Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! If you are planning to listen a lot, you could try using a bone conduction headphone, or a standard speaker instead of an earphone.

SUMMARY
=======
SANSA Space Science, previously the Hermanus Magnetic Observatory (HMO) is South Africa's national geomagnetic research facility. The observatory is situated in the town of Hermanus in the Western Cape Province and forms part of the South African National Space Agency.
The observatory is an active participant in the International Real-time Magnetic Observatory Network, one of a large number magnetic observatories which monitor and model variations of the Earth's magnetic field. The HMO consists of four operational groups:
Space Physics
Geomagnetism
Technology
Science OutreachSince 1957 the observatory has been operating neutron monitors. Currently this is being done on behalf of the North-West University and consists of 12 Chalk River neutron counter tubes.

SANSA offers opportunities in 4 main focus areas: Earth Observation, Space Science, Space Operations and Space Engineering. These focus areas are diverse and include opportunities in remote sensing, Earth system science, geospatial programming, Antarctic research, climate change, space weather and ionospheric physics, aerospace and electronic engineering, computer science, software and systems engineering.
Real Economy Report 186 - SANSA
The South African National Space Agency, or Sansa, started operations in April last year, and so is approaching the end of its first year.
Keith Campbell reports.
Keith Campbell:
Sansa absorbed the already existing Satellite Applications Centre and the Hermanus Magnetic Observatory. The space agency now comprises four divisions, namely Space Operations, Earth Observation, Space Science and Space Engineering. Sansa CEO Dr Sandile Malinga reports on the achievements of the agency in its first year.

Watch the space: How space weather impacts the 4th industrial revolution
The SANSA (South African National Space Agency) Space weather centre in Hermanus is the only space weather facility in Africa.
SANSA staff monitor solar activities like sun flares and moving particles, which have a negative impact on communications and navigation systems on earth.
These sun charges have the potential to trip electrical power grids, interrupt GPS systems and disrupt entire communication systems.
Managing Director of SANSA Dr Lee-Anne McKinnell says,
Better forecasting of atmospheric weather patterns will be key in mitigating vulnerabilities in the next revolution.
Stable Orbit: South Africa in Space? (1)
In 2034 South Africa joins the club of space-faring nations. Now I have been placed in charge of the new station taking shape in orbit - Morningstar Station. Can I keep it together or will I run it into the ground? There's only one way to find out!
THE YEAR IS 2034. It’s been five years since the International Space Station was deorbited. Space programs the world over have faltered. Against all odds, an unprecedented “All Nations Space Coalition” is formed around a shared desire to rebuild mankind’s permanent presence in space, and rekindle the space race. Who will lead this mission? You!
STABLE ORBIT is a space station simulation game. Assume the role of station commander and build the next space station!
Features -
Master the most hostile environment - Space
A deep and challenging simulation
Build a realistic, fully functioning Space Station
Manage a number of interdependent resources, such as waste, water, food - and oxygen!

Sandile Malinga, CEO of the SANSA, addressing SGC 2011
Dr. Malinga has been appointed as CEO of the South African National Space Agency (SANSA) in early 2011. He did his first degree at the University of Swaziland and then enrolled for the two-year BSc Honours programme in Physics & Electronics at Rhodes in 1991. He went on to an MSc in 1995 and a PhD in 2001 focusing on meteor physics, with the distinction of being the first black South African to obtain a PhD in space science. In 2002, Dr Malinga joined the University of Natal and subsequently became the Dean's Assistant at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN), where he was responsible for the Science and Agriculture student academic support programmes. In 2007, he was appointed the Manager (later Managing Director) of the Hermanus Magnetic Observatory (HMO). He is a member of the South African Council for Space Affairs (SACSA), the national Committee on Space Research (COSPAR) and the Scientific Committee on Solar-Terrestrial Physics (SCOSTEP).
