Rivona Caves in South Goa Hinterlands
Rivona Caves in the village of Rivona in South Goa, 25 km South East of Margao. Natural caves that have been further carved by man to make them suitable for meditation. There is one large cave with a platform that was probably used by a preacher. On the side is a smaller, narrower cave which may have been used for deeper meditations, it was really dark and humid there. On the other side of the road is a second Rivona Cave which is smaller but better preserved. It is on the campus of Jeevottam Partagali Mutt.
This is the spiritual past of the sunshine state of Goa. Do visit it along with Pansoimol Petroglyphs.

ROW OVER HIV STUDENTS : RIVONA SCHOOL SHUTS DOWN
The deadlock between the parent teachers association (PTA) and management over granting admission to 13 HIV-positive students has forced the Rivona School run by the Pilar fathers to shut down.
The closure has now been followed by Green Goa Foundation, a local NGO, issuing notice to state education director Anil Powar, asking him to ensure that the HIV-positive students are not denied their right to education.
An official of Fatima High School in Rivona said the school has been closed temporarily in view of the deadlock between the institution's management and the PTA.
The parents are demanding that the HIV +ve students be removed from the school, which the school's management says is unreasonable and also not legal.
The school will remain shut until the matter is resolved, the representative of the management said.
The PTA of the school has threatened boycott of classes by their own children if the institution's management does not reverse the admission of the 13 HIV-positive students.
The 13 students belong to a children's home called Nitya Seva Niketan located in Rivona and were enrolled in an open school, before the nuns - who run the home - decided to admit them to a regular school this year.
Attempts made in June to admit the students to the Don Bosco-run school in Sulcorna village, located 50 km from here, also failed due to opposition from parents of students already studying there.

RIVONA SCHOOL PTA CHIEF RESIGNS
In the big developing story of the day, government authorities and Rivona's Fatima School management put their best foot forwad but with little success early Friday morning to engage with parents in a bid to resolve the impasse over the admission to 36 students from a community care home in Rivona, Quepem, 13 of whom are HIV positive.
Meetings were on at the campus of the Fatima School, Rivona, since early Friday morning with groups of parents of children, who are agitating and demanding the ejection of all the 36 students from the community care centre.
The school management, meanwhile, is adamant that the students, already admitted, stay in the school, and had shut down for two days to cool down the situation.
But there are no indications that the logjam would be sorted out soon. On the contrary the School's PTA chairman, Mr Cardozo resigned in the midst of the meetings on Friday morning.
The meetings ended little after noon with confirmed reports saying that parents of at least 13 students have already moved to withdraw their wards from the school if the students from the community care home are allowed to continue studying there.
We will keep you posted and updated with detailed information and continuing coverage of this big developing story.
RIVONA SCHOOL ROW LINGERS ON
The 13 HIV positive students are out of Fatima High School, and yet, the stalemate in the school continues with the parents and the PTA insisting that the remaining 23 students who share a home with these 13 students should also be removed.
The demand is not acceptable to the school's management and the school remained shut on Thursday also.
Meanwhile, a meeting convened at the Education Department's South Zone office in Margao on Thursday morning was attended by the school's headmaster, two nuns from the Children's Care Centre at Rivona where these kids live, Education Department officials and Goa State Children's Commission chairperson, Samira Kazi.
The meeting failed to break the logjam, even as the fate of the 23 children, aged between 7 and 14 years, hangs in balance.
Kazi told In Goa News that an amicable solution will be found in the next few days by taking everyone into confidence. She said, a meeting will be called in Rivona where local bodies, parents and all involved will be invited, and a solution found.
The parents of other children of Fatima School, Rivona, as well as the parents-teachers association (PTA) of the school allege that these 23 children too are infected and their own children will be in danger of contracting the infection.
The school management on the other hand has stood firm on its decision to admit the 23 children, who it claims are healthy.
The school management told the parents that the 13 children who are HIV positive and were similarly shunted from a school in Sulcorna in late June, have not been given admissions. Despite both schools clarifying the parents' doubts on HIV, including holding a workshop conducted by GMC doctors at Sulcorna, the parents have stuck to their stand.
The community care centre has 36 children who are seeking admissions to regular schooling this year. They underwent open schooling in the past.
Meanwhile, Children's Rights in Goa (CRG) an NGO, has said denial of admission to 13 HIV positive children to the school in Rivona would be a violation of a recent Supreme Court notice which asks the Centre and States to declare HIV positive children as a disadvantaged group under the Right to Education (RTE) Act to ensure they get education without discrimination.
It has pointed out that the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act guarantees education to all children irrespective of any illness, caste, creed and disability. Section 9 (c) ensures that the child belonging to weaker sections and the child belonging to disadvantaged groups are not discriminated against and prevented from pursuing and completing elementary education on any grounds.
Chairperson of Children's Commission, Samira Kazi, meanwhile has issued a notice to the government and the education department on the issue. Kazi said she would use all the powers vested in the commission she heads to ensure the children are not discriminated.
