Violent storms, isolated tornadoes to threaten central, southern US into Friday evening
The risk of severe thunderstorms, including isolated tornadoes, will progress farther to the east and south over the central United States into Friday evening.
A weather pattern more typical of the middle of spring, rather than the middle of summer will continue the threat of severe weather on Friday.
As AccuWeather accurately predicted, severe storms and tornadoes blasted portions of Iowa, Missouri, Illinois, Kansas and Arkansas on Thursday.
A severe thunderstorm caused high waves on a lake that overturned a tour boat and killed multiple people in the Branson, Missouri, area, while devastating tornadoes tore through several communities in Iowa and caused extensive damage.
While there is a somewhat lower threat of tornadoes on Friday, there is still the potential for a few long-lived thunderstorms that can spawn tornadoes in parts of the Midwest during the late afternoon and early evening hours.
A single tornado that strikes a populated area can threaten a great deal of lives and property.
The greatest threat from the storms is likely to be from hail, straight-line wind gusts and flash flooding. The risk into Thursday evening is forecast to extend from northern Indiana and western Ohio to northeastern Arkansas, northern Mississippi, northern Alabama and northwestern Georgia.
The storms may produce hail large enough to damage crops, break windows and dent the metal on vehicles.
Smack in the middle of the severe weather risk area is much of Kentucky and Tennessee, as well as the lower portion of the Ohio Valley and the middle Mississippi Valley.
Cities at risk for potentially violent storms include the cities of Indianapolis, Evansville and Fort Wayne, Indiana; Cape Girardeau, Missouri; Cairo, Illinois; Louisville and Lexington, Kentucky; Cincinnati and Dayton, Ohio; Nashville, Memphis, Knoxville and Chattanooga, Tennessee; Tupelo, Mississippi; and Huntsville, Alabama.
Unusually chilly air for July high above the atmosphere will cause the storms to behave more like spring thunderstorms, rather than the late-day pop-up storms typical of the middle of summer.
The same weather pattern will create some wind shear that is an ingredient for tornadoes. Wind shear is the increase and change in direction of winds relative to increasing elevation in the atmosphere.
The weather pattern is also forecast to mark the beginning of an extended stretch where hot weather will be extremely limited and the potential for showers and thunderstorms to occur often enough to raise the risk of flooding over much of the eastern and part of the midwestern U.S. into early August.
A Second Day of Widespread Severe Thunderstorms Will Rake the Ohio Valley and Tennessee Valley Friday After Thursday's Iowa Tornadoes
Bondurant, Marshalltown and Pella Thursday afternoon.
Strong straight-line winds from a line of severe thunderstorms lead to a deadly capsizing of a tourist boat on Table Rock Lake, near Branson, Missouri.
Florida extreme Keosauqua Airport
Wind gusts as strong as 80 mph swept through Manhattan and Topeka, Kansas, Thursday afternoon and even brought dust to parts of eastern Kansas.

The MOST CONSERVATIVE CITIES in AMERICA
Who's NEVER voting liberal again? These places.
Conservatives in America. They want financial independence, and believe in self-reliance, self-discipline, and competition. Work hard, save money, invest and protect your self interests.
In fact, there’s a lot of Americans who are fiscally conservative, but socially liberal. To sum, conservatives want the best for their country, both long and short term. They want to keep America Merica.
Today, we’re going to talk about the cities in America with the biggest conservative populations. Now, as you may know, most of the large urban areas in the USA are very liberal. That’s just how it is. Most conservatives tend to live in the suburbs and in rural areas. Just look at this map.
In fact, big cities in the U.S. tend toward the liberal side of the political spectrum, even when they’re within conservative states. Only 4% of conservatives said they’d want to live in a large city.
In order to rank the American cities with the biggest conservative populations, we just had to look and see which cities voted conservative, or who identify as conservative in polls. To make it more relevant, we’re only measuring places with populations over 250,000. As you can imagine, there are many small towns and villages in rural America that are essentially 100% conservative.
