Oceanic Shoals Commonwealth Marine Reserve (CMR) 2012 pelagic baited camera surveys
A 21-day survey aboard the Australian Institute of Marine Science (AIMS) Vessel RV Solander was undertaken within the proposed Oceanic Shoals Commonwealth Marine Reserve (Timor Sea) between the 12th of September and the 6th of October 2012.
The voyage, initiated by the National Environmental Research Program Marine (NERP - Biodiversity Hub to guide the Australian Government’s marine bioregional plans, yielded valuable insights into the distribution, abundance and richness of pelagic marine species in the remote offshore waters of northwestern Australia.
The information gathered in this survey is being used to fill gaps in biodiversity knowledge and patterns of community assembly, associated physical drivers of marine biodiversity and provide a regional context to these patterns and processes.

Main Roads WA destroy hundreds of trees along scenic drive
Segment aired on Channel 7's Today Tonight on the 28th of Feb, 2017.
Main Roads Western Australia have destroyed hundreds of trees along a scenic drive near the tourist town of York (97 km east of Perth). Apparently this is part of road safety strategy for WA.
Many wonder why they didn't just drop the speed slightly and retain the beauty of the area?
This is not the only controversial tree destruction incident by Main Roads recently that beggar belief. They are currently bulldozing hectares of native bushland near Beeliar Wetland about 20 minutes from Perth to build a highly controversial trucking highway. See .
The WA Government also want to do a big residential development (possibly canals) in Point Peron. This would destroy much of the protected Rockingham Regional Park, which has enormous tourism potential? See .
It is becoming increasingly apparent that Main Roads decision makers, our Evangelical Environment Minister and the rest of Barnett’s Religious Right Conservative cabinet do not value nature and trees at all? In fact, they seem hell bent (excuse the pun) on destroying as much of it as they can? It is starting to look like a deliberate attempt to sabotage WA's tourism potential, by devaluing the environmental value and amenity of our precious places and the livability of city suburbs?
The last thing they want is for trees and nature to gain any unnecessary value or importance? That would make it harder to clear going forward.
So what are they thinking? Where do they think they are leading us with all of this unnecessary environmental destruction? Is it just a matter of taste? Do these Conservatives just prefer the look of asphalt and concrete to trees and nature? Do they fear nature? Does destroying nature and replacing it with over-engineered, highly controlled and artificial environments give them delusions of power and superiority? Bullies controlling big machines? Do they enjoy wrecking and traumatising little communities?
One thing is for sure, like Conservatives everywhere, they lack empathy for anything or anyone other than themselves and their group.
Perth Travel Guide - Australia Charming Memories
Perth Travel Guide - Australia Charming Memories
Perth is the capital city of Western Australia. Perth sprawls along a flat coastal plain, centred along the Swan River and bounded by the Darling Scarp to the east and the Indian Ocean coastline in the west. Despite its isolation and relatively small population, Perth is a surprisingly culturally diverse city. Due to the high rate of migration to Perth, slightly less than half of Perth's residents were born outside Australia. Its proximity to Southeast Asia and Africa has led to an influx of migrants from countries such as Malaysia, South Africa and Thailand, and this is reflected in the diversity of cuisine available in Perth. If you wish to experience a cosmopolitan culture without the hustle and bustle of larger cities then Perth is worth visiting.
The City has a temperate Mediterranean type climate. Summers are hot and dry whilst winters are generally wet and mild. Summer temperatures average 30°C/86°F between November and April. Maximum temperatures during the height of summer can reach and sometimes exceed the 40°C/104°F mark. Very hot days tend to have very low humidity making conditions more bearable.
The Perth metropolitan area has a fairly reliable and inexpensive public transport system operated by Transperth. Information about timetables, fares, disruptions or service alterations can be found on their website. The frequency of public transport decreases remarkably on weekends, and on weekdays in the evenings after 7 or 8pm. Always plan your journey before you travel. Travelling to the tourist attractions within Perth, Fremantle, Cottesloe, Scarborough is easy by public transport, but outside of that a car is significantly better.
The central business district of Perth is bounded by the Swan River to the south and east, with Kings Park on the western end, while the railway reserve formed a northern border. A state and federally funded project named Perth City Link sunk a section of the railway line, to allow easy pedestrian access between Northbridge and the CBD. The Perth Arena is a building in the city link area that has received several architecture awards from various institutions such as the Design Institute of Australia, the Australian Institute of Architecture, and Colorbond. St Georges Terrace is the prominent street of the area with 1.3 million m2 of office space in the CBD. Hay Street and Murray Street have most of the retail and entertainment facilities. The tallest building in the city is Central Park, which is the eighth tallest building in Australia. The CBD until 2012 was the centre of a mining-induced boom, with several commercial and residential projects being built, including Brookfield Place, a 244 m office building for Anglo-Australian mining company BHP Billiton.

