Split’s sixteenth-century synagogue is a testament to the once-thriving Jewish community in this vibrant Croatian city.In 2014 WMF restored and replaced damaged shutters, repointed the façade, and repaired water-damaged surfaces within the sanctuary. This video offers a brief history of the site and details the restoration efforts there.

Dubrovnik Jewish Synagogue and Former Ghetto, Croatia
Dubrovnik has a Synagogue and Jewish Museum on Zudioska Street. (It's easy to find the little side street -- just look for stands selling Jewish magnets outside!)
This tiny Sephardic synagogue was built in 1342 and is the second oldest in Europe after Prague. Most of the Jews arrived in the 1500's after the expulsion from Portugal and Spain. Perhaps 45 Jews now live in Dubrovnik and 2,000 in all of Croatia.
The surrounding houses were was part of the Jewish Ghetto where Jews would be locked in like cattle in the evening.

During the World War II in bereaved Europe there were hundreds of camps for liquidation of undesirable nations.
But only in the quislingian Independent State of Croatia were founded camps for children of Serbs, Gypsies and Jews.
Camps: Sisak, Jastrebarsko, Gornja Rijeka...
Through this camps have passed 20 000 children
Only few survived
Good and brave people has helped them
Documentary film “I was just a child” is a story about the man, who has rescued 30 children from certain death from the concentration camp Gornja Rijeka during the World War II, risking his own life.
14 years old Miloš Stanišljević was 1942 on his way to find his brothers, who have been taken to a concentration camp. He has not found his brothers but he has succeeded to rescue other children, sentenced to death.
Some of those children are still alive. And they remember…
Most of us remember our childhood friends of our childhood games.
For those camp-children a game was an escape from death.

DAN SJEĆANJA NA HOLOKAUST I SPRJEČAVANJA ZLOČINA PROTIV ČOVJEČNOSTI
U povodu obilježavanja Međunarodnog dana sjećanja na holokaust i sprječavanje zločina protiv čovječnosti, a u sklopu projekta Šafran na Židovskom groblju Kozala učenici 8. razreda Osnovne škole Škurinje u suradnji sa Židovskom općinom Rijeka i Udrugom antifašističkih boraca i antifašista Grada Rijeke održali su prigodan program te pokrenuli inicijativu za postavljanje spomen-obilježja na mjestu gdje je stajala riječka Velika sinagoga.

Razgledavanje je krenulo od Peristila, preko katedrale sv. Duje, zatim židovske sinagoge, islamskog mesdžida, pravoslavne kapele sv. Save, a zaključeno je u samostanu sv. Frane. „Dobili smo priliku da dočaramo i pojasnimo taj odnos teologije kao znanosti i umjetnosti kao metode i forme kojom se izražava govor o Bogu. Zahvaljujući vlastitim prikupljenim interdisciplinarnim znanjima, te u dodiru s inspiracijom koju nude ovi prostori kao takvi došli smo do sadržaja koji će nadam se obogatiti one koji su sudjelovali“, komentirao je teološki vodič Danko Kovačević, koji je okupljenima ispreo priču vezano uz katoličke lokacije obilaska.
