RIVERPARKS WEST AND EAST BANK BICYCLE TRAILS-THE GATHERING PLACE-TULSA, OK-EP29
On our way to Texas, we stopped in Tulsa, OK. To our surprise there were a number of gems we came across.
We have a short segment on a charming nonprofit theater, screening independent & art films in a 1928 cinema with an art gallery. It is called the Circle Cinema in Tulsa, and that provided us a great thing to do on a few rainy nights!
In our travels, we have discovered our preferred bike riding is along paved trails that run along rivers that intersect a city. Plenty of places have had them. This type of trail tends to be predominantly flat, and have amazing assortments of scenery along the way. Our #1 trail will always most likely be the Mickelson Trail in South Dakota that we went on twice. It went down hill for 18 of 24 miles, and then we were picked up and driven back to our van.
But this trail is now our #2 favorite, along our travels. Our video does not do it justice. Having most of the trail divided up between lanes for bikes and lanes for walkers was fantastic. The fact that the Arkansas River needed a permanent, uninhabited, flood plain “buffer area” on the west and east banks allowed for all sorts of common use, parks and recreation areas that could flood and come back to life again later.
Along the banks was a privately funded $435 million dollar rec area called the Gathering Place. It was Fantastic!!! It was so good, we will have a separate video just for it.

Solo Fire Dance at River Parks, Tulsa, Oklahoma
Tulsa has a community of fire dancers who come to the river's edge (the Arkansas River) several times a week to practice their art. It is magical!
Places to see in ( Tulsa - USA )
Places to see in ( Tulsa - USA )
Tulsa is a city on the Arkansas River, in the U.S. state of Oklahoma. It’s known for its art deco architecture, mostly in the central Deco District. Landmarks like the Philcade and Philtower buildings reflect a 20th-century construction boom fueled by the prosperous local oil industry. The Philbrook Museum of Art is housed in an Italianate villa that was once the home of a local oil magnate.
Tulsa lies in northeastern Oklahoma, within the state's Green Country, and at the convergence of the Great Plains and the Ozark Plateau. The wide and shallow Arkansas River runs through the metro, and numerous lakes, reservoirs, smaller rivers, and wooded hills enliven the landscape.
Winters are cool to mild. Being exposed to plains winds, arctic freezing is not unknown, but it does not last long. There is not much snow, just a few inches each year, typically, but ice storms are more of a concern. The months April through June are stormy, and, Tulsa being in Tornado Alley, twisters will make an appearance - though they tend to appear in the flatter countryside. Summers are hot. It will often be above 90 degrees from May through September. Fall is the best time of year: mild temperatures, a nice breeze (all of Oklahoma is breezy), and changing tree colors. Tulsa has over 225 days of sunshine annually. In all, the city receives an average of 40 inches of precipitation each year, which helps keep Tulsa and Green Country green.
There are more nearly a million people in the metro area. Tulsa is often paired with its neighbor Broken Arrow, itself the fourth largest city in the state, though Tulsa is clearly the big brother. Here you will find a combination of western, Midwestern, and southern charm, along with a cosmopolitan atmosphere. The people love their city and are welcoming and eager to help you find your way. You may notice that Tulsa has one of the largest concentrations of Art Deco design in the country, and other mid-century architecture, a result of having been a boom-town from the 1920s through 1950s. Oil was what made Tulsa. Wealthy barons such as Frank Phillips built stately mansions for themselves but also beautified the city along the way.
As a result the city has a skyline that, until recently, bested Oklahoma City's. Tulsa likes to think of itself as the cultural capital of the state, boasting notable museums, universities, restaurants, festivals, quirky neighborhoods, and especially music - particularly country and blues musicians. Stars from Roy Clark to Leon Russell to Garth Brooks all made their start here.

Golden Driller of Tulsa - Facts, About and History
Thanks for watching...
The Golden Driller is a 75-foot-tall (23 m), 43,500-pound (19,700 kg) statue of an oil worker, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. It is the fifth-tallest statue in the United States.
It was originally built in 1952 by the Mid-Continent Supply Company of Fort Worth for the International Petroleum Exposition. Six years later, it was temporarily erected again for the 1959 show. Due to the positive attention it attracted, the company donated the statue to the Tulsa County Fairgrounds Trust Authority which had it anatomically redesigned and permanently installed in front of the Tulsa Expo Center for the 1966 International Petroleum Exposition. The statue's right hand rests on an oil derrick which had been moved from a depleted oil field in Seminole, Oklahoma.
An inscription at the base of the statue reads: The Golden Driller, a symbol of the International Petroleum Exposition. Dedicated to the men of the petroleum industry who by their vision and daring have created from God's abundance a better life for mankind.
In 1979, the Golden Driller was adopted by the Oklahoma Legislature as the state monument.
As part of an online promotional contest sponsored by Kimberly-Clark in October 2006, the Golden Driller was named the grand prize as a top ten quirkiest destination in the United States, winning its nominator a $90,000 international vacation for two.

Tulsa county Juvenile Justice, Social Services and Riverparks Authority first amendment audit
This is an audit of the above referenced offices in the city and county of Tulsa, Oklahoma. The office of social services, emergency shelter and Riverparks did a good job of respecting my right to film. The Tulsa County Sheriff and Juvenile Justice Center did not. Two of three deputies seemed to know the law and kept their distance. The third, and original deputy to respond, did not. She was very unprofessional, obnoxious, condescending and ignorant of the law. Her name is deputy Barbara Asbill, badge number 96, of the Tulsa County Sheriff's Office. While the other deputies did not hassle me, they were complicit in that they did not intervene and correct their fellow LEO. If you feel the officers failed in their duties or failed this audit and wish to seek redress you may reach out to the following numbers:
Tulsa County Juvenile Bureau 918-596-5971
Tulsa County Sheriff's Office 918-596-5601
Lastly, pay attention to the sign on the left door. It actually says you can have your cellular device confiscated for filming the premises. Illegal anyone?
Please help keep me out here fighting for your rights.

Extreme Flooding in Tulsa, Oklahoma and Surrounding Areas
I put together this video of the extreme flooding here in the Tulsa area and wanted to share it with everyone. I was hoping to post this sooner than now, but I've been limited on time this past week and have been working on it at night.
I filmed this footage over Memorial Day weekend, between 5-24-2019 and 5-27-2019. At the time of filming, the Keystone Dam was releasing around 253,000 - 275,000 cubic feet per second (CFS) of water - resulting in catastrophic flooding downstream.
This video shows three locations here in the Tulsa area impacted by this flood event, including the River Spirit Casino Resort, RiverWalk Crossing Jenks, and the Gathering Place.
Most importantly, I want to say to everyone impacted by the recent severe weather and extreme flooding throughout Oklahoma - and surrounding states - that our thoughts and prayers are with all of you.
