Exploring Shinjuku and Golden Gai (Tokyo Vlog #5)
Don't miss Tokyo Vlog #4 at ULTRA Japan with Kygo:
After a big day and night at ULTRA Japan music festival, we got a super late start the next morning. We hopped the subway to wander the Shinjuku district and stumbled upon a hilarious shop filled with costumes, gadgets and gizmos.
We goofed off for far too long then made our way to Tokyo's famous Golden Gai for a cocktail. Golden Gai is EVERYTHING it's hyped up to be: quirky, cute and totally cool!
List of places we visited:
Don Quijote (Shop with Funny Stuff)

Shinjuku, Tokyo - Kabukicho, Ichiran Ramen, Golden Gai | Japan travel guide (vlog 4)
Shinjuku, Tokyo, Japan! Shinjuku is one of the most unique districts in Tokyo. It's where you find Kabukicho (the famous red-light district), Godzilla head, Omoide Yokocho (Piss Alley), Golden Gai and, why not? Ichiran Ramen. This is not an attraction per se, but Ichiran Ramen restaurant is also considered by many a must-visit in Tokyo, whether you do it in Shinjuku or another district. Japan ramen is really delicious! If you're in Japan for the Rugby World Cup 2019, make sure you visit Shinjuku.
We start by visiting the observation deck of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government building. Totally free and really nice view! From there we pass in front of Shinjuku station, the busiest transport hub in the world, and keep walking to Omoide Yokocho or Piss Alley (the famed drinking street). We then cross Kabukicho, the well-known red-light district in Tokyo, see the Godzilla head come alive, walk through Golden Gai alleyways and finally end up at Ichiran Ramen for an enormous and fantastic bowl of ramen.

► WHO AM I?
Short answer: I am a Brazilian journalist living in the United States. After traveling the world working with sports, news, and events for over 15 years, I realized that what I really love is the travel part of it all. So I exchanged the life in the newsrooms and stadiums for the daily challenge of being an independent content producer. I created this channel to share the beauties of the world... stuff that for so long I only kept to myself. Also to help people planning similar trips and to inspire more people to venture out and enjoy life!
Detailed answer: ????
P.S.: The guy who occasionally appears in the vlogs is my husband, Gordon. He is Canadian-American and is extremely camera shy, that's why he's behind the camera most of the time ;-)

Exploring Ginza, Golden Gai and Shinjuku in Tokyo, Japan
We left Thailand and made our way to Tokyo, Japan. We flew with Japan Airlines, it was one of the best airlines that we had ever experienced. The food and service was superior to other airlines we had flown before.
When we arrived in Tokyo airport we had no Japanese Yen, luckily there were plenty of ATMS. The only issue was the ATMS we’re in Japanese and didn’t explain anything in English. We ended up trying two different ATMS in the airport before we figured out how to get cash out at the 3rd ATM. It was late at night and the train was no longer running so we had to take a taxi to our hotel.
Tokyo is not well known for driving by car, most people use the subways or trains. Driving from the airport to our hotel was super fast, there was no traffic on the road, which at the time we thought it was because it was so late at night; However we quickly learned it was because no one drives in Tokyo or at least almost no one.
We had a week to spend in Tokyo and we had lot’s of things we wanted to do. Our hotel was in the Ginza district which is well known for it’s shopping and restaurants, we spent a day exploring the area. Another day we made our way to Golden Gai, this was one of our favourite areas, it’s filled with small boutique restaurants and bars and is located in the Shinjuku area. This area was also a ton of fun to explore and offered a few different vegetarian restaurants.
To get around Tokyo, we learned the most affordable way was to purchase a 3 day tourist pass. It’s a discounted subway pass, getting the ticket proved to be a little tricky. If you watch the entire video we made, near the end we will show you where the ticket office was located.

Originally from Vancouver, Canada we started an activewear business with nothing but a $5,000 credit card. Over 5 years we grew to over a million dollars in sales, and had our products sold in hundreds of stores, we were featured on Dragons Den, Bloomberg and much more!
As the business grew it was becoming more stressful, and more expensive to keep up with the growth. In April 2019 we decided that we had enough and decided to sell everything and travel the world in search of adventure, happiness and new experiences. We started this YouTube channel to share our memories with family and friends, and even more so as a way to document our memories for ourselves! We are travelling FULL TIME as of June 2019, and we hope you will follow along our journey!

