Coptic family break lent, attend Easter Mass
Coptic Christians in Egypt broke their fast after forty days of Lent on Sunday to celebrate Easter.
Anwar Abdullah and his family in Cairo joined together to share their first meal, after attending Easter Mass at the local church.
Egypt's Orthodox Christians make up more than 10 percent of the country's 85 (m) million people but they have been the target of religious intolerance in the last few years.
The women of his family said they felt a palpable improvement with regards to the treatment of Egyptian Christians, since the Muslim Brotherhood was ousted from power in 2013.
Anwar's daughter Yasmine Abdullah said she felt safer than this time last year.
Security was boosted on Sunday around churches and at Saint Mark's Cathedral in Cairo, the seat of the Coptic pope, as Pope Tawadros II led Mass.
Many Copts, who felt marginalised from the Muslim Brotherhood government, joined street protests calling for former Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi to step down from power last year.
Islamist groups claim that Egypt's Christians played a disproportionately large role in the mass protests that preceded the removal of Morsi in July.
