Marsh Harbour Tour after Dorian
After our mission to Manowar, we took Grant Albury's Ferry to Marsh Harbour, through the Boat Harbour, this use to be a scenic route of beautiful vacation homes, now turned to ruble. We hitch a ride through Marsh Harbour with a lovely couple who volunteer a few months of their time to help out. Here you will see where the well known places use to be such as The Conch Inn and Marina, Moorings, SunSail and Dream yachts bases which are no longer, Dive Abacos and famous Snappas Restaurant. Then we take a drive through town to the airport. Very sad to see all the devastation.
But heart warming to see what the Samaritan's Purse is doing! They have operations all over Abacos and Grand Bahamas, a hospital in Freeport, rebuilding in the cays such as Manoware Cay, and in Marsh Harbour, hiring locals and injecting capital into the local economy. They promised to stay until the work is done, unlike many other organizations.
Please Donate to The Samaritan's Purse, it is a worth charity, 90% of all funds go directly to the humanitrian efforts.

Abaco 2019 Before & After Hurricane Dorian
*The Bahamas Need Our Help*
We are absolutely gutted & devastated by the destruction that Hurricane Dorian has left behind as he blasted the beautiful islands of the Northern Bahamas on Sept 1, 2019. The Abaco as we knew it, has been destroyed.
Footage slowly emerging from some of the islands is heart wrenching & shows total apocalyptic scenes. Our hearts are with everyone affected by this monster storm.
We spent nearly 3 months in Abaco earlier this year & loved every moment and we are so sad to know that places we visited & loved have been ripped apart.
If you can help, please join us in supporting the Bahamas, they desperately need our assistance:

We've popped into a few random stores as we've sailed through the Bahamas and let's just say they leave a lot to be desired. With almost no fresh produce and sky-high prices, it's difficult to shop. We've heard Marsh Harbour is THE place to provision so we're on a mission in search of a better selection and more affordable prices.
it's also the first time (since we've owned our boat) we've busted out our folding bikes. We've had them for a couple years now and we absolutely love them...but that said space on the boat is extremely limited. We told ourselves if we don't use the bikes we'll have to sell them when we return to FL for our last bit of service.
I hope you enjoy the hunt as much as we did. As always we've got a lot more on our site if you want to click over. See ya on the water!

Yachts and Boats destroyed by Hurricane Dorian in Manowar Car, Abacos, The Bahamas
A tour of Manowar Harbour, Abacos the Bahamas, after Hurricane Dorian devasted the area. It appears not a boat was left undamaged in some way. Sunken boats in the harbour, many boats over turned, and up on the hard, 40-50 foot catamarans turtled. A 6 ton concrete mooring along with boat, tossed up in the mangroves. A 100 ton barge along with its 44 for excavator over turned. Fred the pig washed up from Piggie Ville 10 miles away and found a new home at Manowar.
If you would like to volunteer a week of your time to help the people of Manowar, let me know, we can help put you in touch with the right people.
If you like to make a donation, our Gofundme page is still up, and we will make sure the funds are used to continue to help the people of the Bahamas.

BV17: Marsh Harbour to Hopetown
Enough with this maintenance in Marsh Harbour! It’s time to get sailing and set our hopes on Hopetown. This was one of our favorite stops in the Abacos. Many cruisers live here full-time on a ball in the harbor which gives the place a very welcoming, community feel. There are lots of quirky little shops, beautiful flower-lined roads and bike paths, great restaurants and the stunning Hopetown Lighthouse, one of the oldest manual Kerosene-lit lighthouses in the world. Lots of pictures of Hopetown for you all in a fun blog post here --
Phillip and I were incredibly fortunate to score a ball in the harbor our VERY FIRST night there (some people have waited years for one) and we enjoyed a stunning three-day stay at Hopetown. Enjoy the snorkeling in Marsh Harbour and the sporty sail over to Hopetown, and stay tuned next time for a trip to Little Harbor, a little-known hurricane hole at the south end of the Abacos where we were welcomed by friends who had just built an amazing little bungalow there. Plenty more to come! If you’re more into boat projects, we got plenty going on currently at havewindwilltravel.com with our 2018 mini re-fit -- Gotta balance all this play with all kinds of work, but we love it all. Enjoy the posts!

JOURNAL ENTRY 4/25-26/17 THE BAHAMAS
What a morning! We had PERFECT sailing conditions from Tilloo Cay over to Matt Lowe’s Cay which is right next to Marsh Harbour. Once we dropped anchor we remembered that we were still waiting for the dinghy patch to fully set before we could us the dinghy, so we made a day of scraping coconuts and milking the cream, so that we could make the most delicious curry for dinner!
After we finished eating our curry dinner we moved over to John Cash Point for the night in order to get a little better protection from the tide flowing between Matt Lowe's cay and John Cash Point. It was definitely better, but we still had to put out a stern anchor and keep a careful watch maintaining tension on both anchor rodes all night to avoid wrapping the keel. The next day we sailed around Outer Point and into the excellent protected anchorage inside Marsh Harbour. We're really excited to try out the dinghy with it's new patch and also to go ashore and see what we can find, in what looks like a great little town.
We were going to search for a couple of grocery stores that we saw on the map, but we crossed downwind of the most heavenly smell of bbq chicken and suddenly Randall’s priorities changed.
We did eventually find the grocery stores, but not until he made an absolute pig of himself and was covered in bbq sauce!
We were absolutely loving Marsh Harbour. What a great little town with a perfectly protected anchorage, and no current. We were looking forward to a calm nights rest, but we had no idea what was going to hit this peaceful little anchorage after the sun went down…stay tuned to hear how we helped save a 67 foot catamaran from drifting out to sea in the middle of the night!
