Melbourne Scottish Fiddlers: Reel de Roberval / Kenneth Murphy
Not just Scottish fiddlers! Here's a performance from the recent Robbie Burns Festival at Camperdown, Victoria, Australia, where the Melbourne Scottish Fiddlers cross the Atlantic and play a set of tunes from Quebec.
Camperdown is famous for its Scottish heritage and what's believed to be the oldest statue of Burns in the world, first gifted to the town in 1883. In 2009 it was vandalised and local residents joined with supporters from across the globe to fundraise to restore the statue. The Burns festival was started as part of the fundraising, and has become an annual event.
The Melbourne Scottish Fiddlers are a group of enthusiasts who meet monthly to learn and play tunes from Scotland and the diaspora. New members are always welcome.
These French Canadian tunes were learnt by the club at the annual Quebec Fiddle Weekend music camp based near Melbourne.
