Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum 2018
Explore the Rich History of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and Auto Racing!
The Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum, located five miles northwest of downtown Indianapolis on the grounds of The Greatest Race Course in the World, and is recognized as one of the most highly visible museums in the world devoted to automobiles and auto racing. In 1987, the Speedway grounds were honored with the designation of National Historic Landmark.
Anton Tony Hulman Jr. and Karl Kizer, the Museum's first director, established a museum in 1956 to display race vehicles and memorabilia, principally associated with the Indianapolis 500 race. The first Museum building was located at the southwest corner of the Speedway's property where the Speedway's Administration Building now stands. It was large enough only to display a few vintage race cars. Before long, it was obvious something more substantial was needed.
During 1975, Hulman built the larger, more modern Museum facility within the Speedway oval, its opening coinciding with the United States Bicentennial celebration in 1976. Constructed of pre-cast cement and Wyoming quartz, the Museum’s display space measures approximately 36,000 square feet. The building also houses two gift shops owned by the Speedway, the track's retail photography store, and other offices.
The Museum’s collection encompasses race cars from many series including IndyCar, NASCAR, Formula One, Sprint, Midget, motorcycle races, and drag racing. The collection encompasses motorcycles, dragsters, cars and other vehicles that have set world land speed records at various points in history.
You can visit the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum website for more information. View Website The Museum is operated by an independent, non-profit charity.

ABOUT NERVE:
The band NERVE evolved out of Jojo Mayer’s legendary party
event “Prohibited Beatz” in New York City during the late 1990s.
Initially a platform for experimental interaction between DJ culture,
electronic, and live music, the group ultimately brings the jazz
tradition of improvisation, innovation, driving rhythms, and stylistic evolution to the digital age. NERVE re-examines and transcends the relationship between human creativity and digital technology and has created a new form of musical expression, which is completely unique in the world today. Members of the band include Jojo Mayer on drums, John Davis on bass and low end manipulation, Jacob Bergson on keyboard and synthesizers, and Aaron Nevezie on sound and real time audio deconstruction.
Swiss born Jojo Mayer started playing drums at an early age. By age 18, he received his first international exposure when touring with Monty Alexander and backing up jazz legends such as Dizzy Gillespie and Nina Simone. In the early 1990s, Mayer moved from Europe to New York City, where he performed with a wide range of artists in various styles. Artists that Mayer has performed with include The Screaming Headless Torsos, Meshell n’dege Occello, DJ Spooky, Emergency Broadcast Network, the Vienna Art Orchestra, Wolfgang Muthspiel, Harry Pepl, Gerald Veasley, John Zorn, George Adams, Jamaaladeen Tacuma, John Medeski, Leni Stern, Wolfgang Puschnigg, Friedrich Gulda, Harry Sokal, Steve Coleman’s 5 Elements, and Wah Wah Watson. As the bandleader of NERVE, his concepts and techniques of reverse engineering electronic drumbeats in real time on an acoustic drumset introduced a new paradigm and opened the door for an entire generation of musicians to follow. In 2014, Modern Drummer magazine listed him as one of the “50 Greatest Drummers of All Time.”
With his experience as a multi-faceted bass player and
vast technical prowess as one of New York’s busiest recording and mix- ing engineers, John Davis has developed the extraordinary facility to emulate almost any sequenced synth bass line from his bass guitar and pedal board in real time.
Jacob Bergson initially started to work with NERVE in 2010 as a recording engineer. Recently, he has also lent his talents as a keyboardist and producer to the group. His broad stylistic experience in jazz, electronic, and pop music as well as his skills with synthesizers make him not only a perfect collaborator for NERVE, but for a wide range of contemporary artists including Rubblebucket and Janka Nabay.
Stepping into NERVE’s proprietary real time audio deconstruction concept, Aaron Nevezie interacts with and manipulates the band’s sonic output during live performances. Co-owner of The Bunker Studio, Nevezie brings years of studio-honed engineering skills and techniques to the group.

ABOUT THE PIECE:
John Luther Adams - The Mathematics of Resonant Bodies (2002)
All noise contains pure tone. And the complex sonorities of percussion instruments conceal choirs of inner voices. In The Mathematics of Resonant Bodies my search is to find and reveal those voices.
These pieces invite the soloist and the listener to traverse the topographies of eight sonic fields derived from the inherent resonances of the instruments.
1. burst - 4 snare drums
2. rumble - large bass drum
3. shimmer - 8 triangles
4. roar - large tam-tam
5. thunder - 8 low drums and 2 kick drums
6. wail - siren
7. crash - 8 suspended cymbals
8. stutter - 4 snare drums
Each piece in this cycle is composed of two elements: a solo part and an aura of pre-recorded computer-processed sounds. In performance these elements are integrated into a unified sounding image.
Depending on the size and the acoustics of the performance space, amplification of the percussion instruments may be required - not so much for loudness as to create a more spatially unified image from the live and recorded sounds. The recorded sounds are available in either stereo or a four-channel mix.
In all eight pieces the solo part and the aura begin together, continue throughout and end together. To coordinate the solos with the recorded elements, the tempo markings must be observed with absolute precision. The percussionist may wish to use a click track through earphones or a flashing light metronome hidden from the audience.
Total performance duration is about 70 minutes.
The Mathematics of Resonant Bodies was commissioned by the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, WNYC (New York) and the Subtropics Festival (Miami), with funding from Meet the Composer.
The work is dedicated to Steven Schick, with admiration, gratitude and respect.
John Luther Adams

Cami Mennitte is a student at University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire majoring in music with an emphasis on percussion. She started playing drum set at age 14 and started playing candombe around the same age. Cami is originally from Córdoba, Argentina and moved to the US to pursue a music career three years ago. In this journey the young percussionist encountered not only a different culture that she could learn from but also a much different style of playing percussion and music. Camila became interested on the cultural exchange that comes from playing music and decided that she wanted to exchange elements of south american drumming with percussionists from the northern hemisphere. This is because after three years of living in the US she had learned that there are idiosyncrasies in the music from both cultures that would be helpful for each other. Camila believes that elements of candombe can serve concert percussionists, drummers and really musicians of any kind. She plans to continue her journey in music by expanding on these concepts and learning more about drumming from both American music and Latin American music.

The Old Guard Fife & Drum Corps is the only unit of its kind in the United States Armed Forces. As an official representative of the United States Army, The Old Guard Fife & Drum Corps averages approximately 500 performances annually. The Corps has entertained millions of people at major parades, pageants, and historical celebrations throughout the United States. Additionally, the Corps has served America as a goodwill ambassador as far away as Europe, Australia, and Canada.
The HM Royal Marines Corps of Drums is the public face of the Royal Navy and Royal Marines of the United Kingdom, known and respected both for the range and quality of music making and precision on the parade ground. The Corps carries on a tradition of military music that goes back to Sir Francis Drake. Drums and bugles were used to signal important moments in the sailors' day and orders when they went into battle. Even today, the Buglers of the Royal Marines Corps of Drums still lead the bands on parade. On October 28, 2014 the Royal Marines celebrated their 350th anniversary.
