Canada Undiscovered: Sable Island National Park
As part of Oasis and Infiniti’s ongoing travel adventure series Canada
Undiscovered, outdoor adventurer Sean Moffitt finally makes it to his much anticipated destination – Sable Island. Sean takes a plane to Sable Island National Park where upwards of 400 horses (and only five people!) live year round. The horses are descendants from the 1700’s and have become their own distinct breed. Now they are the purest bred horses in the world. Sean also runs into some remnants of the many ship wrecks found on the island. For more info,

Sable Island National Park Reserve is a Canadian national park reserve comprising Sable Island, 300 kilometres southeast of Halifax, Nova Scotia, and about 175 kilometres southeast of the closest point of mainland Nova Scotia in the Atlantic Ocean.Notable for its Sable Island Ponies, the island is protected under the National Parks Act, requiring permission from Parks Canada to visit. The establishment of the park reserve means that the island, and the surrounding area within 1 nautical mile, cannot be drilled for oil or natural gas.Sable Island became a National Park Reserve in June 2013, with the intention of becoming a national park once Aboriginal Canadian land claims are settled.

Sable Island Nova Scotia Canada Destruction
Something appears to have happened to part of Sable Island some time between 12/13 and 12/14. Further destruction occurs sometime between 12/14 and 12/2015. The destruction at 12/2014 appears natural, but then at 12/2015 there appears to be a large scattering of debris/rocks. Look carefully before the destruction - were there buildings? Also a lot of strange underwater structure-looking pixelations all throughout the time periods surrounding this island. This island is about 200 miles East of Oak Island.

Sable Island Vlog with One Ocean Expeditions
Visiting Canada's Sable Island is a life long dream for many. Existing as a large sand island 300km off of the coast of Nova Scotia it has changed, eroded and adapted over time to be what it is today. Home to numerous flora and fauna including lots of seabirds, the largest colony of grey seals numbering over 400,000 and is also home to over 500 wild horses. Due to it's location however it is a nearly impossible island to visit because of weather, costs and more. However it can be reachable via helicopter, plane or boat.
The island also has a storied past of many shipwrecks taking place there with roughly 300+ documented since the 1500s with the last one taking place in 2001.
Before this trip I had never even considered Sable Island being a place that I would ever be able to visit. Thanks to One Ocean Expeditions that all changed. July 2019 I sailed with them on their Fins and Fiddles tour around the Gulf of St Lawrence and to Sable Island. On our 11 day cruise we visited Cape Breton, Prince Edward Island, Percé and Bonaventure Island in Quebec, the Magdalen Islands, Anticosti Island, Gros Morne National Park, La Poile Bay, and St. Pierre et Miquelon. For me without a doubt Sable Island was my favorite stop of all. I would highly recommend that everyone should add Sable Island to their bucket list.

Sable Island, Nova Scotia - Mysterious, Magical, Mythical
It is hard to imagine anyone passing up an opportunity to visit mysterious, magical, Sable Island, Nova Scotia. It is one of the Atlantic Ocean's most notorious (and oldest) ship graveyards, and is Canada's newest National Park Reserve. It remains difficult to reach, but provides rewards to any visiting naturalist, historian, artist, or photographer. And insulaphiles everywhere.
In 2002 my partner, through a charity auction, purchased a Sable Island day-trip for me as a gift, and though it took nine years for the trip to materialise, my frenzied four-hour visit to this mythic isle now constitutes my best-ever Christmas present.
This is my photographic/video chronicle of that brief, glorious visit.
