Savannah (/səˈvænə/) is the oldest city in the U.S. state of Georgia and is the county seat of Chatham County. Established in 1733 on the Savannah River, the city of Savannah became the British colonial capital of the Province of Georgia and later the first state capital of Georgia.[4] A strategic port city in the American Revolution and during the American Civil War,[5] Savannah is today an industrial center and an important Atlantic seaport. It is Georgia's fifth-largest city and third-largest metropolitan area.

Places to see in ( Savannah - USA )
Savannah, a coastal Georgia city, is separated from South Carolina by the Savannah River. It’s known for manicured parks, horse-drawn carriages and antebellum architecture. Its historic district is filled with cobblestoned squares and parks such as Forsyth Park shaded by oak trees covered with Spanish moss. At the center of this picturesque district is the landmark, Gothic-Revival Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist.
Each year Savannah attracts millions of visitors to its cobblestone streets, parks, and notable historic buildings: the birthplace of Juliette Gordon Low (founder of the Girl Scouts of the USA), the Georgia Historical Society (the oldest continually operating historical society in the South), the Telfair Academy of Arts and Sciences (one of the South's first public museums), the First African Baptist Church (one of the oldest African-American Baptist congregations in the United States), Temple Mickve Israel (the third oldest synagogue in America), and the Central of Georgia Railway roundhouse complex (the oldest standing antebellum rail facility in America).
Savannah's downtown area, which includes the Savannah Historic District, the Savannah Victorian Historic District, and 22 parklike squares, is one of the largest National Historic Landmark Districts in the United States (designated by the U.S. government in 1966). Downtown Savannah largely retains the original town plan prescribed by founder James Oglethorpe (a design now known as the Oglethorpe Plan). Savannah was the host city for the sailing competitions during the 1996 Summer Olympics held in Atlanta.
Savannah is known as the 'Hostess City of the South' – and a good hostess will stuff you to the gills with all things battered and fried before sending you on your merry way. This is a city where people come to indulge in decadent, traditional Southern and soul food, but top chefs are also reimagining things with a 'New South' cuisine, where classic themes and ingredients meet innovative preparations. With Savannah's proximity to the ocean, seafood features heavily on most menus, and good grub doesn't stop at Southern staples – fans of diverse international fare can find great options, too.
Dubbed the Creative Coast (with a local entrepreneurial organization of the same name), Savannah boasts a vibrant arts and design scene that's fueled not only by the Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD), one of the finest art schools in the country with students and faculty from far and wide; but also bolstered by the natives and transplants whose initiatives make the arts more inclusive and accessible. From superb museums and galleries in the Historic District to the Starland section between Midtown and the Victorian District catering to locally crafted pursuits, creativity is the lifeblood coursing through Savannah's artsy heart.

SCAD Museum of Art (Savannah College of Art and Design)
From scadmoa.org:
This landmark rehabilitation project, the largest in SCAD history, advances the university's award-winning legacy of adaptive reuse and urban revitalization. The $26 million expansion will add 65,000 square feet to the museum's existing facility and features many notable design elements, including a prominent new entrance marked by an 86-foot tall steel and glass lantern; a contradistinctive facade uniting original 19th-century Savannah gray brick with modern composite materials; a manicured courtyard and streetscape; outdoor lecture and performance spaces; and an events terrace and adjoining atrium. Inside, the expansion grants an increase in overall space to more than 82,000 square feet total, enabling the museum to present engaging exhibitions and installations from renowned and emerging artists, as well as showcase works from the university's diverse permanent collection. Much of the museum's expansion and redesign has focused on art stewardship, as evidenced by dedicated areas for shipment, quarantine, framing and de-framing, curatorial supply storage and art conservation.

