Acquiring the Rex Theatre Collection of +800 films
In 2019, thanks to the efforts of NFSA Lost Films Ambassador Anthony Buckley AM, we acquired the Keith McDonald Rex Theatre Collection of over 800 films spanning the early 1920s to the 1960s. It includes Australian silent features, Hollywood musicals, European short films and over 400 Australian newsreels, documentaries and actuality films. As can be seen in the following clip, our staff assessed the collection onsite at a farm at Teddywaddy in regional Victoria, before relocating it to our Canberra headquarters.

The Rex theatre of Carlton
We visit the Rex theatre in Charlton and talk to the chairman Hayden and Cr David Pollard.
The theatre is nearly 80 years old and is going through some renovations to bring it back up to its former glory.
Maribyrnong Drive In Charlton Rex, Projectors c1983 84
1984, plus or minus a year, it was awhile ago now, the Philips DP70 projectors in field 2 Maribyrnong were moved to the Rex in Charlton (Victoria, Australia). I have lost track of the names but one person had the foresight to film the projectors and there being moved on 8mm film. A copy was run off on VHS tape for me. The quality was never great to start with and pre-digital each transfer has a degradation. However, it is good enough to give a small glimpse of a drive in and a hard top and a pair of arguably the best 70mm projectors ever built.
