In this video the travel turtles visit Montserrat in Catelonia Spain, near Barcelona. This is a beautiful mountain steeped in history and religion. We visit the monastery Santa Maria de Montserrat Abbey which has stood atop the mountain since the 11th Century. We also take a ride on the Funicular de Sant Joan funicular railway which takes us to the top of the mountain to enjoy the views. Remains of hovels still exist where monks once lived.

Sant Joan Funicular Montserrat(Barcelona,Spain)
The Sant Joan Funicular is a funicular that you can take once you have arrived at the Montserrat Monastery. It can often be confusing as there are actually a total of three mountain trains in Montserrat - two funiculars and one rack railway.
The Cremallera is name given to the rack railway service that will take you from the bottom of Montserrat Mountain to arrive at the Montserrat Monastery (for further details, see our Montserrat Rack Railway page). Once you have arrived at Montserrat Monastery, you have the option of taking two more funicular journeys: the Funicular de Santa Cova (for details see our Funicular de Santa Cova page) and the Funicular de Sant Joan.

Our original plans (following 1hour hiking trail) have fallen through, because we chose another sign.
Thanks to we didn't stop following wrong one, finally we could reach to the top of the Montserrat.
This video was taken when we were going down.
When I film this video, there was a cute little chubby curly hair girl next to me. She was sooooo cute with curly hair like an animation character. I was dying to film her, but of course I didn't.????
Somehow her lovely hair interrupted my camera sometimes luckily???????? I don't know her at all, but pretty sure she is from the cutest planet which is not on the Earth. ????????

Whilst in Spain for my summer holiday I couldn't help but get the camera out for the Funicular De Saint Joan railway on Montserrat Mountain. I would like to record more next year. I also saw a couple of Aerial waterbombers used for firefighting whilst on the beach. Think of this as your YouTube Postcard!

Montserrat is a beautiful place near Barcelona in the mountains. Sant Joan Funicular experience was out of this world.
Cable Car Trip to Montserrat, Spain
The monastery is 48 kilometres west of Barcelona, and can be reached by road, train or cable car. The abbey's train station, operated by FGC, is the terminus of a rack railway connecting with Monistrol, and two funicular railways, one connecting with Santa Cova (a shrine and chapel lower down the mountain) and the other connecting with the upper slopes of the mountain. At 1,236 metres above the valley floor, Montserrat is the highest point of the Catalan lowlands, and stands central to the most populated part of Catalonia. Montserrat's highest point, Sant Jeroni, can be reached by a footpath from the top station of the funicular Sant Jeroni. From Sant Jeroni, almost all of Catalonia can be seen, and on a clear day the island of Mallorca is visible.
Montserrat, whose name means serrated mountain, is ideally located to play an important role in the cultural and spiritual life of Catalonia. It is Catalonia's most important religious retreat and groups of young people from Barcelona and all over Catalonia make overnight hikes at least once in their lives to watch the sunrise from the heights of Montserrat. Virgin of Montserrat (the black virgin), is Catalonia's favourite saint, and is located in the sanctuary of the Mare de Déu de Montserrat, next to the Benedictine monastery nestling in the towers and crags of the mountain. The Escolania, Montserrat's Boys' Choir, is one of the oldest in Europe, and performs during religious ceremonies and communal prayers in the basilica.
The Basilica houses a museum with works of art by many prominent painters and sculptors including works by El Greco, Dalí, Picasso and more. The Publicacions de l'Abadia de Montserrat, a publishing house, one of the oldest presses in the world still running,its first book published in 1499.
