Hurricane Maria, enormous damage in Dominica ,floods and collapsed houses in RoseauDominica[edit]
Rainfall ahead of the hurricane caused several landslides in Dominica as water levels across the island began to rise by the afternoon of September 18.[23] At 21:35 ATS that day (1:35 UTC, September 19), the core of Maria moved directly over Dominica with wind speeds of 160 mph (260 km/h), or Category 5 intensity. The extreme winds blew the roofs off many houses, including the official residence of Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit, who required rescue when his home began to flood.[24] Reports from Roseau indicate total devastation, with half the village flooded, cars stranded, and stretches of residential area flattened.[25][26] Most of the island was left without cellular, radio, or internet service. Skerrit called the devastation mind boggling and indicated immediate priority was to rescue survivors rather than assess damage.[27] As of September 19, according to an update from the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA), there have been 6 deaths on Dominica as a result of the hurricane, based on preliminary information.[21]

Pluses:
Despite not operating at full capacity as a result of the Hurricane last year, the experience was wonderful. I’ve been going there for years and the changes didn’t make me feel inconvenienced in any way. Front desk and restaurant staff were amazing.
Lovely old 16th Century Fort converted to a modern hotel. The old Fort buildings stood up to the hurricane better than the new buildings.
Minuses:
Refurbishment and repair will not be completed until at least September or October 2018, so if you stay here, be prepared for some disruption. The whole Island desperately needs the tourists to come back and help them recover.

Roseau, Dominica - Morne Bruce Scenic Overlook HD (2015)
Roseau is the capital and largest city of Dominica. With a population of 16,582. It is a small and compact urban settlement, located within the Saint George parish and surrounded by the Caribbean Sea, the Roseau River and Morne Bruce. Built on the site of the ancient Kalinago Indian village of Sairi, it is the oldest and most important urban settlement on the island of Dominica.
It is located on the west (leeward) coast of Dominica, and is a combination of modern and colonial (French Style) architecture.
Roseau is Dominica's most important port for foreign trade. Some exports include bananas, bay oil, vegetables, grapefruit, oranges, and cocoa. The service sector is also a large part of the local economy.
There is a prominent diocese called Roman Catholic Diocese of Roseau.
History Of Dominica
The Arawaks were guided to Dominica, and other islands of the Caribbean, by the South Equatorial Current from the waters of the Orinoco River. These descendants of the early Taínos were overthrown by the Kalinago tribe of the Caribs.

Discover The Nature Island of Dominica : Travel Vlog
Dominica defies the Caribbean cliché on many levels. No mass tourism, no white powdery beaches, no rum-fueled pool parties. Nicknamed ‘nature island’ for a reason, the island lures largely individualists and ecoadventurers with its Boiling Lake, Champagne Reef, rainforest-shrouded volcano, sulfurous hot springs, superb diving and the Caribbean's first long-distance hiking trail.
Mother Nature may have been especially generous with Dominica, but it also deals it the occasional hardship in the form of hurricanes and tropical storms. Most recently, in August 2015, Tropical Storm Erika wreaked major havoc from which the island is still recovering.
