#SHANGA: Arusha Tanzania
Attractions that are made by people with disabilities.
Shanga & Shanga Foundation
Combining an uplifting local community project with unique artistic activities and an opportunity to purchase handmade gifts, Shanga is all about the workshop where over 70 disabled Tanzanians recycle glass, paper and aluminium into high quality jewellery, glassware and homewares, using recycled materials wherever possible. These products are sold in Tanzania and all over the world, with profits being reinvested back into the development of new products and further employment of disabled people.
glass blowers at the Arusha, Tanzania, Shanga River House create a water pitcher
The Shanga River House near Arusha, Tanzania, is a cooperative where physically challenged Tanzanians are trained to create traditional jewelry and crafts from local fabrics and recycled materials. The two glass blowers featured here are professionals (from Kenya, I think) who are training others in their specialty.
