Founded in 1885, Royal Selangor is the world’s foremost name in quality pewter, a brand synonymous with design and craftsmanship. In the hands of our skilled craftspeople, this versatile alloy of tin, copper and antimony is transformed into an endless variety of homeware and gifts sold in more than twenty countries around the world.
The Visitor Centre takes you back over a hundred years to the founding of Royal Selangor and its inextricable link with the history of Malaysia, to the present day as the world’s largest pewter maker and its expansion into gold and sterling silver. The Royal Selangor Visitor Centre offers free admission to all its guests.

The Royal Selangor Pewter tour - featuring the largest and most modern pewter factory in the world, reputed internationally for its high quality and craftsmanship. During the tour we had a pleasure to see the different processes, such as casting, filing, polishing, soldering, hammering and engraving. Also took photos with the largest pewter tankard - certified by the Guinness Record.
Royal Selangor Visitor Centre 10th Anniversary
Built in 2004, the Royal Selangor Visitor Centre takes you on a fascinating journey through 129 years of pewter crafting. On our guided tours, you will be exposed to the history of pewter, its close association with Kuala Lumpur's tin mining background and the Royal Selangor brand which was founded in 1885. See first hand how pewter crafting is done and try your hand at making pewter items at our workshops.

The best way to understand pewter is to work with it. At the Royal Selangor Visitor Centre, you will be given the chance to manipulate this malleable and versatile metal. Join the fun and interactive School of Hard Knocks to get well acquainted with pewter.
De-stress with a hammer while expressing your creativity! You will be guided through the process of creating a pewter dish using traditional tools such as the hammer and wooden mould.
At the end of the session at the School of Hard Knocks, you will take home:
* Your finished pewter dish
* Your personalized certificate of completion
Cost: RM 60 per person (Price exclusive of 6% GST)
Time: 30 minutes

Royal Selangor Pewter is world famous for its pewter and today our SMART class students decided to visit the Royal Selangor Visitor Centre to relive the story of how it all began in Kuala Lumpur. They even enrolled in the School of Hard Knocks to have a go at making their own pewter items. It was an afternoon of good fun!

Royal Selangor Visitor Centre is the one-stop destination to explore Malaysian history, arts and culture.
There’s something for everyone at the visitor centre. Children and science buffs will enjoy exploring the composition, unique properties and applications of pewter through engaging, hands-on exhibits. Connoisseurs of history, arts and culture will enjoy learning about the rise of Royal Selangor and tin mining through interesting artefacts and live pewter crafting demonstrations.
Those who love working with their hands can try pewtersmithing at the School of Hard Knocks or The Foundry workshops. Shutterbugs and selfie lovers will find many photo-worthy spots around the centre, one of them being the world’s largest tankard.

In April 2019, we visited the Royal Selangor in KL Malysia. The tour was free and the tour guide did great job on explaining a whole load of information. It was a great experience for both me and my 6-years-old boy!
