Santichon Village (pop 2000) is approx 4.5km from Pai township a mixture of yunanese, hill tribes people and former chinese nationalists soldiers who escaped from chinese communist rule and settled in Thailand. The village showcases yunanese culture and has all sorts of chinese - yunnanese dishes available at one of the restaurants or food stalls in the village. (April 2014).

I feel that Pai is a really nice place to retire in.
The district is surrounded by mountains and residents get to enjoy cool temperatures from night to morning and won't miss the sun in the afternoon. During my time there the lowest was at about 9 degree celsius.
Food wise, local restaurants taste delicious but slightly heavier to my liking probably due to the local's past culture of working in fields. The night market was interesting and its merchandise is almost to the scale of those in Chiang Mai.
Do note that the journey from Chiang Mai to Pai could be a challenge for some as it takes 3 to 4 hours through mountainous roads and 762 corners. However, there are many rest stops along the way.
My family stayed at Pai River Corner Resort, visited Santichon Village and Coffee In Love cafe.
我觉得拜县真的是一个好退休的地方。拜县的周围环绕着山脉所以那里的居民可以享受夜晚至清晨较冷的温度，在白天也不会错过温暖的太阳。
对吃的来说，我觉得当地小吃好吃但是比较重口味一点。当地夜市也很有趣，有卖各式各样的物品以及当地受欢迎的美食，不输给清迈。
请您注意，从清迈去拜县的路程对有些人可能比较有挑战性。车程需要大约3到4个小时而且是行驶在很多弯角的山路上，半路中有休息站。据说那里的弯角有762个。
当时我的家庭是住在Pai River Corner Resort，去了南湖山地村和恋爱咖啡馆。

This small town set approximately midway between Mae Hong Son and Chiang Mai. Pai is a dream destination for many travellers. Located deep in a valley, surrounded by walls of endless mountains, Pai seems to exist in its own time zone. Here, nature is your best friend and, perhaps, chilling out while doing close to nothing is going to be your second best friend.
Pai has three happening main streets, with the scenic Pai River cutting through the eastern part of town. Bamboo rafting and white-river rafting, popular among adventurous souls, are two of the best ways to appreciate Pai’s picturesque landscape. If you prefer to stay on dry land, hiking or mountain trekking is another fascinating option, apart from browsing a collection of souvenir shops in the town centre. Exploring outer Pai, peppered with natural hot springs, waterfalls and ethnic hill-tribe villages, is also something to consider.
For many people, coming to Pai simply means slowing down completely. Artist types often hangout at Pai’s many café galleries, while others prefer to lounge away on their riverside porch or at a chilled-out bar.

Chiang Mai - Pai - Chinese Village, also known as Santichon Village.
Travel from Chiang Mai to Pai - caution - 762 curves. You can rent a bike/car, by minibus or local bus. whatever mode of transport, you will feel sick by the time 762 curves are done! Nevertheless worth it!!
This is not a typical Chinatown that we usually see but one of those Chinese villages situated in the Northern Thailand with Yunnan tribes.
Visit this place while the sun sets,(between 4pm-6pm), you get to see both views dawn to dusk. If interested in shopping, visit a bit early as the shops starts closing by 5.30pm or much before.

Pai is a town in the Mae Hong Soon Province of northern Thailand. It sits in a valley on the banks of the Pai River. It's known for its nearby gorges, hot springs like the Tha Pai Hot Spring and waterfalls like Mo Paeng Waterfall.
Downtown, food stalls and handicraft shops line Pai Walking Street. West of town lies Baan Santichon, a traditional Chinese village with clay houses and eateries serving Yunnan cuisine.

Shandicun: The Yunnan Chinese Village in Pai
Shandicun is the name given to a well-known Chinese village located 4.5 kilometers from Pai. The village is famous for horse riding, wellness, shooting games, Chinese souvenirs & of course, Tea.
You need to spend at least half day to enjoy the activities and Chinese cuisine.
This footage was shot early morning in the middle of the rainy season so unfortunately things were a little overgrown and quiet. In the high season however, the lawns are mowed & the place becomes a hive of activity.

Visit clay houses, eat pork hocks, and experience Yunnan culture
Yunnan Cultural Village provides the way of life and Chinese clay houses. Tourists can taste the green tea and pork hocks with buns at Baan Santichon surrounded by the mountains of Pai.
Pai is beautiful because of the mountain scenery, Pai River, the way of life, and mixed cultures from various tribes. About five kilometers from Pai, there is a village called Santichon or the Yunnan Cutural Village where Yunan tribesmen have moved to live. This village is one of the most popular attractions of Pai.
At the Yunnan cultural field, you can see a huge rock and a dragon creeping up a pole at the center of the field. Around the field, there are many souvenir shops, Yunnan Chinese restaurants, and clay houses. Tourists can try original Yunnan Chinese food and experience the Yunnan way of life.
Recommended Food
At Santichon village, you have to try authentic Yunnan Chinese food such as pork hocks, buns, steamed black chicken with Chinese herbs, fried shiitake mushroom, and Yunnan girl's salad. These dishes come with boiled rice. For people who want to go back and have a meal in Pai, we recommend Baan Benjarong and Nong Best two restaurants that serve delicious food. At Baan Benjarong restaurant, a favorite is fried shrimp with tamarind sauce. Local food is provided at Nong Best restaurant such as Siam redtail catfish, tom yum and triple crisp & spicy salad.
