Craig Neill and his wife Cindy Neill head off to Kleinmond to meet up with SA Forest Adventures for a morning of white water rafting. Armed with only 2 GoPro's (a GoPro 2 and GoPro 3) they record the experience, including capsizing in the first 10 minutes at the first rapid.

Highly enjoyable and addictive and definitely worth it.

Hermanus is undoubtedly the Jewel in the crown of the Cape Whale Coast and used as a hub to visit the surrounding towns, attractions, Winelands or simply to enjoy the well know Champagne Air and its natural beauty.


Close to the very tip of Africa, just outside Cape Town, you will find the Cape Whale Coast - a place on Earth where wonders never cease. This pristine stretch of the South African coastline that runs from the coastal hamlet of Rooiels in the west to Quoin Point in the East and is flanked by mesmerising mountains and the Atlantic Ocean.

The main towns of the area are Kleinmond, Hermanus, Stanford and Gansbaai; but the Whale Coast is in fact made up of a collection of villages, farms, rivers, bays, coves and valleys - each filled with its own special magic.

This large raft transports our guests in a group down the Palmiet river in comfort and no matter the white water this is a rather safe way to enjoy rafting - In fact the bigger the water the better.

Palmiet Exploration rafting

We explored the upper section of the Palmiet -- The Sa Forest Adventures guides decided to start close to the N2 Bridge and worked down the Palmiet -- It was amazing. 2 x Waterfalls -- We encountered rapids that to our knowledge have been undocumented -- We viewed beach sections where you would have the worlds best picnics in exceptionally remote areas. Cape Leopard foot prints in the sand etc etc 12 hours on the river -- 244 bends in the river -- 22 rapids - 22.8km