10. Jacksonville, Florida. We begin our tour of the most conservative cities in America in one of the most contentious states of all - Florida, and in one of its largest cities, Jacksonville.
9. Anchorage, Alaska. We’re going all the way up to the cold, white north for our next most conservative city in America - Anchorage Alaska, population 300,000. Here, the conservative vote is slightly higher than in Jacksonville, by a mere fraction of a percentage.
8. Colorado Springs, Colorado. Our next stop along our R train in America stops in the only other state where republicans don’t have a stronghold from our list today. We’re stopping in Colorado, and in particular, Colorado Springs.
7. Plano, Texas. As you can imagine, we’re going to see quite a few cities in the heart of Texas on this list. We begin our list of cities in Texas in the conservative, wealthy Dallas/Fort Worth suburb. This is home to football, churches and money. It’s very middle class, white, and suburban.
6. Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. It’s time for our next most conservative city in America. We don’t have to go too far. In fact, I’m foreshadowing when I tell you we’re only leaving this general area of the country two more times.
Here in Oklahoma City, it’s about 52% conservative here. Trump took about 56% of the vote in Oklahoma County in the latest presidential election. But Bush carried 74% of the vote in 2000.
5. Mesa, Arizona. We're heading west for the last time on our list, as we mosey on down to the state of Arizona and take a pit stop in Mesa.
4. Fort Wayne, Indiana. Okay so our last stop before we head back down to the south central US for good brings us to our 4th most conservative city in America - Fort Wayne Indiana. Here in this I still care about values and keeping America great’ part of the midwest, conservatives rock the conservative vote to the tune of 57%.
3. Fort Worth, Texas. We’re going to round up our most conservative cities in America tour with three more cities all in the same general area. Our first stop is Fort Worth Texas, population 880,000.
2. Tulsa, Oklahoma. Alrighty then, who is our second most conservative city in America? That would Be Tulsa, Oklahoma. The second-largest city in Oklahoma, Tulsa was known as the oil capital of the world for most of the 20th century.
1. Arlington, Texas. Where’s our most conservative city in America? That would be Arlington, Texas. This Dallas suburb is about 61% conservative, which is super high for a large urban area.

Damaging storms to saturate Midwest into Thursday night
A storm system will continue its trek eastward, impacting the Great Lakes and Ohio Valley with severe thunderstorms through Thursday.
Rounds of heavy rain and thunderstorms pummeled the Central states on Tuesday and Wednesday, with widespread instances of flooded roads and many reports of strong winds and hail.
A couple of tornadoes spawned in western Nebraska and Minnesota as well.
The severe threat will move on to a different area of the country on Thursday.
“Storms will regain strength again on Thursday afternoon and evening across portions of the Ohio Valley and central Great Lakes,” AccuWeather Meteorologist Kyle Elliott said. “The primary hazards from the strongest storms on both days will be damaging winds, but an isolated tornado or two cannot be ruled out.”
Any storm that fires will be capable of dropping several inches of rain in a short amount of time.
Residents who live in flood-prone areas should take precautions against property damage due to flooding and avoid traversing flooded roadways.
Fort Wayne, Indiana; Detroit and Cleveland and Columbus, Ohio, will be in the line of fire on Thursday.
“The storms can cause dangerous conditions for motorists traveling on Interstates 90, 80, 70, 40, 35 and 55, as well as lead to downed trees and power lines,” warned Elliott.
Everyone should keep up-to-date on local watches and warnings and find shelter in a sturdy structure at the first sign of threatening weather. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors.
People should keep a weather radio or charged cell phone on full volume nearby with weather alerts enabled in order to be aware of local overnight warnings.
The risk of locally severe storms will extend as far south as northern Kentucky, part of West Virginia and western Pennsylvania later in the afternoon and evening on Thursday.
Elliott also pointed out that dry weather behind these storms may unfortunately be short-lived.
“Another storm system may bring a renewed threat for severe weather to the central U.S. and south-central Plains on Friday, hampering cleanup efforts and preventing streams and creeks from receding.”
