Hachiman-bori Canal is the pride and joy of Omihachiman City. The canal is five-kilometers long and was used in the past to not only transport people and merchandises but also used to divide the city by class and caste.
It was in the late 16th Century that the Toyotomi noble family wanted to develop Omihachiman City by connecting it to Lake Biwa, and de facto made Omihachiman City into a huge trading post between Tokyo and Kyoto.

Baikamo looks like Japanese apricot flower.Flowers bloom from mid-May to late August. This aquatic plant grows only in a clear stream with a water temperature of around 14 ° C, and its place of growth is limited throughout the country.

Northeast of Hikone Castle, Genkyu-en has been designated as a National Place of Scenic Beauty. Centering on a huge pond, the garden with 9 bridges was built by Naooki Ii, the 4th lord of the Ii clan, in 1677. With Hikone Castle in the background, the beautiful Rinchikaku kiosk seems to extend into the pond.
