Hiking @ Riding Mountain National Park + Wasagaming // Road Trip 2019
We saw 2 moose and a baby bear!! First time seeing both, really exciting and memorable. We also saw countless deer, and had our eyes peeled for an elk but didn't catch any. Riding Mountain National Park is really a great place to see wildlife, right from the road as you pull over and sit in your car. Really great!
The next morning, we took a short 9.2km hike, and then checked out Wasagaming. The hike was fairly uneventful but it only took 3 hours. Afterwards, Wasagaming was a real surprise. We've never seen a small town with restaurants and attractions for kids in a National Park before. The beach was full of families and people of all ages enjoying the sun on the Canada Day long weekend.
All in all, Riding Mountain was a great stop on our road trip! Now on to Saskatchewan!

Riding Mountain National Park
Riding Mountain National Park is a national park in Manitoba, Canada. The park sits atop the Manitoba Escarpment. Consisting of a protected area 2,969 km2 (1,146 sq mi), the forested parkland stands in sharp contrast to the surrounding prairie farmland. It was designated a national park because it protects three different ecosystems that converge in the area; grasslands, upland boreal and eastern deciduous forests. It is most easily reached by Highway 10 which passes through the park. The south entrance is at the townsite of Wasagaming, which is the only commercial centre within the park boundaries.
The park located Manitoba’s capital city Winnipeg , about 250-300 KM , to north west side. It’s is close to Dauphin city / town. Very close to nature, clear water lake , also free black bears lives in this park.public cautions needs!

t's time to visit another Canadian National Park! This time we're off to Riding Mountain National Park in Manitoba, and we camp at lake Audy. On the way back to civilization we even got lucky enough to see a bison / Buffalo and a black bear both feeding right beside the road! The RV living lifestyle continues friends.????
Howdy howdy everyone, welcome back and thanks for being here. We took a little camping break before hitting the open road again since we had been driving through the Saskatchewan and Manitoba prairies for awhile now. We want to visit as many National Parks as reasonably feasible as we continue to RV Canada so Riding Mountain National Park made sense to do now. We are leaving some stops for the trip back across the country, but we wanted to camp.
It was a slight drive North from Brandon Manitoba where we had previously spent the night at Walmart in the RV. The first town you encounter before Riding Mountain us Onanole. From the turn off there it was bumpy dirt roads for the poor RV, and the washboards were terrible sometimes, but we made it. Lake Audy is part of the national park, however is a bit remotely removed from the main city of Wasagaming inside of the park. We were out in the wilderness and didn't get cellular unless we stood under the building that had the signal booster antenna mounted to it, haha.
Lake Audy made for a nice little campsite so spent 2 nights there and enjoyed the remote quietness. There was a good selection of campsites, and they even had a sani dump station to use on our way out so that was nice. Mosquitos weren't bad during the day but the Manitoba mosquitos definitely came out at night still.
After two nights camping at Lake Audy, we then headed for Wasagaming the little town that is still inside of the Riding Mountain National Park. On the way there through some horrible wash board bumpy dirt roads (which I think is what caused my slide topper awning troubles I'm dealing with) we saw some large wildlife! First we saw a big male bison who had cool horns, and then a little later on we saw a black bear foraging as well! Talk about lick encounters with wildlife but I guess that's what you get going out to the remote locations. Half way through the back road drive we also came across a downed tree we wouldn't have been able to get past, luckily we had a handsaw that made short work of the tree. If we would have had to turn around it would've been a huge time, gas and bumpy road set back. Whew!
We haven't been to too many National Park towns but from Banff and this one were learning that we really love the outdoors and community vibe these parks communities give off. The whole Wasagaming area was beautiful, perhaps we will need to camp there as we RV back through the country. We also bought a little black bear magnet in honor of our friend. Sadly there was no bison magnets however.
Once we were done with Wasagaming Riding Mountain National Park, it was back to the travel life. Lake Audy is basically straight north of Brandon Manitoba, so we headed back there, grabbed water from the spot we did last time and then went to the Walmart across the road to catch a free sleep. We planned on grabbing groceries for the RV that night instead of the morning but Brandon Walmart closes at 6pm Sunday! That's still crazy to us. A town with a population of 50,000.
And that wraps up our lattest stint on the motorhome east mission. So grateful we got to see a buffalo! Next video we're back on the road and we even get in to Ontario, and get a feel for a little bit of cottage country. Sure are a lot of lakes in Ontario, unbelievable. Luke also buys a Ontario fishing license and catches a few fish!

Located along the shores of Clear Lake, Wasagaming, which bustles on busy summer days, is home to a variety of shops, restaurants, beach, golf course, boat rentals and tours to name a few. The original Parks Canada Visitor Centre remains, built in the Rustic Design tradition of the 1930's, reminding us of the early days of Canada's national parks system.
