Cage Diving with Great Whites
On a journey through South Africa, along the Garden Route, we came across a brochure for Shark Diving Unlimited, in Gansbaai, South Africa. As the thrill seekers that we are we decided that we should jump at the chance so we read a bit more information, made the phone call and then booked our dive trip.
There is no experience necessary. You don't need to know how to use scuba equipment as they don't use it when you jump in the cage. In fact, when we did our dives we were instructed to simply hold your breath.
It was a spectacular, yet terrifying experience. If your ever in South Africa, these guys were great to adventure with.
GREAT WHITE SHARK Cage diving – Rodney Fox Port Lincoln, South Australia
Its a once in a lifetime experience to join the Rodney fox boat and do some Great White Shark Cage Diving. I have been lucky enough to do it twice, about 5 years apart. I would recommend the 3 day journey out with the Rodney Fox crew as there is a lot more opportunity to see the sharks in both the surface cage and diving cage.
I think I much enjoyed the diving cage more due the Sharks just gliding by all the time.
REX airlines flys into Port Lincoln which can connect from anywhere to Adelaide. I guess you could take the drive over there too....
Thanks
Chris

LEAD IN:
Tourists are flocking to the South African coastal town of Gansbaai to take to the water in cages to view the Great White Shark at close range... from the safety of a metal cage.
Gansbaai is the one of the most densely populated areas in the world for Great White Sharks, and is popular with shark watchers and thrill seekers.
STORYLINE:
The Great White shark is one of nature's most advanced and fearsome predators.
It has a remarkable sense of smell, can acutely detect the electrical fields from living creatures.
The open stretch of water between the mainland and Dyer Island off Gansbaai is notorious for the Great White who patrol the watery depths in search of an easy meal.
Now tourist trips are offering amateur divers a chance to get an up-close look at the fearsome creature, which can grow as big as seven meters (23 feet).
A reinforced cage, which holds up to four people, is mounted next to the boat to allow divers to literally jump in and view them as they cruise past.
Divers prefer not to use snorkels in the cage as the bubbles tend to make the sharks nervous.
Gerald Engelbrecht, a boat skipper, said they used bait to attract the sharks to the boat.

10 Of The Most Dangerous Beaches In The World
10 Of The Most Dangerous Beaches In The World.
1. Kilauea – Hawaii
Hawaii is famous for amazing beaches, big waves, and perfect sunbathing weather but it’s not without it’s dangers. Hawaii also has numerous volcanoes with Mt. Kilauea being the most active. The sand on the Kilauea beach is black from volcanic ash and while it may be an amazing place to visit, there is still the danger of the volcano erupting. Especially when you consider that it has been active since 1983, it should make you think twice about visiting here.
2. Playa Zipolite – Mexico
Mexico is home to Cancun Beach which has been voted the most beautiful in the world but it is also home to one of the most deadliest beaches too. The name of the beach supposedly translates to “beach of the dead” which alone should put off visiting here but it still has a large amount of tourists visiting every year.
Playa Zipolite looks like paradise and can put you into a false sense of security, a dip into the luscious blue sea could end up being your last as the waves are huge which result in dangerous undercurrents. So many people have died on this beach that a special lifeguard team have been stationed here, thanks to these heroes the number of drownings has declined over the years.
3. Fraser Island – Australia
Sadly Fraser Island is a paradise that is forbidden to people as the seas are home to dangerous jellyfish and sharks. The beach is just as dangerous too as the island is home to some of the world’s deadliest spiders and a few large crocodiles too. Is this piece of paradise really worth the risk?
4. Gansbaai – South Africa
Gansbaai has so many white sharks in the waters that it has become a tourist attraction for adventure seekers. You can feed the mighty beasts and if courageous enough can take a swim with them too. Of course you’ll be given a shark proof cage for safety otherwise you’ll be their food.
5. Volusia County – Florida
Florida was in the headlines as it had the highest amount of shark attacks in 2013. There have been more shark sightings off the coast of Volusia County than in the entire South African region, which is notorious for its shark habitat. While most shark attacks in Florida are not fatal it still puts you off wanting to take a dip.
But it’s not just sharks that are a threat, Florida also has the highest fatalities from lightening strikes in North America too. Guess you are not safe in the water or on the beach.
6. Chowpatty Beach – India
Chowpatty Beach is India’s most famous beach but it is also one of the most polluted in the world too. Every year hundreds of Mumbai residents celebrate the Hindu festival of Ganesha Chaturthi on the beach and it’s a tradition to wash their idols of Lord Ganapati in the sea.
But as the waters and beach are so disgusting the chances of catching something here are highly likely.
7. Bikini Atoll – US Marshall Islands
Bikini Atoll has a high amount of marine life making it a great place to dive and it has also been made a Unesco World Heritage Site. But despite it’s beauty there are also dangers.
The seas are shark infested and it was once a testing ground for nuclear weapons between 1946 to 1958. Around 20 nuclear bombs were set off on the islands infecting the area with radiation. The government has since declared the area safe but do you still want to visit there?
8. Schitovaya Bukhta – Russia
Schitovaya Bukhta is known to be one of the greatest surfing spots in the world but unfortunately there are also numerous military facilities based here. Because of this, surfers need to apply for a permit to ride the waves and secondly one of these bases houses old nuclear submarines which leak radiation.
9. Heard Island – Antarctica
While most people prefer a beach with plenty of sunshine some extreme surfers like to visit Heard Island. Being the Antarctic the sea is ice cold but the surfers love the big waves, even if it does often give them hypothermia.
10. North Sentinel Island – Andaman Islands
The natives on this island do not like outsiders, an attempt to make contact by India ended in their plane being shot by flaming arrows and the need for a quick escape. In another instance a boat run ashore on the island, the two occupants were instantly killed by the natives.

