Founded in 2010 by artist and chief conductor Carrie Fertig, Torcher Chamber Arkestra takes the concept of hot shop (furnace glass) performance and places it within a torch arena to explode ideas of what flameworked glass is whilst exploring it's performance potential.

The Glass Makers (1940-1949)
British Instructional Films Ltd presents a Classroom Film.
Glass bottles stacked in racks. A woman carefully moves some glass bowls. Glass from this particular factory is made of sand and red lead. Man carries bucket of sand and tips it into a container. Sand is then scooped from this container into a bucket on an elevator. This is then tipped into a revolving drum which is operated by a large handle. Man collects sand as it emerges from a chute. Mixture of sand and red lead is heated in a crucible. We see the crucible being wheeled out of the furnace. A barrow full of the mixture is pushed along. Door of furnace is taken off and mixture shovelled in. Pole is inserted in red hot furnace and a blob of glass pulled out. Man rolls hot glass, dunks it in a bucket, blows down hollow end of pipe then works on the glass with tongs and clippers. He makes a spout then a handle. Finished jug is shown. A glass of water is poured from the jug.
Another craftsman makes a swan from glass. It is an ashtray and we see a smoking cigarette lying in the ashtray. A man stands on two paddles above a trough of water. Moving the paddles dips a mould into the water which he dips the glass into. He blows the glass to make a light bulb shape. Extra glass is put onto the end of the shape and it is rolled backwards and forwards. A woman is seen at a machine. She seems to be cutting the excess glass away. Woman works at a filing wheel smoothing the drinking edge of a glass. Glassware is displayed. Woman holds large bowl up to the light to inspect it.
