San Francisco, or San Pancho as it is more commonly referred to, is a quaint Mexican village nestled between the verdant Sierra Madre Mountains and jungle and a long stretch of pristine Pacific coast. Copala, formerly known as San José de Copala, is a four-century-old silver-mining town in the Mexican state of Sinaloa. The town is in the municipality of Concordia.
The area was occupied and ruled by the indigenous peoples until 1564, when Francisco de Ibarra crossed the Sierra Madre Occidental from Durango and conquered the area for Spain. In 1565 prospectors discovered silver veins and the town of Copala was founded to serve the mines. The town was named after a mythical city of gold for which de Ibarra had unsuccessfully searched in northern Mexico.
The town of Copala was destroyed in 1616 by an uprising of Tepehuan Indians, but was rebuilt after the rebellion was quelled the following year.

Loreto, Baja California Sur, Mexico; Loreto nacio entre los riscos de “La Sierra de la Giganta” y “El acuario del mundo”, el Golfo de California, Loreto tiene una población de aproximadamente 11,000 habitantes y Loreto esta ubicado al norte de la Ciudad de La Paz a 380 km aproximadamente, Loreto en la actualidad es un hermoso y mágico destino turístico, en loreto se practica la pesca deportiva, kayak, senderismo, etc. el turismo ha detonado en Loreto, la economía de la región al grado de pasar en pocos años de ser un pueblo pequeño en Baja California Sur a ser una ciudad con importantes desarrollos inmobiliarios.
Loreto se remonta hasta los años 1680´s donde diferentes misioneros españoles arribaron a la península de Baja California en México, para realizar una expedición misionera, donde a su paso se encontrarían con diferentes grupos humanos diferenciados por su lengua, costumbres y consanguinidad, desde Cabo San Lucas a La Paz los Pericú, de La Paz hasta Loreto, los Guaycura y más al norte los Cochimí.
En Loreto, a los Guaycuras se les describió como de mediana estatura, bien proporcionados y robustos, de piel un poco más morena que los pericues, uno de los Padres que interactuó con ellos por primera vez en 1683, fue el padre misionero Eusebio Francisco Kino y los describe como “entusiastas y amigables, de buena estatura, fuertes y saludables, contentos, sonrientes y joviales”, quienes solo se dedicaban a la caza y a la recolecta a un área no mayor de 30 millas de su comunidad, asi era la gente que habitaba Loreto.
Uno de los misioneros más destacados fue el Padre Juan María de Salvatierra, quien fundo la primera Misión en Loreto en octubre de 1697, la madre y cabeza de las misiones de la alta y de la baja California denominada “Nuestra Señora de Loreto Conchó” y es la primera dentro de la ruta de las misiones denominada “Camino Real” a lo largo de la península de Baja California. Hoy en dia, en Loreto se encuentra el Museo de las misiones Jesuitas a un costado de “Nuestra Señora de Loreto Conchó” donde podemos aprender más acerca de estas misiones.

A Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary is opened in the Sierra Madre Mountains of Mexico
In animal welfare news, a Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary is opened in the Sierra Madre Mountains of Mexico. Located in the states of Michoacán and Mexico, the protected area is the last stop on the annual migration route of the magnificent insects. The butterflies embark on the up to 4,000-kilometer trip from southern Canada and northern and central USA to avoid the winter cold. In spring, the females undertake the journey back to the USA and Canada. Officials stated that the sanctuary is set up to give the public an opportunity to appreciate the beauty of the exquisite butterflies, which arrive in millions each year.
Our gratefulness, Mexican government, for creating this spectacular haven. May these winged angels continue their extraordinary flights in safety and joy for eons to come.
