President Benigno S. Aquino III met with the officials of the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) at the Imperial Hotel on the first day of his State Visit to Japan.
In the official meet-and-greet session, the President witnessed the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding on Business Promotion Cooperation between the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and JETRO.
Working to promote mutual trade and investment between Japan and the Philippines, JETRO is a government-related organization established in 1958 that aims to promote exports of Japan’s products abroad.
At present, it has 73 offices in 55 countries including Manila. Over the years, JETRO Philippines has promoted trade and investment between the two countries, focusing on products made by small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
Warmly greeting President Aquino were JETRO Chairman Hiroyuki Ishige together with Seiya Sukegawa (JETRO Senior Coordinator for Southeast Asia), Tomohiro Ando (JETRO Philippines Executive Director), Nobuyuki Nakajima (JETRO Chief Director, Niigata and Incoming Executive Director of Manila Office), Tomohiro Takashima (JETRO Director, Secretariat Office and Chief Personal Assistant for Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Yutaka Hashimoto), and Yuri Seki (JETRO Coordinator for Southeast Asia).
Also present during the event were the Cabinet Secretaries of the President.

The Winter Olympics in PyeongChang just had their closing ceremony and that means the world turns it's attention to Japan.
The Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympic Games are 2 years away, and here is what we know right now.
▶︎ WHEN ARE THE TOKYO 2020 OLYMPIC GAMES?
July 24, 2020 to August 9, 2020
▶︎ The New National Stadium
It's built on the same site as the 1964 Olympic Stadium.
Designed by Kengo Kuma, it's a very natural design surrounded by a lot of trees and parks.
▶︎ The Venues:
There are 34 Venues separated into 2 zones.
▶︎ Heritage and Tokyo Bay:
The Heritage zone is where the 1964 Olympics took place.
Tokyo Bay is where the aquatics center, BMX and Skateboard course will be as well as other event.
There are 12 events outside of these zones including foot / soccer, baseball, basketball.
▶︎ Ticket Prices for Tokyo 2020 Olympics:
The average ticket price will be 7,700 yen ($72)
and the opening and closing ceremonies will be between 25,000 yen ($235) and 150,000 yen ($1,400). Tickets will be sold online and at designated ticket centers in Tokyo.
There are 33 sports for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics including 5 new ones:
Aquatics, Archery, Athetics, Badminton, Baseball / Softball, Basketball, Boxing, Canoeing, Cycling, Equestrian, Fencing, Field Hockey, Football / Soccer, Golf, Gymnastics, Handball, Judo, Karate
Modern pentathlon, Rowing, Rugby sevens, Sailing, Shooting, Skateboarding, Sport climbing, Surfing, Table tennis, Taekwondo, Tennis, Triathlon, Volleyball, Weightlifting, Wrestling
Within these sports, there are 324 events.
Football / soccer actually starts 2 days before the opening ceremonies.

STORYLINE:
Japan and the US said on Friday that they have agreed on plans for returning to Japan land near Kadena Air Base on the southern island of Okinawa that is now used by US troops, in an effort to balance local concerns with support for the countries' military alliance.
A statement issued by both sides characterised the plan as a realignment and consolidation of US forces in Okinawa.
Recognising the strong desires of Okinawa residents, this consolidation plan is to be implemented as soon as possible while ensuring operational capability, including training capability, throughout the process, it said.
Okinawa was invaded by US forces in World War II and has had an American military presence ever since.
Tensions over land use, crimes committed by military personnel and disruptions by military flights on the heavily populated, semi-tropical island have been building over the years.
Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and US Ambassador to Japan John Roos announced the agreement on Friday.
This is a very important event for reducing the impact of our bases in Okinawa, but at the same time, maintaining the long-term sustainability of our bases and our ability to achieve peace and security in the region and the defence of Japan, Roos said.
The plans call for eventually returning more than 570 hectares (1,400 acres) of land near Kadena.
The various facilities and land are being returned to Japan as replacement locations become available and troops are transferred out of Japan.
It also includes separate timetables and arrangements for relocating the US Marine Corps' Futenma Air Station in the Okinawan city of Ginowan beginning in fiscal 2022.
The original plan for relocating Futenma to another location, Nago, by 2014 was put off due to local opposition.
Abe said the agreement demonstrated that both sides recognised the need to reduce the burden imposed on Okinawa by the Japan-US alliance.
We will follow this plan intending to do our best to realise the return (of Okinawan land) as soon as possible, he told reporters.
An earlier agreement called for setting detailed plans by late 2012 for returning facilities and land to Okinawa.
But progress was slowed by funding cuts that delayed relocating troops and facilities to Guam and families of US service members to South Korea.