A Honeymooning Couple have Escaped Attack By White Shark in South Africa || HD
The terrifying footage was filmed in ‘Shark Alley’ in Gansbaai, a shallow channel located between the two islands Dyer Island and Geyser Rock. The channel is aptly named due to the sheer amount of seals that feed in the area is a constant food source for sharks.
These thrill seekers were able to see the predatory nature of a great white shark up-close and personal.

Shark Diving Gone Wrong
Shark tourism has become widely popular - more and more people are fascinated by the majestic predators. Here are some cases where shark diving went terribly wrong...
Subscribe for new videos:
Voiceover by Rodney Tompkins:
7: Ming Chan
In October 2016, Ming Chan, a 51 year old part time scuba instructor from Shanghai was among 20 people on a diving tour at Guadalupe Island, Mexico. There, Chan jumped into a shark diving cage in the water, hoping to get a close up view of the sea creatures. He looked on as a 10 foot long great white shark rose to the surface to devour a piece of bait used to attract it towards the cage. Suddenly, the cage started shaking and the water inside was frothing and foaming. Chan, who happened to be the only diver inside, realized that he was trapped inside the small cage
6: Katie Yonker, Yann and others
After the terrifying footage of Ming Chan escaping a great white shark spread across the internet, another video has emerged, showing another case of shark diving gone wrong in the very same waters of Guadalupe Island, Mexico which occurred in September 2016. Katie Yonker, who was one of the 4 divers trapped in a shark diving cage while being attacked by a 4.5 meter shark described the terrifying experience. The female shark known as Milana Arnone had swam up to the tank's air supply and bit its hose, resulting in an explosion of air bubbles, and the oxygen supply to the 4 divers in the cage was cut off. The dive master, named Yann
5: Jeff Kerr and Andy Casagrande
In 2015, marine scientists Jeff kerr and Andy Casagrande were in New Zealand’s waters investigating the sightings of a 20 foot great white shark. The shark experts were filming a documentary film for Discovery Channel, and intended to tag the creature and other members of its species with fin cameras to track their movements and migration. But their efforts proved not without difficulties when they faced an intense and bone chilling encounter with the sea predators. The pair of researchers was exploring the waters at night. In the hope of getting a better image of the modern day legend, Andy was lowered into a shark cage
4: Roger Gray
In March 2013, one wife nearly lost her husband the following day of their marriage after her thrill seeking husband got more than he bargained for. Roger Gray, newlywed, was shark diving in Gansbaai, just off the coast of South Africa's Western Cape. But as Roger was observing the predators from the apparent safety of a diving cage, one rogue shark decided to ignore the fake bait surrounding the area, and go straight to the live humans. Through sheer strength the shark managed to penetrate its head through the steel bars
3: Spencer and Tiffany Reilly
Another case of newlyweds nearly getting killed in the shark infested waters of Gansbaai, South Africa was that of Spencer and Tiffany Reilly, who went honeymooning in the popular destination in November 2015. The couple was submerged inside a shark cage, watching the sea creatures while shark bait
2: John Petty
Dr John Petty, a chiro-practitioner from Texas went scuba diving in the Bahamas on July 13, 2014. The 63 year old avid adventurer and award winning underwater photographer was extremely excited, as he would be swimming alongside tiger sharks as part of an ongoing project of his to photograph exotic animals from all over the world. The expedition was an audacious one, as Petty dived in open waters instead of inside the safety of a cage. Cage-free shark dives has been increasingly popular in the region over the last decade, and Petty was drawn to it, wanting to get the best shots of Bahamian tiger sharks. Along with seven other divers, Petty arrived at Grand Bahama Island. They spent around 5 hours in the water
1: Markus Groh
As shown in the case of John Petty, cageless shark dives could easily go wrong. For this reason, cageless shark dives that specifically target dangerous species through shark feeding has been banned in many places. However, some shark diving operators in Florida bypass the system by taking their customers to the Bahamas where the law does not take effect. Markus Groh, a lawyer from Vienna, Austria participated in one such expedition. In 2008, the 49 year old went into the Bahamian waters for a cageless shark diving experience. Sharks were lured using crates of chum made of dead fish and fish entrails to bring the predators closer
TERRIFYING Moment Great White Shark Breaks Into Diving Cage
Terrifying moment a great white shark got INSIDE a cage and almost ate a newlywed for dinner. One new wife nearly lost her husband after only one day of marriage after a group of thrill-seekers got far more than they bargained for.