The 10 Best Places To Live In Indiana (USA)
Indiana may be best known for its obsession with sports (and limestone) but what may not be in the public domain is that the Midwestern state has one of the lowest cost of living in the United States.
A dollar stretches a long way here, longer than it would in 41 states.
Anyone looking to relocate to the Hoosier State will also be happy to know home prices in Indiana are among the most affordable in the country.
As well, the state boasts a strong economy that is about the size of Norway, according to the American Enterprise Institute.
It is the 16th largest state economy in the United States and this, coupled with the sixth lowest unemployment rate in the nation, makes for very interesting reading, or living rather.
The state’s economy is mainly flanked by agriculture, manufacturing and automotive industries.
Also of notable importance is healthcare and education, not forgetting the two prestigious universities based here: Purdue and Notre Dame.
A report by the Indiana Business Review notes that in 2010, Indiana’s economy grew twice as fast as the rest of the nation, with similar results experienced in the subsequent three years.
With things going so swimmingly in this state, perhaps it didn’t come as a surprise when Money Magazine named Fishers, Indiana the No.1 best place to live in America in 2017.
If you are planning to make an in-state move or put down roots here, below, we reveal the 10 best places to live in Indiana for 2019.
1. Carmel.
2. Fishers.
3. Zionsville.
4. Munster.
5. West Lafayette.
6. Fort Wayne.
7. Westfield.
8. Dyer.
9. Columbus.
10. Indianapolis.

Tropical Storm Lane expected to strengthen to a hurricane soon
Tropical Storm Lane continues to strengthen and is expected to be a major hurricane when it crosses into the Central Pacific on Saturday, the National Hurricane Center said.
At about 11 p.m. Wednesday, Lane was located located about 1,390 miles southwest of the southern tip of Baja California, Mexico, or a distant 2,100 miles away from Hilo.
It was moving west at about 12 mph and had maximum sustained winds near 50 mph.
Lane is expected to strengthen into a hurricane Thursday and could become a major hurricane on Saturday, forecasters say.
Debby and Ernesto formed in the northern Atlantic Ocean during the first half of August.
Above-average sea-surface temperatures aided in their development so far north.
Atmosphere and ocean conditions may favor more north Atlantic storms while the tropical Atlantic stays less active.
Flooding downpours to pivot across Mississippi, Ohio and Tennessee valleys into weekend
An area of downpours with a history of flash flooding will shift eastward to end this week then settle southward this weekend over the central United States.
The batch of rain may be welcomed in some communities but may cause problems for travel and outdoor plans.
During Thursday, Thursday night and Friday, torrential downpours and a few locally gusty storms will advance eastward across the Ohio Valley and lower Great Lakes region.
Motorists should expect travel delays along Interstates 40, 64, 65, 70, 75, 77 and 80.
In most areas, significant forward speed of the storms should keep downpours brief in most areas. However, it is possible the storms may repeat in some communities. Where this happens, the risk of flooding will be greatest.
Cities that may be affected by downpours and travel delays spanning Thursday to Friday include Indianapolis, Evansville and Fort Wayne, Indiana; Cincinnati, Columbus, Cleveland, Youngstown and Toledo, Ohio; Louisville and Lexington, Kentucky; Morgantown, West Virginia; Detroit, Nashville and Pittsburgh.
During this weekend, just enough dry air is forecast to punch in to keep storms at bay over much of central and northern Illinois, Indiana and Ohio, as well as much of Michigan.
However, farther south, across the lower part of the Ohio Valley, Tennessee Valley and southern Appalachians, dry air will struggle to move in. Through at least Saturday, downpours are likely to linger, repeat and potentially cause flash flooding in these areas.
There is a chance that enough dry air mixes in on Sunday to turn off showers or at least cause them to be much more spotty with the exception of the lower Mississippi Valley and Delta.
Farther west on Sunday, a new batch of showers and thunderstorms is forecast to move eastward across the Plains and increase in intensity.