,Questions Can we do more to encourage cooperative and collaborative learning among students studying online?
How can we connect students who are studying in different modes and in different locations? ,E-Learning Why e-learning?
Rising costs of education
Reduced funding for universities (particularly in Australia) Demand from students wanting to study off-campus (whether “internal” or “external” students) Benefits of elearning Attracting new “offshore” markets
Ability to develop “packaged” programs Reducing inequalities, e.g. access for the disabled, the elderly ,E-Learning Problems in e-learning:
Learning environment, itself, regarded as “glue” connecting separate educational elements.
Little thought given to specific pedagogical strategies Lack of appropriate social and collaborative activities Little support for students to build interdependent relationships
(Unintended) consequences of e-learning: Feelings of social isolation in students
Paradox: communication technologies can separate rather than connect students with one another. ,Cooperation vs Collaboration Cooperative learning:
“a protocol in which the task is, in advance, split into subtasks that the partners solve independently” (Dillenbourg and Schneider, 1995)
Collaborative learning: “where two or more subjects build synchronously and interactively a joint solution to some problem” (Dillenbourg and Schneider, 1995)

a safe climate is a human right rally, now new coal in western australia
Over 7500 signatures on a petition calling for no new coal in WA were presented to the WA government at a climate rally on December 11. ALP member for Gosnells Chris Tallentire accepted the petitions from Safe Climate representative Kamala Emanuel and Greens parliamentarian Robin Chapple also spoke in favour of strong climate action.
One particular focus was opposition to the proposed coal mine at Margaret River which was reflected in colourful signs at the rally. Luke Petersen from the Margaret River Climate Action Group also spoke at the rally.
Another highlight was the message of solidarity from Mardoowarra (lower Fitzroy River) traditional owner, Dr Anne Poelina, who gave support to the campaign and also spoke out against the proposed coal mines in the Kimberley region.
Between 100-150 people participated in the rally which called for the development of renewable energy as the alternative to new coal and gas. Nuclear power and uranium mining was rejected as unsafe and a human rights abuse against traditional owners.

Exploring Queensland's Coastal Cities
Queensland is a state of Australia, occupying the north-eastern corner of the mainland continent. It is bordered by the Northern Territory to the west, South Australia to the south-west and New South Wales to the south. To the east, Queensland is bordered by the Coral Sea and Pacific Ocean. The state is Australia's second largest by area, following Western Australia, and the country's third most populous after New South Wales and Victoria.
The area was first colonised by Indigenous Australians and Torres Strait Islanders, who arrived between 40,000 and 65,000 years ago, according to various dating methods.[2] Later, Queensland was made a British Crown Colony that was separated from New South Wales on 6 June 1859, a date now celebrated annually as Queensland Day. The area that currently forms Brisbane was originally the Moreton Bay penal colony, intended as a place for recidivist convicts who had offended while serving out their sentences in New South Wales. The state later encouraged free settlement, and today Queensland's economy is dominated by the agricultural, tourist and natural resource sectors.
The population is concentrated in the south-east corner, which includes the capital Brisbane, Logan City, Ipswich, Toowoomba, and the Gold and Sunshine Coasts. Other major regional centres include Cairns, Townsville, Mackay, Rockhampton, Bundaberg, Hervey Bay and Mount Isa. Queensland is often nicknamed the Sunshine State, since it enjoys warm weather and a sizeable portion of the state is in the tropics. The people of Queensland are colloquially known as 'Banana Benders' or 'Canetoads', the former possibly due to the large Banana plantations in the tropics, the latter a reference born of the environmental disaster occurring when the cane toad was imported to rid the sugar cane fields of cane beetle pest. This is often referred to during the 'State of Origin', an annual Rugby League competition between Queensland and fierce rivals New South Wales.
