Two of three alleged burglars, including a minor from Hattieville Village, have been charged in connection with the burglary of a house in Santa Rita Layout, Corozal District. Police say that their investigation has led them to arrest Avery Bain of Belize City and a minor for the crime, which occurred on Friday night around eight o’clock at the home of Nancy Chable. Reports are that Chable, who was not at home at the time, was alerted of the burglary in progress. She called her common-law husband and they got home to find three burglars inside. Several shots were fired from the husband’s licensed firearm. The burglars escaped with an assortment of items and cash by jumping the fence to the property. Police were called in and the investigation quickly led them to the suspects. Assistant Commissioner of Police Joseph Myvett says that the investigation is also showing that there was collusion by several other persons, who may also be charged.

Son of Wanted Mexican Drug Lord Names Belize in Sinaloa Cartel Empire
For the latest news across Belize, visit:
Belize is named as part of the network of the Sinaloa Drug cartel. It came during the trial of Joaquin ‘El Chapo’ Guzman, head of the infamous drug cartel, which is underway in the United States. The elusive leader, Mexico’s top drug kingpin, escaped from a maximum-security prison in July, 2015 and was recaptured on January eighth, 2016. Since his extradition to New York a year later, El Chapo faces a battery of charges, including drug trafficking with intent to distribute, conspiracy association, organized crime against health, money laundering, homicide and illegal possession of firearms. Vicente Zambada is the son of Ismael Zambada Garcia, also one of the organization’s leaders. Vicente is presently incarcerated in the United States and on Thursday, the so-called cartel prince went against the grain by providing detailed testimony on the operations of the drug-trafficking empire.
Vicente Zambada
Those specifics cover smuggling routes, money-laundering schemes and personal vendettas, among other particulars. During his time on the witness stand, Zambada glossed over the extent of the cartel’s activities in Belize and Honduras. Now, there have been frequent drug plane landings in the north and south of Belize so News Five contacted the Ministry of National Security earlier today for comment and Chief Executive Officer George Lovell spoke briefly on the information contained in a recently published New York Times article, as well as Belize’s efforts at fighting drug trafficking and transnational crimes.
Belize's Harrington Trapp: Same Old Me!
The legendary Belizean musical artist, Harrington Trapp, musical career span from his time as as a vocalist in the 1960's with bands in Belize like The Promoters and Glenn Bood & The Telegrams, to his work as a musical artist and vocalist in the United States in the 1970's and 80's with Belizean bands like the legendary, The Webb, to the reggae band called the Babylon Warriors. Since making his mark as an outstanding vocalist and trombone player with the Webb, Trapp later went on to carve out a career for himself as a solo artist and vocal stylist in the 1990's and beyond. His incredible body of work has warranted much respect and admiration from new and younger Belizean artists of today who credited the veteran Belizean artist, producer, and musician, with a model to emulate in their careers. Influenced by the 1960's R&B African-American musical renaissance of the 1960's of artists like Sly & The Family Stone, and other soulful troubadours of that era, Trapp began developing his authentic Belizean soulful style as a vocalist since his early musical debut as a teenager in the 1960's classic Belizean musical spectrum. A sensational artist that can put a spin on any genre or musical art form, Trapp's journey takes his listeners from a typical Caribbean style soul music vocalist, to a traditional Belizean Brukdong artist, and then on to a pulsating reggae vocalist, while culminating to a complete Caribbean vocal stylist than can sing in any Caribbean musical genre. Today the long lasting Belizean artist is only one in a few of the last remaining Belizean icons in contemporary Belizean music that can still hold his own, and has maintained a voice that is as strong as it was in the days when he sang the hit tune, Same Old Me, with the 1970's Belizesan musical group, The Webb, that he himself wrote and produced. Same Old Me became an instant hit that gave The Webb credibility among other African-American bands that were emerging at that time in the early 1970's like Brass Construction and Cameo. Since Trapps move from New York to Los Angeles in the late 1970's, many years after his migration out of Belize once called British Honduras at that time, his connection with the reggae scene blew him up as one of L.A.'s top reggae vocalist among many other local ones from all different backgrounds. Branded today as one of Belize's only musical artist that continues in the tradition of the Belizean musical Brukdong legend, Selwyn Peters, who became Belize's godfather of the traditional Creole Belizean dance crave, Trapp moves forward to establish Mr. Peters name as a global musical artist that is authentically Belizean. Though he continues to write and produce music in other forms like reggae, soca, and R&B, the also politically astute and conscious Belizean musical artist has pledged his remaining years on earth to sing and perform in the traditional Belizean musical style and art form called Brukdong.