Swimming with a 5m GREAT WHITE SHARK! And LIVING to tell the tale!? (South Africa, January 2015.)
Swimming with a 5 meter (16 ft.) GREAT WHITE SHARK (one of the world's most deadly animals!) And LIVING to tell the tale!? (South Africa, January 2015.)
WOW! A 19 year old thrill seeker and Rutgers University student from New York state, Rudy Hernández Fuentes, reportedly free swam with a 5 meter great white shark (I.e without a safety cage) while vacationing in South Africa... and he survived without a scratch!
The alleged -- potentially deadly -- encounter took place near Gansbaai, Cape Town, in South Africa earlier this year.
(And who exactly was holding the camera!?)
As always, we now pose the questions...
Fact?
Or Fake?
And then we let YOU decide...
Actually, the fact is, people have swam -- and indeed have been filmed swimming -- with great white sharks several times before. Please see video link below for example:
So while great white sharks are obviously capable of being devastating predators and indeed killers, they are far from one dimensional munching machines; it seems there are definitely occasions when they can interact completely calmly and harmlessly with other creatures, including humans (that's not to say we would in a million years encourage anyone to seek out an underwater encounter or swimming session with one of them! No, no, safety first (leave it to the experts)).
The music -- called Horror I -- was composed by Android Music.
Many thanks for watching and we'd of course love to have you as a subscriber,
Lionel J. Theodore (Chief Administrator)
P.S. this is primarily an entertainment -- and sometimes comedy/parody -- channel! (So please don't take things too seriously as the video you've just watched is possibly a fake or at least grossly exaggerated. Thanks again!)
SHARK DIVING IN FLORIDA
Truly a great day! After meeting with the FLORIDA SHARK DIVE crew near the U-tiki beach in Jupiter, Fl. we took the boat near a drop off out in the ocean to spot some sharks that come to feed in that area. We got lucky and got to swim with a pair of lemon sharks, one of which was a pregnant female and also spotted a sea turtle that came close to our boat. Captain John was very helpful in providing information about the area and the sharks and Nainoa took some very interesting underwater pictures. It was a really great and unique experience!
