Wouter and Nick and myself from Auckland University Canoe Club.

EPIC New Zealand Fishing
Taking advantage of a rare sunny, warm day, I walk deep into the wilderness in search of some NZ trout. Epic scenery, BIG fish and good times in the backcountry!
Wilderness Adventure, Fly Fishing In New Zealand Using A Helicopter and Camping Out in the open
In Early 2017 a very good friend and I using a helicopter flew into a very remote part of New Zealand to chase Rainbow Trout. We camped out in the bush for four nights and fished four sections of this mighty river system hooking over 60 trout. Because this was summer we used Dry Fly's for most of this, although on the last day I used a simple Nymphing rig to really good success. This was a very exciting river to fish and it had many different types of water to fish, some small some larger. Check it out, subscribe to keep up to date with what I am doing this summer and share and like if you feel it is worthy. If you would like me to make a video on something you would like to see, please add a comment and I will see if I can accommodate you. Regards Shane
