Tamrabharani Jalābhishekam at the Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam
2018 oct 21: The pure, crystal clear waters of the river Tamrabarani, literally, copper-filled, was brought to the Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam from Thiruppudaimaradur in Thirunelveli district. The area is known for its copper deposits. The ancients knew about copper and its value and named the river after the natural mineral found there. Tamra means copper in Sanskrit. Jagadguru, Pujyashree Shankara Vijayendra Sarasvati Shankarācharya Svami poured the river water gently over Sri Ādi Sankara, and also on Shree Mahā Periava and Shree Jayendra Periava in the adhistānams. He then offered karpoora deepāradhana. Soon after, He was showered with water from the various homes conducted at the Sri Matham during Navaratri and also the water from the sacred river.
