2011Madrid JMJ Catedral de Toledo Custodia de Arfe, The Great Monstrance of Arfe
The most important object kept in the Chapel of the Treasure is the great Monstrance of Arfe also known as La Gran Ostensoria de Toledo. Made of the finest silver, gold and bejeweled with gems, it measures nine feet tall. This monstrance is famous for being used in the annual feast of Corpus Christi of Toledo.
The sculptor and maker of this monstrance, Enrique de Arfe was originally from Flanders and Germany. Arfe labored on it from 1517--1524, on commission to Cardinal Cisneros. It is of archaic Gothic design. Initially made of silver by 16th century, Archbishop Quiroga commissioned that it be plated in gold, to match the gold plated wood of the monstrance of the altar. It is encased under bulletproof glass and heavily guarded by automatic security system within the cathedral grounds of Toledo.
In the Middle Ages, Cardinal Cisneros wanted to compete for a grander monstrance than Isabella the Catholic to show it off in the procession of the Corpus Christi of Toledo which at the time was the most important feast in the Kingdom of Castile. The monstrance took seven years to create and its cost surpassed 15 million maravedís, which Arce received, including the stipulated 2,700 reales, a bonus of 2,500 maravedís that the cathedral's chapter presented to him on Christmas of 1523, having been impressed by his work.
The monstrance has a hexagonal ground base. It rises with small columns which are exquisitely made, with adornments of gems and varied figurines of angels, saints, fleurons, small bells and clappers. The work encloses in the last section where a cross of XVI century is located. The pedestal on which it sits is Baroque style of the 18th century.
The monstrance is built with the help of 12,500 bolts which secure it, 5,600 diverse pieces and 260 figurines. 183 kilograms of pure silver and 18 kilograms of 18 karat gold were used.
The following inscription of the Monstrance of Arfe reads the following:
Don Francisco Jiménez Cardinal Cisneros, Cardinal Archbishop of Toledo, Governor of Spain and conqueror of Africa, commissioned this monstrance of the Most Holy Body of Christ to be made, which was finished during the vacant see, being worker Diego López de Ayala. Year of the Lord 1524.
In the 2011 World Youth Day, the Monstrance of Arfe was brought out of the Cathedral of Toledo into Cuatro Vientos airport, where it was used for Eucharistic Adoration presided by Pope Benedict XVI.

San Ildefonso Parish, Guiguinto, Bulacan
The Catalogo of 1591 already speaks of Guiguinto Convent, probably a temporary one as a visita of Caruya (later known as Bigaa and now Balagtas), with Saint Ildephonse, Archbishop of Toledo as its patron saint, and the prior of the former as its attending priest. According to Fray Gaston de San Agustin, OSA, during the 1600's, Guiguinto had two chapels, one was on the hills of Malis in honor of San Bernabe while the other was in Matungao, Bulacan under San Nicholas de Tolentino.

One of the things to do before arriving at the old town of Toledo is to stop across the River Tagus and enjoy an impressive view the city sited on a hill. Even from this distance, the tower of the Cathedral of Toledo is prominent, rising above the rooftops of this medieval city. The Cathedral of Toledo (Catedral Primada Toledo) is huge and its imposing size is a reflection of the historical importance of Toledo and the Cathedral as the spiritual centre of the Spanish church and the seat of the Primate of Spain. The Toledo Cathedral is one of the three 13th century High Gothic cathedrals in Spain and is considered to be the height of the Gothic style in Spain. The site on which the Cathedral was built was previously a Visigoth Cathedral in the sixth century and which had been used as a mosque. With papal permission, the Mozarabic Mass, dating back to Visigothic times, is still said here today.Construction of Toledo Cathedral begun in 1227 under the rule of Ferdinand III and work lasted for three centuries. As a result of the lengthy construction period, a mixture of architectural styles can be observed. Constructed in a pure French Gothic with flying buttresses on the exterior, it has Spanish decorative styles on the interior with Mudejar and Plateresque work. The Cathedral measures 120 m long by 60 m wide and its five naves are supported by 88 pillars and 72 vaults. There are eight chapels and just as many museums in the Cathedral. The Cathedral’s collection of paintings is also important, especially the excellent collection kept in the Sacristy. The Choir – Believed to be one of the most beautiful of all European churches. The High Altar Reredos – The Reredos depicts scenes from Christ’s life and is one of the most beautiful in SpainThe Sacristy – this entire room is an authentic art gallery with paintings from master painters like El Greco, Caravaggio, Tiziano, Van Dick, Orrente, Tristán, Goya, Morales and José Ramos. The Transparente – This Baroque altar piece made of marble, jasper and bronze is a contrast to the Gothic architecture. To thoroughly explore this amazing Cathedral, one needs a few hours which we did not have time to do on our quick Toledo tour. This is one more reason to come back to Toledo.

