Pam and Callie's Tanzania Safari 2017 with Shadows of Africa
We had the trip of a lifetime on safari with tour operator Shadows of Africa!! We spent 8 amazing days on safari visiting Tarangire National Park, the Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, Lake Manyara and Lake Eyasi. We had the great pleasure of meeting and learning about the Masai, Hadzabi, and Datoga tribes. They each were so welcoming and kind. Our guide and driver, Bashiru, was top notch! We can't recommend him enough! Tent camping in the middle of the vast Serengeti is something everyone should have the chance to experience. Thanks to Jake at Shadows of Africa for arranging such an amazing trip for us!

Maji ya Nyamuswa
On a typical day in Nyamuswa ward in Bunda District, Tanzania, less than half of the residents has access to safe water. Yet there is plenty of water in the area and many dysfunctional and abandoned water projects. Radio reporter Mariam Mramba from the local radio station Redio Mazingira FM investigates who is responsible for maintaining the water infrastructure.

Cultural Heritage Centre Video - Africa Travel Channel
Africa Travel Channel Video: The Cultural Heritage Centre is an institution in Arusha. Featured in the movie Hatari in the 1960's it has since moved from the center of town to its current premises and is the biggest African art and curio outlet in the whole of Africa. Walking around The Cultural Heritage Center, one cannot help but marvel at the sheer magnitude of this operation and it soon becomes apparent that an entire day just isn't enough time to take it all in. The sheer talent of African artists, be they sculptors, painters, woodcarvers or bead workers, is nothing less than mind numbing and the sensitivity with which it is showcased is as pleasing as the art itself. The coup de grace awaits. Nearing completion is Cultural Heritage Center's new art gallery. Built in the shape of an African drum in the shadow of a shield, this enormous edifice is destined to be one of the finest showcases for African art the world has ever seen.

Moshi To Arusha Road Trip 2015
A NASA Safari into Africa's Topography
The Shuttle Radar Topography Mission produced the first detailed elevation model of most of the world.
Here we use the model, overlain by two Landsat satellite images, to simulate a flight around northern Tanzania.
We are descending toward Mount Kilimanjaro, which is high enough to have glaciers, even though it is just south of the equator.
Mount Kilimanjaro is a volcano, as are most peaks that rise above the savanna here.
Mount Meru, another volcano, shows evidence of explosion and collapse of its eastern flank.
The lower lying Ngurdoto Crater in the foreground now hosts a diversity of African wildlife.
Sharp boundaries of the green jungles show where land use development meets protected habitat.
We are now flying west toward the East African Rift, where the African continent is splitting apart.
We see two stands of the rift, each starting at a muddy lake in the foreground and converging northward to meet at a bright salt-encrusted dry lake bed in the distance.
We will now proceed up the western stand, flying over volcanic highlands that have emerged from the rift, and then loop across the dry lake, Lake Natron.
In arid areas dry lakes like this form in topographic basins where evaporation generally keeps up with the rate of stream water inflow.
Moving eastward, we see that ground cracking, related to the rift, is evident upon and between volcanic peaks.
Here at Mount Kitumbeine, we are reminded that the jungle occurs only at the high, cooler elevations, where mountain peaks extract moisture from passing air masses.
Back to the Highlands, we circle the 20-kilometer wide Ngorongoro Crater, which is one of the world's great wildlife preserves.
The crater walls encircle elephants, giraffes, rhinos, lions, and hippos, among others.
We are now returning across the savanna to Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest peak in Africa.
The glaciers here are melting and are expected to disappear soon.
Satellite imagery and elevation data helps us to monitor and understand such changes in the environment, here in Africa as well as across the globe.

Maasai elder riding a MOUNTAIN BIKE over the African plains as first ever cycling safari launches in
Visit :
Photos show Maasai elder riding a MOUNTAIN BIKE over the African plains as first-ever cycling safari launches in the shadow of Kilimanjaro
A Maasai elder was pictured riding a mountain bike for the first time to his village
The man, known as Isaac, took to a mountain bike to mark the launch of a new cycle tour
The route, launched by Intrepid Travel, is the first-ever to go through Arusha National Park
The Maasai people of East Africa are more regularly seen wandering the dusty safari plains on foot in colourful dress.
But these stunning shots show a Maasai elder riding a mountain bike for the first time, with the the shiny spokes and steel frame striking a sharp contrast to his traditional guise.
The village elder, known as Isaac, took to a mountain bike to mark the launch of a new cycle tour.
Captured close to the small village of Mtu Wa Mbo in Tanzania, the images show the Masaai man pedalling over the sandy, scorched ground, with his Superman-coloured red and blue clothing billowing behind him.
The new bicycle route, launched by Intrepid Travel, is the first-ever to go through Arusha National Park - the site of Kilimanjaro's little sister, Mount Meru (4566m).
Isaac led the first group of cyclists to venture on the trek to his village, which is located more than 160km outside of the National Park.
As he neared the community, children gathered around to catch a glimpse of Isaac's new ride.
Photos show one Maasai child, confidently taking to the saddle with one of the cyclists keeping a close eye on him.
Mountain biking is becoming increasingly popular in Africa.
Many say it offers a more intimate view of the wildlife and scenery as opposed to touring around in a Jeep.
Despite this, many national parks do not permit cyclists due to dangerous animals. But for those keen on Arusha, there are no lions roaming around the lushly forested park.
This week Lonely Planet released a new guide, Epic Bike Rides Of The World, with one of its toughest routes being the 'Tour d'Afrique'.
The 7,500-mile route - which starts in Cairo, Egypt - takes bikers through a range of landscapes, zipping through Sudan, Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia, Botswana and Namibia.
