Drove thru a one-way tunnel to Whittier, Alaska on the Prince William Sound. We met up with some new friends who decided to drive all the way up to Alaska while we were there. Camped for free on one of the best spots in all of Alaska for a few nights. Did some salmon fishing, drove into town and spent some great time with great friends.

Life in Alaska so far: May - June 2011
I grew up in Texas and New York, but moved to Alaska after graduating from Houghton College in May, 2011. I knew I wanted to live in Alaska after graduation. I arrived in AK on the 24th of May, and have been working as an Animal Keeper/Naturalist intern at the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center in Portage, AK ever since. I got this position after applying for it before graduating from college. My schooling background is in outdoor recreation/education and biology. This is the first of many videos showing my favorite memories from my time here in Alaska so far that I've caught on video. Some of the clips are from work, others are from field trips, and still others are from recreating on my days off. They are all in chronological order starting from when I arrived in AK to present. I chose to put the videos to Sigur Ros songs, because I really like them and I think of Alaska when I hear their stuff. They make beautiful music and Alaska is a beautiful state.
Below are the locations of filming, in order of appearance in the video:

Video Dominion - Historic Anchorage Hotel Building, Downtown Anchorage Alaska
The Anchorage Hotel is a hotel located at 330 E Street in Anchorage, Alaska. The original Anchorage Hotel building was built in 1916; the current hotel building, which was constructed as an annex to the hotel, opened in 1936. C.B. Wark built the first hotel building; while the building was originally a wood frame structure, Frank Reed upgraded the building to a luxury hotel in 1917. The hotel outgrew its original building due to Anchorage's growth in the 1930s, so the Anchorage Hotel Annex was built in 1936 to house additional guests. The annex, designed by E. Ellsworth Sedille, had a Gothic design and was one of the tallest buildings in Anchorage at the time. Guests at the hotel included Warren Harding, Harold L. Ickes, Walt Disney, Wiley Post, and Will Rogers; the latter two stayed at the hotel only two days prior to their deaths in a plane crash. In addition, artist Sidney Laurence lived in the hotel for parts of the 1920s and 1930s; Laurence once exchanged a painting of Mount McKinley for a year's rent at the hotel.
In the 1950s, the hotel declined in status, and the buildings suffered from a lack of maintenance. The original hotel building was demolished in the 1960s, while the annex became the Hotel Ronald Lee; after a number of ownership changes, Bob and Carolyn Neumann rehabilitated the hotel in the late 1980s. After its renovation, the hotel regained its original name; it now operates as the Historic Anchorage Hotel.