Places to see in ( Castile La Mancha - Spain ) Toledo Museo de Santa Cruz
Places to see in ( Castile La Mancha - Spain ) Toledo Museo de Santa Cruz
The Museum of Santa Cruz is a building of the 16th century of the city of Toledo, Spain, which originally was an important hospital, although it was converted into a museum in the 19th century.
The hospital was founded by Cardinal Mendoza at the end of the 15th century to centralize assistance to orphaned and abandoned children in the city. It has a remarkable Plateresque portal, work of Alonso de Covarrubias. The building has a Greek cross plant and four courtyards, two of which were completely completed. The first is of Covarrubias and gives access to the upper floor through a three-ladder staircase.
The museum has two floors. The cruiser covers the two floors and is covered with ribbed vaults. In the north arm was located the chapel. The museum has sections of Archeology, Fine Arts and Decorative Arts. The Fine Arts funds are distributed on the first and second floor of the building, and those of archeology, in the Noble Cloister and in an underground floor. The Decorative Arts have a sample of Toledan folk handicrafts, which is also located on the floor of the basement.
It was conceived with six cradles that intersect forming four courtyards for ventilation and for that high windows are used. It is still unfinished (not two courtyards were made, as they were conceived) and was devised as an exempt building. The altar is located in the center and the courtyards are devised seven of which are made four and those four, only one was finalized by Alonso de Covarrubias.
There are four large cradles, which connect with the courtyards, on two floors made by Enrique Egas and in the center is the table with the altar. The arches are carpaneles and on pillars with litter and cherubim in the coat of arms of Mendoza.
In general there is a symbiosis of the Moorish tradition with Flemish art. Cover of pair and knuckle in framed wood of casetones. The wood has decorative and utilitarian function. The ashlars are well carved and the portal was made by Covarrubias, made it entintelada, the entablature flanked by pseudocolumns paired and with niches and doseletes; and decoration Grotesque in the fustes.
The pediment is round classic that houses the discovery of the Lignum crucis by Saint Elena. It supports the entablature with another body. An archivolt was broken to place a niche representing charity. At the top are the Virgin's wedding dresses with dolphins.

Places to see in ( Getafe - Spain )
Getafe is a city in the south of the Madrid metropolitan area, Spain, and one of the most populated and industrialised cities in the area. Getafe is home to one of the oldest Spanish military air bases and the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid. Within the city of Getafe is the Cerro de los Ángeles, or Hill of the Angels, a site considered the geographical center of the Iberian Peninsula. Getafe is located 13 km south of Madrid's city centre, within a flat area of Spain's Meseta Central in the Manzanares River basin.
The coat of arms of Getafe is divided vertically into two equal halves that represent the two most important characteristics of the municipal district. The left half contains a heart in the center of a Latin cross, representing the Sacred Heart of Jesus—a reference to the Cerro de los Ángeles. The right half contains a repeated pattern of airplanes representing the aeronautical tradition of the area and referencing the nearby Air Force Base. The Royal Spanish Crown tops the coat of arms, and symbolizes Getafe's loyalty to the Spanish monarchy.
Getafe's economy was historically agricultural. The first factories were built in the area at the beginning of the 20th century, but it wasn't until the second half of the century that industry gained prominence. By the 1960s, industry had become the primary economic focus.
Today, the economy is mostly industrial, with a large focus on Getafe's five industrial parks. After Madrid, Getafe is the most industrialized city in the community of Madrid, with numerous industries such as John Deere, Siemens, and Construcciones Aeronáuticas SA. The city boasts five industrial parks spread across the peripheries of the city.
Getafe has a number of monuments and areas of interest pertaining to its history. The most famous and most visited part of Getafe is the Cerro de los Ángeles, but there are other important places, such as the Catedral de Nuestra Señora de La Magdalena and the Hospitalillo de San José.
Cerro de los Ángeles (Hill of the Angels) is a famous hill located near the industrial parks of Getafe. The hills are considered the geographic center of the Iberian Peninsula. The hermitage of Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles (Our Lady of the Angels) and the monument to the Sagrado Corazón (sacred heart) are located at the summit. The hill is visible from almost all parts of Getafe.
Catedral de Nuestra Señora de La Magdalena, the diocesan seat of the southern zone of the community of Madrid. This Renaissance church dating from the 18th century boasts a tower in the mudéjar style and a Baroque altarpiece. Declared an artistic historical monument in 1958, the cathedral is the seat of the Diocese of Getafe.
Hospitalillo de San José. It is an ancient hospital constructed in 1529 to improve the health of local inhabitants, the Hospitalillo showcases a very Castilian style of architecture with a central patio and chapel.
Colegio de Escuelas Pías. Constructed in 1609, the Colegio is the most important religious school in the southern zone of the community of Madrid. This much-visited location can be found in the center of the city. The grounds include a small sports center and a lush park.
Biblioteca Ricardo de la Vega. Built as a prison in 1617, the building was converted to a library in the middle of the 20th century. The building was constructed in a simple style with rectangular floors.
Iglesia de los Santos Justo y Pastor, Dating from the 16th century, the church is located in the Perales del Río neighborhood. The church was reconstructed and restored in 2004.
Universidad Carlos III de Madrid. The dean's office and three faculties of the University are located in Getafe. Some of these faculties are currently located in buildings with served as military barracks in the beginning of the 20th century.
