Good afternoon, Conn-young.
Now, with the long Chuseok holiday coming up here in Korea, I hear that you have a few ideas about things we can do to pass the time.
You heard right. Now a lot of folks may be away from their loved ones this Chuseok holiday, while others will be spending lots of time with their family. Regardless, here are some activities in and around Seoul that people of all ages are sure to enjoy
First off is the Korean folk village located in Yongin, Gyeonggi-do which is the vicinity of Seoul.
What better place to spend your Chuseok holiday than at a traditional Korean village to see how the holiday was spent by the nation's forefathers during the Chosun Dynasty.
The village is an exact replica of how life was in the past.
And for Chuseok, the village is offering special performances of traditional farm music, or nongak, tightrope dancing, horseback riding and even a traditional wedding ceremony These are just a few of the many, many activities being offered over the extended holiday weekend.
Join all the festivities, which begin on Thursday the 19th and run throughout the weekend. For directions, transportation information and a schedule of daily performances, you can check out the Korean Folk Village home page at KoreanFolk.co.kr
Now if you don't want to travel outside of Seoul for the holidays, why not stay in the city and visit the National Folk Museum of Korea located inside Gyeongbok Palace in Jongro The museum will be offering a variety of festivities for the holidays.
Join in for a hands-on experience with hanji, which is traditional Korean paper.
Or maybe you need to ward off some evil spirits.
If that's the case, you can learn to carve yourself a stodae, which is the figure of a duck carved out of a wooden pole that scares off demons.
Or perhaps you would like to try some traditional Korean folk games.
The National Folk Museum has you covered there as well.
You can try your hand, or feet rather, at jaegi-chagi, which is kicking a shuttlecock with your feet.
Or, you could always try your luck at throwing arrows in the traditional game tuho.
If all of that sounds like too much work to you, you can sit back and enjoy free music and dance performances that the museum will be holding throughout the day.
The museum will open to the general public from 9 in the morning to 7 at night.

And right outside the National Folk Museum, Gyeongbok Palace will be holding special performances as well.
You can enjoy an exciting tightrope walking display as well as the julgosa, which is the ceremony that always preceded the event, according to past royal records.
And in front of the Geungjeongjeon, which is the Throne Hall, a Bukcheong Lion Play to ward away evil spirits will take place.
Other festivities that guests are sure to enjoy are the gilnori, which is a road play, and pungmulnori, which is a performance of percussion instruments.

Now remember, this is just a small sample of what's going on... in and around Seoul for the Chuseok holiday So don't just sit around at home.
Go out and really enjoy yourself with all that Korea has to offer
Now I know that every culture has its own variation on a harvest festival, and for Korea that's Chuseok, which is deeply rooted in tradition and history.
Exactly, all the festivities that are being held are usually amplified because they are all done in hanbok, which is traditional Korean attire.
And all the activities you mentioned have a deeper meaning,... related to the harvest and the full moon.
Yes, that's correct As with other harvest festivals, Chuseok is held to give thanks for a bountiful harvest. People also do a memorial service to honor their ancestors known as Charye .
And of course there is the tradition of making a wish to the rabbit in the moon, which is very similar to the man in the moon in Western culture.
