Ritsurin Garden 栗林公園, is one of the most famous and most beautiful historical gardens in Japan. The garden is situated in the city of Takamatsu and is considered one of its main attractions. The garden contains a tea house, various folk art and craft exhibits, as well as various folk art and craft items for sale.
A tour through the garden generally takes one to two hours. There are various bridges, footpaths and small hills which offer a beautiful view of the garden and the surrounding scenery, most notably Mt. Shiun 紫雲山 at the western border of the garden.
In 1953, the garden was designated a Special Place of Scenic Beauty 日本の特別名勝. The many ponds and streams are full of koi and the pond at the Tea House has benches where visitors may sit and feed the fish from breadsticks purchased at the Tea House.

Ritsurin Garden (栗林公園 Ritsurin Kōen?, lit. chestnut grove garden) is one of the most famous historical gardens in Japan. The garden is situated in the city of Takamatsu and is considered one of its main attractions. Ritsurin Garden is one of Japan's most exquisite and beautiful landscape gardens, and completely free from the tourist hordes. Ritsurin (栗林公園) Garden (Ritsurin Park) sits at the foot of Mt. Shiun and its construction continued over 120 years, finally being completed in 1745. Its 13 ponds are surrounded by carefully trimmed Hakomatsu pine trees, which look like a massive bonsai display covering 750,000 square meters.
This garden is truly one of Japan's finest and shouldn't be missed. It's one of Japan's best.
Along with seeing the beautiful Takamatsu Castle as well as the beautiful Yashima Temple Ritsurin Garden can make a great day of Japan sightseeing.

Risturin Garden is a traditional Japanese garden located in the city of Takamatsu and that bears the main characteristics of the Edo era. It is composed of 6 ponds and 13 hills, beautifully arranged against the backdrop offered by the Mount Shinzuan.
Ritsurin Garden’s South Pond was established around 1620 by Takatoshi Ikoma, daimyo of Sanuki (now Kagawa). The garden was expanded by successive generations of Daimyo of the Matsudaira Family, until its completion in 1754. Ritsurin Garden was open to the public in 1875 and awarded the title of National Place of Special Scenic Beauty in 1953.

One of Japans most renowned gardens, Ritsurin is located in Takamatsu in the island of Shikoku. During my travels exploring this beautiful island I just had to head down to Ritsurin Garden and check out what all the fuss was about!
ritsurin park and ritsurin Koen are definitely worth the trip if you are in Shikoku Japan.

On the second day of our trip we explored Takamatsu City, the capital of Kagawa Prefecture.
The biggest attraction of the city is Ritsurin Koen, one of Japan's most beautiful gardens. It was founded during Edo Period by the feudal lord Ikoma Takatoshi. After a stroll in a garden we took a break at park's restaurant to cool with Zaru udon.

Probably the most amazing Japanese garden with a small mountain at the center and many lakes and historic tea houses declared to be NATIONAL SCENIC BEAUTY of JAPAN!! The pine trees are painstakingly curated and contorted, it features a couple of traditional rounded bridges and you can ride traditional boats but must buy the ticket early morning first thing when arriving otherwise they will be soldout! It opens at 5am!!
