Hangseshwari Temple | Bandel Church | Hooghly Imambara | Chandannagar Strand And Superb Street Food
This vlog is about a Day Tour and Street Food what I experienced on my recent visit to Hangseshwari Temple, Bandel Church, Hooghly Imambara, Chandannagar Strand and Sacred Church of Chandannagar. I thoroughly enjoyed the tour, I hope you will also enjoy the vlog.
Hangseshwari Temple: Hangseswari Temple or Hanseswari Temple is a Hindu Temple of goddess Hangseswari (the goddess who came in a dream of Raja Nrisingha Deb Roy Mahasay) in the town of Bansberia at Hooghly District, Indian state of West Bengal. Bansberia is an industrial town positioned in between Bandel and Tribeni. Rani Hangseshwari was the mother of Raja Nrisingha Deb Roy, hence the deity is worshiped as Maa Hangseshwari. The deity is worshiped as a form of Maa Kali in Hindu mythology. The temple complex has another temple called Ananta Basudeba temple, besides the main temple. The Hangseshwari temple has a distinctive architecture different from the usual pattern present in this area, consisting 13 Minars or Ratnas, each built as a blooming lotus bud. The inner structure of the building resembles human anatomy. It was started by Raja Nrisingha Deb Roy Mahasay and later completed by his widow wife Rani Sankari in 1814.

Bandel Church: The Basilica of the Holy Rosary commonly known as Bandel Church. Around the middle of the 16th century, the Portuguese began using Bandel as a port. During or around 1571, they were given permission by Akbar, the Mughal emperor, to build a town in Hooghly. As they began settling around the area, their priests began to baptise the natives - by 1598, Catholics in Hooghly numbered around five thousand, including natives and mixed races. In 1579, the Portuguese built a port on the banks of the Hooghly, as well as a fort, and enlisted the services of a band of Augustinian Friars, then the largest religious body in Goa. The following year, Captain Pedro Tavares obtained the emperor's full permission to preach the Catholic faith publicly, and erect churches. Thus the Bandel Church came to be constructed in 1599. This first church was burnt down during the sacking of Hooghly by the Moors in 1632. A newer church, constructed by Gomez De Soto was built over the ruin in 1660.

Hooghly Imambara: Hooghly Imambara is a Shia Muslim congregation hall and mosque in Hooghly, West Bengal, India. The construction of the building was started by Muhammad Mohsin in 1841 and completed in 1861. The building is a two storied structure, with a tall clock tower over the entrance gate. The mosque has intricate designs and texts from Quran engraved on the wall. The interior of the mosque is decorated with marbles, candles and hanging lanterns. Hooghly Imambara is famous for its vaunted clock. It is at the middle of the twin towers constructed on the doorway of the main entrance. Each tower, having a height of approximately 150 ft., takes 152 steps to reach its top. The clock has two dials with three bells having weight 80 mds, 40 mds and 30 mds. Smaller bells ring at an interval of 15 minutes and bigger bell rings to signify one hour. The clock requires two people to wind it for half an hour of each week, with a key weighing 20 kg. It was bought for Rs. 11,721 (in 1852) by Syed Keramat Ali from the manufacturer: M/s Black & Hurray Co., Big Ben, London.

Chandannagar Strand: The tree-shaded promenade along the river is about 1 km (0.62 mi) in length and 7 metres (23 ft) in width, and there are many buildings of historical importance along the way. It is a popular spot for local people and tourists alike, who love to stroll along enjoying the breeze and watching the small boats sail by. Timings :- 10:30am to 4:50pm
This is a must-visit if you are planning to have a short visit to Chandannagar area, especially the French colony from Kolkata (কলকাতা).
You will experience the flavour of history there, if you are really interested in Cristian Architecture, you will be amused.
Overall this is an awesome place to spend some time. You will find a super historical feel with real peace of mind, and definitely the scenic beauty as add on.
Note: 25th December and 1st January church remain closed except Christians, but the Church ground remains open for all.
The prayer room also has restricted access during the prayer time, but it is accessible for half an hour after prayer ended.
Bandel Basilica holds a part of the rich Heritage of Bandel. A perfect place to find inner peace. In times of sorrow, sitting quietly in the Prayer Hall helps you connect to your inner spirit and find the courage to go ahead in life.
I have an awesome experience and a holy place you can find peace here especially the prayer Hall there are some restrictions but still its an amazing place and there are parks and many things to enjoy here..... Better visit on working days because you can stay here very peacefully... The best part is the Church will be opened 365 days a year including January 26 etc.
They're also bike parking!! You can find auto buses and many vehicles from here!! Inside phones are not allowed!! It was a good combination of historical and religious place!! And you can also use the bathrooms which are clear!!
Thanks

Bandel Church | Oldest church in India | Basilica of the Holy Rosary, Bandel
The Basilica of the Holy Rosary commonly known as Bandel Church is one of the oldest Christian churches in West Bengal, India. Situated in Bandel (the name came from the Bengali word বন্দর which means port)[1], Hooghly district of West Bengal, it stands as a memorial to the Portuguese settlement in Bengal. Founded in 1599, it is dedicated to Nossa Senhora do Rosário, Our Lady of the Rosary. It is also a parish church, part of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Calcutta.[1] It is one of the most prominent historical churches in West Bengal as well as in India.
Thus the Bandel Church came to be constructed in 1599.[3][4]
This first church was burnt down during the sacking of Hooghly by the Moors in 1632. A newer church, constructed by Gomez de Soto (also spelt John Comes de Soto), was built over the ruin in 1660. The keystone of the older church can still be seen on the eastern gate of the monastery, bearing the date 1599.[4][5]
On November 25, 1988, Pope John Paul II declared the sanctuary a minor basilica.
A ship's mast stands in front of the church; it was presented to the church by the captain of a vessel that had encountered a storm in the Bay of Bengal, and its rescue was attributed to Mary. The church has three altars, several tombstones, an organ, and a shrine to Mary.
St. Francis Church, in Kochi, Kerala, built in 1503, is the oldest European church in India[7][8]
St. Thomas supposedly built a small church, now known as St. Thomas Church at Palayur, a town now in Thrissur District, Kerala, around 52 AD. The Palayur church still stands at the same site and is considered the oldest church in India. But the wooden walls of the old church were destroyed with time. In the 17th century Reverend Fenichi enclosed the original church with a new outer building but the original altar consecrated by St. Thomas still remains at this site.
