Travel in China E02 My Journey on the Silk Road 游走中国 第二集 我的丝路
This is the 2nd episode of the documentary series Travel in China 游走中国 is a travel documentary that retraces the route taken by ancient Chinese people. The film crew drove along the ancient Silk Road from Xi’an to Tianshui, Lanzhou, Zhangye, Dunhuang and the Jiayu Pass. During the Han Dynasty (206 BCE-220 CE), Zhang Qian expanded the Road for imperial envoys and thus contributed to a giant leap in relations between China and countries in Central Asia. The production team traveled thousands of miles through the provinces of Shanxi and Gansu as well as the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, exploring the history of this ancient road and documenting its new look. This documentary examines a possible driving route for foreign visitors and serves as a promotional film for road trips in China.

The Silk Road of Zhangye, Exploring the Hexi Corridor of Gansu
Facebook: facebook.com/elevatedtrips/
Instagram: instagram.com/elevated_trips/
For centuries Gansu was a vital trade corridor between China and Central Asia. From Lanzhou a 1200-kilometer section of the Silk Road stretches through barren desert in the shadow of the Qilian Mountains to modern day Xinjiang – this is the Hexi Corridor. As proof of all the trade along this route, you will find numerous ancient monuments scattered along the entire Silk Road – temples buried in cliff faces, monasteries, pagodas, towers and ancient palaces. This area also holds the western most part of the Great Wall of China. This valley was once the sole western passage in and out of the Middle Kingdom and even today there is nothing else in all of China like this place. This is China like you have never seen it!

RAINBOW MOUNTAINS of CHINA: Why You Need To Visit Zhangye
China's Rainbow Mountains can be found in the Danxia Landform Geopark near the city of Zhangye. We took a day trip by train and spent the day exploring the different mountains and rock formations during the day and at sunset.

Here's a rundown of everything we did in Zhangye:
Getting the train from Xining to Zhangye - 0:57
The views from the train onto the Chinese countryside was pretty spectacular.
Hiring a private car for the day - 1:17
We met some other travellers in our hostel and decided to share a private car and driver to take us around for the day. This was also good as we had our big backpacks with us!
Exploring Danxia National GeoPark - 1:33
Looking around the more peaceful side of the park, which looks a lot like the national parks of Australia or the US. There are buses that you can get all around the park.
Visiting the Rainbow Mountains at Sunset - 3:07
Exploring the many boardwalks of the Danxia Landform GeoPark. The views are pretty spectacular, but you need to go and find the quieter spots.
Final Thoughts on the Rainbow Mountains - 4:19
Why I thought this was the best day we had in China: Expect the unexpected!

SILK ROAD - CHINA
HERE WE GO! This is a travel music video of my journey along China's epic Silk Road in December 2016. Please give it a thumbs up, share and subscribe!
Most of the footage is captured with a DJI Phantom Drone and the rest with either Canon DSLR or iPhone.
The route started in Lanzhou, Gansu province and then westwards to Urumqi mostly by high-speed train. The video loosely follows this route chronologically; so hopefully you'll enjoy being somewhat informed too! Any questions about these places, please ask.
---Lanzhou - One of China's largest cities
---Zhangye - Home to wetlands, plains, desert and mountains; we visited Binggou Canyon and Danxia rainbow mountains.
---Jiayuguan - site of the western most point of The Great Wall of China and Jiayuguan historic fort.
---Dunhuang - Here, the first spring - a crescent moon shaped oasis in the middle of a huge range of desert sand dunes.
---Turpan - Wine country! (Well, grapes).. and the epic flaming mountains, Turpan has one of the oldest underground irrigation systems which feeds water from the mountains to civilization.
---Urumqi - A huge sprawling city full of many ethnic minorities in China with very interesting food and a lot of police checks!
Obviously there were also a fair few small towns etc I don't know the name of. After this we went onto Georgia which will follow in a different video. Thanks for watching, love to all! X

I drove in Zhangye, Gansu, China. A very enjoyable Driving Trip!
Zhangye is a prefecture-level city in Gansu Province, China. It borders Inner Mongolia on the north and Qinghai on the south. It is located in the western part of Gansu province, midway through Hexi Corridor. As an important commercial port on the ancient Silk Road, Zhangye has rich historic sites and amazing natural sceneries. The famous tourist attractions in the city include the Wooden Pagoda Temple, Danxia National Geological Park, Bell and Drum Tower, Shandan Buddha Temple and Shandan Horse Farm, and Giant Buddha Temple.