On February 12, 1733, General James Oglethorpe and settlers from the ship Anne landed at Yamacraw Bluff and were greeted by Tomochichi, the Yamacraws, and Indian traders John and Mary Musgrove. Mary Musgrove often served as an interpreter. The city of Savannah was founded on that date, along with the colony of Georgia. In 1751, Savannah and the rest of Georgia became a Royal Colony and Savannah was made the colonial capital of Georgia.
By the outbreak of the American Revolutionary War, Savannah had become the southernmost commercial port in the Thirteen Colonies. British troops took the city in 1778, and the following year a combined force of American and French soldiers, including Haitians, failed to rout the British at the Siege of Savannah. The British did not leave the city until July 1782. In December 1804 the state legislature declared Milledgeville the new capital of Georgia.
Savannah, a prosperous seaport throughout the nineteenth century, was the Confederacy's sixth most populous city and the prime objective of General William T. Sherman's March to the Sea. Early on December 21, 1864, local authorities negotiated a peaceful surrender to save Savannah from destruction, and Union troops marched into the city at dawn.
Savannah was named for the Savannah River, which probably derives from variant names of the river used by Native American.
Savannah's historic district has 22 squares (Ellis Square, demolished in 1954, was fully restored in early 2010). The squares vary in size and character, from the formal fountain and monuments of the largest, Johnson, to the playgrounds of the smallest, Crawford. Franklin Square is the site of Savannah's Haitian Monument, which commemorates the heroic efforts of the Chasseurs-Volontaires de Saint-Domingue in the 1779 Siege of Savannah and for an independent America. One of the few black regiments to fight for the American side in the Revolutionary War, the soldiers were recruited from present-day Haiti, until 1804 the French colony of Saint-Domingue.
Among the historic homes that have been preserved are: the Olde Pink House, the Sorrel–Weed House, Juliette Gordon Low's birthplace, the Davenport House Museum, the Green–Meldrim House, the Owens–Thomas House, the William Scarbrough House, and the Wormsloe plantation of Noble Jones. The Mercer–Williams House, the former home of Jim Williams, is the main location of Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil.

BY THE HORNS - Animated Short Film
“By the Horns” is my 2015 undergraduate thesis from The Savannah College of Art & Design in Savannah, GA. The film was selected to screen in several festivals across the United States and Italy.
Bonnie, a lonely cow, falls in love with a mechanical bull through the windows of a seedy bar, and must brave the hoard of drunk rednecks to rescue the 'object' of her affection.
Video Shows Police Tasing a Bloody, Restrained Matthew Ajibade...
On January 1, 2015, Matthew Ajibade died in custody after his family called police for assistance. He was having a severe mental health crisis and his family begged police to take him to the hospital, along with his medicine.
Police in Savannah, Georgia decided to take him to jail instead.
For the past 10 months the police, the jail, and prosecutors have refused to release any videos from Ajibade's brief time in custody that would shed light on the circumstances surrounding his death. Now that several officers are on trial, a short segment of video was played for those that were present in open court.
In it, two things appear to be obvious:
1. Ajibade appears physically fit and severely delusional. He is disturbed by the colors of the chairs in the room. He just can't get past it. This is just further confirmation that he was in urgent need of medical intervention.
2. Ajibade, who died within hours of this incident, is seen being punched repeatedly and kicked in the back of the head by police. This is extremely relevant because his autopsy revealed blunt force trauma to his head and upper body. His death was ruled a homicide.
Nine officers were fired for a variety of offenses in Ajibade's death, but answers are still hard to come by.
It is now abundantly clear that Matthew Ajibade was murdered by police in Savannah, Georgia. For over 10 months, police and prosecutors have concealed the video evidence of his murder not only from the public, but from Ajibade's closest friends and family members. His death in police custody was ruled a homicide by coroners, but the whole of Savannah's government has colluded in covering up the sadistic and brutal murder of a beloved artist and photographer who was a student at Savannah College of Art and Design.
The video below is awful and is confirmation that the United States tortures and kills its prisoners on American soil. Torture is not something that happens far away in Abu Ghraib: It's happening here.
In case you can stomach the video, here's an explanation of what happens, so that you can understand it and prepare to speak out against it.
On New Year's Day 2015, Matthew Ajibade was arrested after a mental health crisis. Instead of being taken to a hospital, Ajibade, who was otherwise in perfect physical condition, was taken to jail—against his family's wishes. In a video we received last week, police are seen punching and kicking Matthew Ajibade in the face and head before restraining him.
Now, after Ajibade was stripped of his clothes and handcuffed to a restraining chair, we see the worst. The police Taser has a camera attached to it that is automatically triggered when the device is turned on.
Strapped to the chair after already being beaten and stunned with a Taser multiple times, we see a red light, the target of the Taser, continually pointed at Matthew's groin. The audio from the Taser camera is distorted, but we see little to no movement from Ajibade.
It gets much worse.
Soon, we see that the Taser is moving closer to his genitals. As the camera gets closer to his genitals, it is deployed. You hear the awful shock of the Taser, followed by the unforgettable screams of Matthew Ajibade. The video then ends—perhaps as the Taser is turned off, but we don't know.
What we do know is that Matthew Ajibade died in his cell, strapped to this restraining chair, soon after being Tasered here. The timestamp on the video states that it is 4:45 AM on the morning of January 2.
Police claimed they found Ajibade unresponsive in his jail cell at 1:38 AM.
Either way, the video below shows a restrained man being tortured to death in our jails.
Nobody was charged with Matthew Ajibade's murder—and we now see that officials concealed this video because they knew we'd call for such charges if we ever saw it.
