Robert Mondavi Winery - Oakville, California
Robert Mondavi Winery was founded in 1966 by Robert Mondavi (June 18, 1913 -- May 16, 2008) and his sons Michael and Tim Mondavi in the Napa Valley. It was the first major winery built in Napa Valley in the post-Prohibition era. He went on to become THE most influential innovator in California winemaking history. On December 22, 2004, Constellation Brands acquired the Mondavi winery and yet they continue to further Robert Mondavi's legacy. Robert Mondavi Signature Tour and Tasting, Oakville, Napa Valley, California, USA
The Robert Mondavi Winery was one of the first in the Napa Valley to welcome visitors for tours, events, concerts and tastings.
The tour costs $25 per person and lasts approximately 75 minutes. It provides an in-depth winery tour, which follows the path of the grape from the vineyard to the cellar to the finished wine.
Guests walk into the To Kalon Vineyard, visit the winemaking cellars (including fermentation and barrel aging) and receive a seated educational tasting of three wines with one of the wine education specialists.
On this tour, Doug Frost - who is Master Sommelier and Master of Wine at the winery - took the tour and his enthusiasm for wine shows throughout the tour!

This review is very overdue, as I did a tour at RM back in Summer 2009. Anyways, I remember the experience like it was yesterday. My group and I did the Exclusive Cellar Tasting ($55/pp), which is small private group tour which includes tasting of reserve wines in one of their private glass rooms in the cellar with a small charcuterie/cheese pairing. Reservations and payment in advance is required for this tasting/tour.
Our guide was just aces, he knew exactly what thirsty visitors from the East Coast wanted. While he gave us a lot of great background and history about the Mondavi family, vineyard and wines, he definitely made sure we had our glasses were full once we got to the tasting room - even if that meant opening an extra bottle of the good stuff. Speaking of which, the Exclusive wine tour includes several wines you ordinarily wouldn't taste in restaurants or sample on other RM tours. The cheese and cured meat was also good, but of course the wine was the star.
I think I got a little ahead of myself here, but I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the beauty of the property itself, and the extremely impressive cellar room with hundreds of fermenting barrels. The iconic arch you see on each label of Mondavi wine is the same arch you walk through to enter the property - pretty nostalgic for me at least.
All in all, I would imagine all the Robert Mondavi wine tours are stellar, but I can speak from experience that the Exclusive Cellar Tasting is well worth the money. If you can, ask for Janie as your guide. Hope to be back sometime soon!

The Most Expensive Wine in the World $ How Much & WHY!?
The story behind the most expensive wine in the world.
Wtach the Top 10 Most Expensive wines currently available for sale:
Reportedly, the most expensive bottle of wine ever sold in the world was a 6-liter flask of 1992 Screaming Eagle, sold at auction back in 2000, while the wine wasn’t even 10 years old. If you’re wondering why, we’ll get to it in a minute. First what is Screaming Eagle?
Screaming Eagle is California's original cult wine. It is produced in very small quantities 500 to 850 cases per year( 6 to 10 thousand bottles), from a small vineyard in Napa's Oakville appellation. The is made primarily from Cabernet Sauvignon-and sells upon release for upwards of $3000 a bottle. It is the most expensive wine made in the United States.
Screaming Eagle was established by owner Jean Phillips in 1986, but he was initially selling grapes to other Napa wineries and he made his first wine under the Screaming Eagle label in 1992.
So that record-breaking bottle of wine was of the first vintage, before the estate became famous, making it extremely rare.
Famous wine critic Robert Parker rated this first vintage at 99 points out of 100, starting the cult status of the wine which has since then been scored the perfect 100/100 points for 1997 and 2007 vintages.
The wine was sold at auction explaining perhaps that it sold for 500 thousand dollars (half a million, $500,000)!
