The Shenkeng Old Street (Chinese: 大溪老街; pinyin: Dàxī Lǎojiē) is an old street in Shenkeng District, New Taipei, Taiwan.
Local residents around the street protested to Taipei Country Government from letting them demolish the buildings along the street in the 1980s. In 2014, the Shenkeng Old Street Management Committee was established to manage the daily operation of the old street.
The street is famous for its tofu-related food, such as tofu gourmet, tofu snacks and tofu popsicle from various types of tofu.

Join us, The Go To Family, on the ultimate food experience! We found a hidden street food gem right outside the center of Taipei.
Shenkeng Old Street won’t disappoint those looking for the best Taiwanese street food in Taipei. Often forgotten in guidebooks, this is not a place to miss if you’re looking to try stinky tofu, a Taiwanese food speciality. Its name is pretty self-explanatory – it stinks! Its distinctive smell cannot be missed, especially on this street that is dedicated to the preparation of stinky tofu. Despite this, stinky food is a sort of comfort food for Taiwanese people. We tried stinky tofu at a couple of shops along the street - spicy red pepper stinky tofu, fermented tofu chowder, pickled stinky tofu, grilled stinky tofu and tofu ice cream.

深坑老街位在山青水綠的深坑區,景色優美,近年來以遠近馳名的深坑豆腐,吸引眾多遊客來訪.老街兩旁還有各式小吃,藝品的店面及攤位,邊逛邊試吃,可說是樂趣無窮.老街口的百年茄苳和樟樹,是這裡著名的地標,經整建後的老街建築洋溢古風.來深坑品嘗美食之餘,細細品味這些古意建築,也別有一番風味.
We Survive the Stinkiest Stinky Tofu in Taiwan | Taiwanese Street Food | Shenkeng Old Street Taipei
We were on the search for the stinkiest tofu of all Taiwan when we visited Taipei. Shenkeng Old Street outside of Taipei is the place to find stinky tofu! This road is covered in stinky tofu street food shops and restaurants. At the beginning of the road, one place caught our eye or you could say nose because it had the stinkiest smell out of all the surrounding places. The stinky tofu dish here is served up in a fatty pork sauce with huge chunks of fermented tofu and fried tofu topped with ground pork. The taste was interesting, to say, the least. Even Ava, our 7-year-old daughter, took a taste of this classic Taiwanese dish. I'm glad to say we all survived and it is a must-do experience when visiting Taipei.

'Tofu Capital' ShenKeng Old Street (深坑老街) in Taipei, Taiwan
Tour of 'Tofu Capital' ShenKeng Old Street (深坑老街) in central New Taipei City in northern Taiwan during our visit on Feb. 28, 2014.
Formerly an agricultural and mining town, it is now famous for its numerous tofu restaurants and vendors. ShenKeng's economy is centred around tourism which is primarily based largely on tofu. The district is well-known in culinary circles and has been a subject of media interest in Japan and Hong Kong. The tofu from ShenKeng has an unusual ratio of soybean to gypsum, giving it a yellowish color and distinctive flavor.

Terus abis udah lelah...kita nyobain makanan yang harus dicoba (Stinky Tofu) di Shenkeng old street.
Padahal udah lelah ya... tapi dari shenkeng old street udah jam 9 lewat an kita masih ke 101 tower baru ke Ningxia night market.
sampe akhirnya kita pulang jalan kaki 1 kilo lebih ditengah malem, saking udah ga ada bis. (ini ga ada di video, tapi ada di highlight IG story gw)

Stinky Tofu Taiwan - Delicious Stinky Tofu in Shenkeng
We travelled all the way down to Shenkeng Old Street in New Taipei City to try the best Stinky Tofu Taiwan has to offer.
First Stop: Jin Da Ding Barbecued Stinky Tofu
Located at the street's entrance, it is one of the oldest stores selling Stinky Tofu in Shenkeng. Grilled, brushed with sauce, filled with spicy pickeled cabbage, cilantro and dusted with finely chopped peanuts. Jin Da Ding was featured in CNN, Discovery Channel, BBC and various local TV.
Next Stop: Gu Zao Cuo Stewed Stinky Tofu
Firm Stinky Tofu stewed in duck's blood, topped with dried fish, ground pork, beans of some sort, bamboo shoots and cilantro.
Dessert Time: Tofu Soft Ice Cream!
Taiwan is also famous for Mochi. There were a couple of stalls selling fresh mochi in Shenkeng. We had to try some!
