Stained Glass in Detroit
Julie Sloan, Owner and Chief Consultant
Julie L. Sloan, LLC, Consultants in Stained Glass
This presentation was given at the Scarab Club on June 4, 2015.
In the United States, the Gilded Age to the Art Deco period remains the undisputed high point of the art of stained glass. Detroit boasted windows by the country's leading designers including Louis Comfort Tiffany and John La Farge. Many of these windows had visual links to the craft on the East Coast and Europe. This talk examines those links.
Julie L. Sloan is a stained glass consultant providing condition studies, restoration specifications, project management, appraisals, and historical research.

Charles McGee: STILL SEARCHING
Bedrock in partnership with Library Street Collective is proud to support CHARLES MCGEE: STILL SEARCHING located at 1505 Woodward Avenue. The exhibition will remain on view through July 1.
STILL SEARCHING traces McGee’s 70-year-long career through an array of works that encapsulate two of the artist’s most enduring themes: chronicles of the black experience and a love of nature. The retrospective also reflects McGee’s evolution across mediums, with works ranging from charcoal drawings and photography to avant-garde three-dimensional and multimedia pieces.
Approximately one block from the site of the exhibition, the monumental outdoor mural Unity, located on the north elevation of 28Grand, Bedrock’s new 13-story, micro-loft building in Downtown Detroit. The artist states that his ambition for the mural is to reach new audiences, and that he has further plans for public installations in the future.

Edwin Starr EDM DJ Remix 2016 Compilation Album
Dr. McNichol’s said “when I had the vision of producing the Edwin Starr “I’m Scared of Losing U” DJ Remix compilation album in tribute to my dear friend Edwin Starr who introduced me to this wonderful business of entertainment, I wanted to capture some special memories and moments in time from the lean days when the hits were far and between to when the hits started coming. Edwin was on the road working at any club that wanted great entertainment for a reasonable price. There was one club that was very special to Edwin and that was Mickey Hide-A-Way in Lansing Michigan off the campus of the Michigan State University. This establishment was a restaurant by day and on Friday night and Saturday after 6:00pm it turned into the Motown Sound, the hottest place for live entertainment in Lansing Michigan. Mickey Hide-A-Way was also the club where Edwin would try out new material and one of his biggest hits 25 Miles became a club favorite two years before it was recorded on the Motown Label. The club was the brain child of than Michigan State student Mickey Shapiro from Detroit, MI now CEO of Lautrec LTD who grow up listing to the Motown greats and brought that same experience to the students at Michigan State and the Lansing community.
With the contribution of Eddie Booth, Celebrity DJ Judge Jules, producer, writer Michael Skins, and special thanks to background vocalist and Starr’s hommie from Cleveland Ohio and Angle Dove Recording Artist Ronnie Canada and the blessing of Annette Hatcher the wife of Edwin Starr who we lost this summer. It is my pleasure to share with all the old fans, DJ’s and hopefully introduce new fans to Edwin Starr’s the last recording he made before his death and never before released “I’m Scared Of Losing U”. A remix compilation album featuring new music tracks produced by the leading celebrity DJ’s from Europe and the USA contributing their brand and sound in their genres to the song “I’m Scared Of Losing U” plus new music from guest vocalist from the United States and Europe.
Joyce Dozier McNichol’s said “while working in Europe in late 1988 with “The Brothers in Christ “I had the pleasure of visiting Edwin at his home in Warwickshire England. I actually stayed the night, my husband and I. We slept in the upstairs bedroom of Einstein’s Castle and it was breath taking”.
