Shoolpaneshwar on Wheels

On a rainy day, we decided to travel through the jungle which is known for the leopard Sanctuary. Shoolpaneshwar wildlife Sanctuary is about 135 km away form our home town and we made a two days bike journey through the jungle in a heavy rain. It was a great fun on road and off road bike riding.

Rare, unique & amazing Blanford's Rock agama in Shoolpaneshwar wildlife sanctuary in Gujarat

Blanford's rock agama (Psammophilus blanfordanus) is an agamid lizard found in Peninsular India and is named after William Thomas Blanford (1832–1905), member of the Geological Survey of India. It is one of two species in the genus and is found mainly to the east of the distribution of Psammophilus dorsalis. Unlike the other species, the male in breeding season has the red body color restricted to the head and lacks the broad dorsal stripe.

Although very similar to P. dorsalis, a specimen of P. blanfordus can be separated by several features such as a deeper fold on the front of the humerus, and the scales on body are a little larger, and range in numbers from 80 to 100 at the middle of the body, and the dorsal scales appear keeled and imbricated. When the hind leg is stretched forward and held along the body, it reaches the eye or extends beyond it. Often, a small spine is found behind the edge of the brow-ridge of the eye, and a few enlarged scales are scattered on the sides. Young lizards are olive-brown above, spotted or marbled with brown very similar to the female, but often have a series of large, lozenge-shaped, dark brown spots with pale centres on the back and tail. The adult male is much like P. dorsalis, but in the summer breeding season, the head and anterior part of the body of the males become scarlet or red while the posterior parts are nearly black.

They are found mainly on rocks. The male displays by head nodding.[2]

From snout to vent, they are about 10 cm long and the tail is about 20 cm. Females are slightly smaller than the males

This species is common on many of the hills from Chota Nagpur (as high as Parasnath Hill to 4,500 feet), Madhya Pradesh and extending south along the Godavari District, hills of the Eastern Ghats. The southernmost record appears to be Talayar in Travancore, where a specimen was collected by Harold S. Ferguson at 7,000 feet.

Wildlife Adventure & Waterfall for Eco tourism - Surpaneshwar Sanctuary

There are many adventuros wildlife places in Gujarat, India. One such place is Shoolpaneshwar (also called as Surpaneshwar) wildlife sanctuary, located in Narmada district of South Gujarat. Shoolpaneshwar sanctuary has very dense and lush green forest. Over here there is a beautiful and virgin waterfall named as Zarwani Waterfall. This picturesque waterfall is surrounded by dense forest. It is a best place for those who want to explore unexplored natural places and enjoy nature away from crowded noisy cities. Zarwani waterfall and its surrounding places can be explored as adventure and eco-tourism sites. A small village near to waterfall and friendly people makes this site more inviting.

On the way to Zarwani waterfall there is ancient Shoolpaneshwar (Shiv) temple. This temple is located on the banks of Narmada River. Also the famous Sardrsarover dam is located on the way to the water fall.

This video I shot during one of my solo gypsy trip. During this trip I explored new places and meet amazing people. Mostly traveled by means of walking, stayed in villages, ate local food, and came across many ancient stories and lot of adventure…

Sardar Dam & Surpaneshwar temple - GUJARAT

Sardar Sarovar Dam
Near Rajpipla, 1163 km away up the river from the sea, is Sardar Sarovar dam.You can book a guided tour which will take you through six points around the dam site: a garden; the foundational stone laid by Jawaharlal Nehru in 1961; a site with a side view of the flow of the water from the dam; a lake where boating takes place; the first lock gate of the main canal; a trekking site with a nature education camp for students. Near the site is also the Surpaneshwar Shiva temple that the Government had built to replace the original ancient temple that was submerged by the dam. The original Surpaneshwar Temple was on a rock in the middle of river Narmada, after the dam construction the temple was submerged. Therefore a new temple was made at an elevated spot near Gora Village, overlooking the Narmada river.

Trekking Narmada Forest || Shoolpaneshwar Sanctuary Tracking

A Trek to Panaghat(A water falls inside dip forest area) was start from Khumbhikotar. It was a day trek around 14 km.

The experience of this trek was amazing, we have crossed river streams multiple times across the trekking route.

The Panghat the end point of trek rout is a amazing waterfalls(at the end of this video) in this dip forest area. This forest falls in Sagbara Range, Narmada.

This Trekking is organized by Narmada Forest Division, Gujarat Forest Department and one of the adventurous trek of 'Narmada Trekking Festival'
