Sannihit Sarovar Thanesar Kurukshetra
Asia's biggest sarovar - braham sarovar kurukshetra
Brahma Sarovar is an ancient water pool sacred to Hinduism in Thanesar, in the state of Haryana in North India. Hinduism lays emphasis on taking bath for internal and external purity.
KURUKSHETRA | INCREDIBLE | PEHOWA | ANCIENT HISTORICAL AND RELIGIOUS PLACE
The Sannihit Sarovar, located in Thanesar in the district of Kurukshetra in Haryana, is a water reservoir that is deemed holy among Hindu devotees. Legend has it that the sarovar holds sacred waters as it is the confluence of seven sacred Sarasvatis or mythical rivers. Bathing in these holy waters gives peace to wandering souls. The sarovar is also surrounded by numerous shrines for revered deities. Hindu devotees from all over India and abroad flock to this holy site to perform the Hindu ritual for the dearly departed and spirits of ancestors known as Pind Daan. The Bhagwad Gita was born in Kurukshetra, making it one of the most significant religious and cultural landmarks in the Hindu religion.
Located two kilometers to the west of the Kurukshetra Railway Station, the Sannihit Sarovar holy pond measures 1,500 by 450 feet. The name Sannihit is related to the belief that the holy water in the tank is home to Lord Vishnu. The ghats or platforms and steps leading to the water are made of marble and red stone. The sacred place is a popular spot for the performance of the Hindu ritual for the dearly departed known as Pind Daan. Hindu devotees from all over arrive to perform the Hindu homage to the souls of deceased relatives and spirits of ancestors.
Pind Daan uses pind as symbolic offering for the souls so that they can be freed from mukti or the cycle of life, death, and rebirth. The ritual ultimately aims to bestow peace on souls who are on the journey toward the Divine Creator. Pind is a rounded ball made of rice flour, wheat flour, oat flour, dried milk, honey, and sesame seeds. Brahmin pandits use seven pinds as offering, with one specifically offered to the soul of the deceased relative. The rest of the rice balls are offered to the spirits of ancestors.

Sheikh Chehli ka makbara (tomb): This monument is maintained by the Archeological Survey of India. It was built during the Mughal era in remembrance of Sufi Saint Sheikh Chehli, believed to be the spiritual teacher of Mughal Prince Dara Shikoh. However, this is an erroneous belief, since the Prince's main 'Murshid' or 'Sheikh' (Spiritual Guide) is historically known to have been Hazrat Sheikh Mian Mir Sahib, of Lahore,[4] although Sheikh Chehli might have been an additional/minor guide. There is another theory that the site of the supposed 'makbara' or tomb was one of the meditative 'Chillas' or sites of Hazrat Mian Mir Sahib, who might have visited the area during his wanderings.[5] It is possible that a later caretaker, some disciple of the Hazrat/Sheikh lies buried here, at the place sanctified by his 'Chilla'.

Shri Sarveshwar Mahadev temple within Brahma Sarovar, Kurukshetra
Brahma Sarovar is one of the holiest water tanks in all of Kurukshetra. Located in the in Thanesar area, this is the place where Lord Brahma conceived the earth planet. It is also said that Lord Brahma created the entire universe from the land of Kurukshetra, after performing a large yajna. Thus, Brahma Sarovar is considered to be the cradle of civilisation. The Sarovar itself is understood to represent the naval of Lord Brahma.
The Sarovar itself is 3,600 x 1,500 feet in size. Taking bath here in the sacred waters will result in the same pious credits as performing 'Ashvamedha Yajna'. Pilgrims flock here in especially large numbers to bathe on days of solar eclipse. Krsna, Balarama, and Subhadra came here to bathe during a solar eclipse, and the Kauravas and Pandavas also came here to take holy bath.
Brahma Sarovar is also the dhama of Lord Mahadev. There is a small lotus-shaped temple built within the lake, which is linked to outer sides by a small bridge. Sarveshwar Mahadev temple faces the entrance to the Sarovar. In the middle of the tank are various islands housing other temples and important shrines. Arched enclosures along the way provide shade and protection for pilgrims, and for the sadhus who congregate here to perform austerities and meditate.
During several weeks in the summer, some 500,000 people per day come to Brahma Sarovar. During winter, migratory birds from far off places also visit this holy tank. In late November, early December, deepa daan (floating lamps on the water) and aarti ceremonies are conducted here on Gita Jayanti, with great devotional fervor.

Bhishma Pitamah temple and Kund in Haryana
Narkatari Temple at Kurukshetra in Haryana is believed to be the spot where Bhishma lay down on a bed of arrows after he was defeated by Arjuna in the battle of Kurukshetra in the Mahabharata. There is a holy tank or Kund known as Bhishma kund and a small temple here. It is in Thanesar on the Kurukshetra-Pehowa road.
Bhishma Narkatari Temple and pond are of great significance as Arjuna brought Ganga as a spring from the ground here using his arrows to quench the thirst of Bhishma.
It is at the same spot that Bhishma gave a lot of advice to Yudhishtira and the other Pandavas regarding worldly conduct and how to rule a kingdom.
It is at the same spot that Bhishma finally died as he had got the boon that he will only die when he wished to die.
