Raiatea - Great Island to Visit in French Polynesia
Raiatea is the second largest island of the Society Islands in French Polynesia, with Tahiti being the largest. It's not as beautiful as Bora Bora, HOWEVER, it's still very beautiful and has plenty to offer families.
We loved Raiatea as it offers more affordable accommodation compared to some of the other society islands, has some beautiful motus to visit, food shops to self cater and plenty to do and see.
Check out my short video to give you an idea of what to expect from Raiatea.

Out of all islands in the South Pacific Ocean that make up French Polynesia, Tahiti is the best-known and the most popular destination for yachting charters. Imagine an exotic paradise packed with jaw-dropping natural wonders including stunning waterfalls, lush forests, ancient volcanic remains, and picturesque barrier reefs. From the idyllic Bora Bora for honeymooners to Moorea and its lovely coral gardens, French Polynesia is home to many picture-perfect destinations with exotic sea-life and beautiful lagoons. Whether you wish to swim with dolphins, explore the calm waters behind barrier reefs, or enjoy French cuisine with a Polynesian influence, chartering a yacht is the best way to experience this exotic destination!
Day 1
Board your yacht in Papeete, the capital of French Polynesia. Here, you can visit the famous Robert Wan Pearl Museum and buy fresh produce at the lovely Marché de Papeete market before embarking on your voyage. The first destination on your Tahiti yacht charter adventure is the island of Moorea. Well-known for its pristine beaches and jagged volcanic mountains, Moorea is one of the most scenically stunning islands in the area. Sailing outside the reef allows you easy access to some of the best scuba diving and snorkeling spots in French Polynesia.
Day 2 and 3
In the morning, we are sailing towards the passage to Huahine Island. From pristine beaches and stone fish-parks to an ancient Polynesian temple and superb lagoons, this place has it all. Walk on the beautiful Fare Beach admire its dazzling white sand. You can also go free diving in the coral gardens and explore its fish-filled caves. What we like most about Huahine Island, is that it is a peaceful island and less touristy than other places in French Polynesia.
Day 4
The next destination on your yacht charter adventure is the gorgeous island of Raiatea. It is the second largest island in French Polynesia and offers plenty of sailing, deep-sea fishing, and scuba diving opportunities. Uturoa is the biggest town on the island and a place where you can explore the local market, dine at one of the lovely seafood restaurants, and browse for souvenirs in one of the small shops. The islands’ lagoon boasts idyllic islets for an unforgettable day on the beach. You will also have a chance to admire tropical flowers in Raiatea.
Day 5
On day 5 of our yacht charter itinerary, we are sailing towards the beautiful “vanilla” island of Tahaa. This flower-shaped main island is famous for its vanilla farms. The enchanted turquoise lagoon is surrounded by inlets of white sandy beaches, and various water activities are available including outboard canoe tours and observing eels, dolphins, and sharks. We can also take you on a guided tour of the pearl farms.
Day 6 and 7
In the morning, we are sailing to the most famous island in French Polynesia, the popular Bora Bora. Whether you wish to go on a safari around the island, explore some of the best diving spots like Tupai and Anau, or swim in a turquoise lagoon protected by a coral reef, there are plenty of activities here to keep you entertained for 2 entire days. Some of the other activities that can be arranged on your yacht charter adventure in Bora Bora include Dolphin encounters, romantic dinner on the beach, watching Polynesian fire dancer, and going on a sunset cruise. The options for having an unforgettable adventure in Bora Bora are truly endless.

The Cruise of the Snark Audiobook by Jack London | Full Audiobook with subtitles
The Cruise of the Snark (1913) is a memoir of Jack and Charmian London's 1907-1909 voyage across the Pacific. His descriptions of surf-riding, which he dubbed a royal sport, helped introduce it to and popularize it with the mainland. London writes: Through the white crest of a breaker suddenly appears a dark figure, erect, a man-fish or a sea-god, on the very forward face of the crest where the top falls over and down, driving in toward shore, buried to his loins in smoking spray, caught up by the sea and flung landward, bodily, a quarter of a mile. It is a Kanaka on a surf-board. And I know that when I have finished these lines I shall be out in that riot of colour and pounding surf, trying to bit those breakers even as he, and failing as he never failed, but living life as the best of us may live it.