Guilty as Charged – The Mason Five is Convicted of Beheading Pastor Lue
For the latest news across Belize, visit:
The sensational trial of William “Danny’’ Mason and four other accused men concluded today in the Belmopan Supreme Court. As the nation waited with bated breath, the verdict from Justice Antoinette Moore was guilty, all five of them, on the grounds that the evidence presented by the prosecution, led by D.P.P. Cheryl-Lynn Vidal, was irrefutable. Mason along with Ernest Castillo, Ashton Vanegas, and siblings Keiron and Terrence Fernandez had acted in a joint enterprise to murder Pastor Llewellyn Lucas on July fifteenth of 2016. While a body was not found, the pastor’s head was found by police in a bucket in Mason’s vehicle parked at a bar in Belmopan. According to the Justice, as a matter of law, the court only needed to know that some harm occurred that led to the Pastor’s death. Furthermore, it was well-established that the pastor’s death was not accidental or by his own making. News Five’s Isani Cayetano has a full coverage of the trial of the century that took place over weeks and ended in a guilty verdict.

Twenty-nine-year-old Tracy Mackinnon says that the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital is giving her a hard time to settle a claim against the national referral hospital. In May 2017, Mackinnon was admitted to the Emergency Department of the K.H.M.H. after she was experiencing abdominal pain while seven months pregnant. She was later sent to the maternity ward where she says they checked the heart rate of the unborn child and they told her that it was normal. She began vomiting and was informed that she was having uterine contractions, so she was given I.V. fluids, maxolon injection for her vomiting and another injection to mature the baby’s lungs. She was given a second maxolon injection despite objections from Mackinnon. An hour later, Mackinnon says she began shaking uncontrollably and became disoriented. Ten hours later, after the fetal heart rate was checked once more, she was informed that the baby had died. Mackinnon hired the services of attorney Darlene Vernon who wrote the K.H.M.H.A. about her client’s case. The K.H.M.H.A. responded willingly to settle the matter out of court and originally offered a sum of fifteen thousand dollars as compensation for damages.

Q LESLIE & CHARRO ON HORSE RACING AT THE BELIZE DERBY!
The legendary Belizean jockey, Q Leslie, came into the Belizean Legends studios along with his trainer, jockey, and buddy Richard Charro Ramirez and chatted with yours truly about the classic 1960s and 70s Belizean horse racing extravaganza that became one of Belize's most celebrated sports of all times. Q and Charro had to set the record straight after making it clear that the Finley Bishop story was just a part of Belize's sensational horse racing chapter.
We can still hear the legendary Belizean sportscaster, Bernard Aguet, bringing to Belizeans countrywide that smooth but exciting horserace sportscasting through Radio Belize. Aguet’s voice goes, “And the horses are at the starting gate…and they are off!” This is when the names like Q Leslie, Finley Bishop, Goldburn Stama Middleton, Ashley James, Nick Hernandez, Richard “Charro” Ramirez, the Cattouse Brothers, Lightburn, and all these big names in Belizean horse racing are heard in some of the most exciting ways you can imagine.
Like Belizean softball at Rogers Stadium and MCC Grounds in the 1970s, Belizean horse racing at the former Belize National Stadium, aka “Horse Track”, was a spectacular sport to see, as these racing jockey gladiators like Q Leslie , Finely BIshop, Ashley James, Golbburn Stamma Middleton, Elias Galvez, John Paddy King and many more, battled against each other for the coveted prizes. Their rivalry was most passionate during their competitive years as the best Belizean jockeys of the 1970s.
Seeing these jockeys race the best of Belizean race horses of the 1970s, like, Godfather, Lady Alice, Sir Jude, Misty, Welcome Sir, Tender Spot, Baby Ann, Majestic Prince, and many more, is something that must be seen rather than heard on “Radio Belize”.
It’s historic in this feature to reflect on that spirit of horse racing that once was Belize. Horse racing in Belize became a tradition that created sports entertainment, as well as well as live gambling in Belize’s own version of the “Kentucky Derby”. Belizeans at that time, marveled at this legendary American horse racing legend through short wave radio, but had their own version at home.
Now listen, watch and be entertained by this vibrant conversation between yours truly and two of Belize's legendary horse racing jockeys of the 1970s, Q Leslie and Richard Charro Ramirez bring you the exciting times that made Belize horse racing excitement moments of the 1960s and 70s.