TOKYO, EXPLORING the SMALL BARS and narrow alleys of SHINJUKU (Golden Gai), JAPAN
SUBSCRIBE: - Shinjuku Golden Gai (新宿ゴールデン街) is a small area of Shinjuku, Tokyo, Japan, famous both as an area of architectural interest and for its nightlife. It is composed of a network of six narrow alleys, connected by even narrower passageways which are just about wide enough for a single person to pass through. Over 200 tiny shanty-style bars, clubs and eateries are squeezed into this area.
Japan is an island nation in the Pacific Ocean with dense cities, imperial palaces, mountainous national parks and thousands of shrines and temples. Shinkansen bullet trains connect the main islands of Kyushu (with Okinawa's subtropical beaches), Honshu (home to Tokyo and Hiroshima’s atomic-bomb memorial) and Hokkaido (famous for skiing). Tokyo, the capital, is known for skyscrapers, shopping and pop culture.

KABUKICHO and GOLDEN GAI - Shinjuku Tokyo { A daily LIVING IN JAPAN vlog}
Shinjuku is one of 23 wards that make up Tokyo. It has the world's busiest and craziest train station. So many things to do and see when you visit here.
Kabukichō (歌舞伎町) is an entertainment and red-light district in Shinjuku, Tokyo, Japan. Kabukichō is the location of many host and hostess clubs, love hotels, shops, restaurants, and nightclubs, and is often called the Sleepless Town (眠らない街). The district's name comes from late-1940s plans to build a kabuki theater: although the theater was never built, the name stuck.
Shinjuku Golden Gai (新宿ゴールデン街) is a small area of Shinjuku, Tokyo, Japan, famous both as an area of architectural interest and for its nightlife. Guys, I've decided that I'm going to take a more direct and honest approach with you, my viewers. And part of that real talk has to do with something most Youtubers are not that willing to talk about - money.
The thing with Youtube ad-revenue is that it really doesn't make channels money, and the only way smaller channels can earn an income worth the time spent making videos is with lots of low quality content, or sponsored content.
Thus, I started Patreon to help with the costs of producing these videos. There's a few costs like: travelling around Tokyo, entrance fees and the cost of my time (hundreds of hours scripting, shooting, editing).
A lot of my fellow YouTuber friends are using Patreon so that their audience can support them directly. I would LOVE to make working on this channel my full-time job, so If you feel that my content is worth it then please have a look at my Patreon page and help me grow TheTokyo Drew community.
Let's make awesome vids together:

GOLDEN GAI - Is it foreigner friendly?
The Golden Gai is an area in Shinjuku, Tokyo, with over 200 bars in 6 alleys. Is it safe for foreigners to visit?
We visited the Golden Gai and went to Bar Plastic Model, a bar featured in the game No More Heroes. The bars in the Golden Gai are tiny, some with only a few seats along a bar. You can walk to the Golden Gai from Shinjuku Station. It's right next to Kabukicho, the red light district, and is also close to Higashi Shinjuku and Shinjuku Sanchome metro stations.

Shinjuku's Golden Gai: Tokyo Travel Vlog
In this episode, I explore a popular area of Tokyo’s Shinjuku district called, the Golden Gai. This 1 km perimeter stretch is home to around sixty tiny bars, pubs and izakayas.
Most of these establishments have the capacity to hold 8-10 people at a time. Light snacks are served as well as alcohol of course. Smoking is permitted inside, which took some getting used to, coming from Toronto, Canada, where smoking inside non-residential dwellings, isn’t permitted.
The area is popular among locals and tourists alike, and gets fairly busy even on a weeknight but, of course, this is Tokyo.
Despite that, there’s still a fairly laidback, easy going vibe here. The camaraderie and rapport I observed between customers, bartenders and other patrons, suggests that many of these venues see frequent goers.
For me, what I enjoyed most were the neon filled lights sprinkled throughout the narrow, commuter friendly streets and alley ways. The sake (Japanese alcohol beverage) was also a delight, second to none as a matter of fact, and I share that and more with you here.
