Huge thank you to Fadhlur for reaching out and taking us on a Malaysian street food tour of Kuala Lumpur. It was an amazing day, and I have so much love to Malaysia as it was one of the first countries where I started making street food videos - as you’ll see in the video!
Ok, here are all the street food stalls and restaurants we ate at on this tour:
Mansion Tea Stall
The thing to order here is the roti canai special, roti that chopped up, then doused in a variety of curry sauces, sambal, and a few soft boiled eggs. It’s a perfect way to begin your day in Kuala Lumpur. Price - 2.80 RM ($0.68) per plate
Nasi Lemak Tanglin
Nasi lemak is often considered the national food of Malaysia, and there are plenty of places to eat it throughout Kuala Lumpur. Having been around since 1948, Nasi Lemak Tanglin is a place I had wanted to go for a while. It was overall very good, with a nice laid back atmosphere and surrounded by nature. Nasi lemak - about 8 RM ($1.94) per plate
Ikan Bakar Seri Melaka (Jalan Bellamy)
One of my favorite places to eat ikan bakar, grilled fish, is on Jalan Bellamy. Back in 2012, I had to hike over a highway and climb a few fences to get there as I was only on foot. In this video, I’m a bit older, and we had a car! The ikan bakar was just as good as I remember it. Total price - 68 RM ($16.51) for everything
Sri Ganapathi Mess
One of the best things about Malaysian food is its incredible diversity, including Malay, Chinese, and Indian food. Banana leaf south Indian food is very popular and I was recommended to try Sri Ganapathi Mess, a restaurant tucked away into a home. An amazing south Indian food experience in Kuala Lumpur. Price - 59 RM ($14.32) for 4 people
Kedai Kopi Lai Foong
Finally, another dish that many had recommended me was the unique clam noodles in Kuala Lumpur Chinatown at the legendary Kedai Kopi Lai Foong. It was delicious, and a perfect way to end an amazing Malaysian street food tour in Kuala Lumpur. Price - 10 RM ($2.43) per bowl
Again, thank you to Oh My Media Malaysia for taking us around:

Sarapan Enak di Kuala Lumpur || Malaysian Breakfast
Breakfast in Malaysia
Nasi Campur is normal, everyday Malaysian food.
Yet even though it may be common and nothing out of the ordinary, somehow a meal of nasi campur is one of the most satisfying meals I can think of… in the world.
Ever since my first experience with nasi campur in Indonesia, I’ve been an addict.
Perhaps because it’s often setup as a buffet – a self service meal where you’re handed a plate of rice and it’s up to you to navigate the buffet line and pile on whatever looks most tempting.
But unlike a buffet, nasi campur is normally just a single plate meal deal.
Of course, one could pay for an extra plate of food, but without paying extra you can’t just keep returning to the buffet.
This is a good thing.
I know if nasi campur in Malaysia was a one-price-all-you-can-eat kind of thing, I would hardly be able to control myself.
Just one plate, piled high, is perfect.

It doesn’t matter whether you’ve lived in Kuala Lumpur your entire life, become a naturalized KLite or visited the city often enough that you think you’ve tried everything – there’s always something new cropping up in this dynamic capital.
In our newest video series, “Traveloka Travel Guide” we’ll be covering the top things to see and do – and eat! – In various destinations across Malaysia that aren’t exactly mainstream. Our first stop is Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia’s crowning jewel. So if you’re stuck on what to do in Kuala Lumpur, then today’s your lucky day.
Usually, when an individual mentions Kuala Lumpur, you think of the Menara KL Tower and Petronas Towers. This time round though, we’re looking to explore equally awesome places to visit in Kuala Lumpur that not everyone may know about.
1) KL Bird Park (0:50-2:21)
First up is KL Bird Park. Known as the “World’s Largest Free-flight Walk-in Aviary” and home to more than 200 species of local and foreign birds, this is a Kuala Lumpur attraction you don’t want to miss.
2) Hornbill Restaurant & Café (2:22-3:05)
Stop by the Hornbill Restaurant & Café while you’re in KL Bird Park to chow down on some delicious food and fulfil your appetite from all that walking.
3) Perdana Botanical Garden (3:06-4:51)
Another great place to visit in Kuala Lumpur is the Perdana Botanical Garden. Besides being a gorgeous park, it also has a deer park, a couple of playgrounds and bicycles you can rent. If you feel like it, you could bring your own equipment and play a little frisbee or football with your pals. The best part about this place is that it’s free!
4) Restoran Rebung By Dato Chef Ismail (4:52-6:59)
Right next to the Perdana Botanical Garden is Restoran Rebung By Dato Chef Ismail, so if you’re yearning for some top-notch traditional Malay cuisine buffet to fill your belly, stop by the restaurant and give it a try. With awesome dishes like Ikan Bakar (grilled fish), Rendang Ayam (chicken rendang) and Asam Pedas Ikan Pari (spicy stingray), you’ll probably want to return to the Perdana Botanical Garden to burn some calories. The lunch buffet is priced at RM40.00 while the dinner buffet is priced at RM50.00.
5) River of Life (7:00-7:59)
Next up on our Kuala Lumpur sightseeing trip is the River of Life. Once a polluted waterway, it is now a tourist attraction. While nice to visit in the day, the junction where the rivers meet at the city’s oldest mosque, Masjid Jamek Sultan Abdul Samad, is best seen at night. During the night, the riverside becomes a magical place filled with breathtaking visuals and sensory experience with fog and lighting effects.
6) The Hulo Hotel & Gallery (8:00-10:02)
Catch some shut-eye at The Hulo Hotel & Gallery, where you’ll be surrounded by beautiful works of art created by Malaysian artists to showcase their work. Located in Bukit Bintang, you can easily reach other popular Kuala Lumpur attractions such as Berjaya Times Square and Bintang Walk, KL’s premier shopping district. Rates for the Premium King Room is RM200- 220.
7) myBatik (10:04-11:53)
Attempt to master the intricate traditional art of batik painting with myBatik, one of Kuala Lumpur’s top cultural hubs. Interested visitors can sign up for various batik painting workshops. Price for Batik Colouring & Waxing is RM53 while the price for T-shirt Painting Workshop is RM127.
8) That Latte Place (11:55-13:11)
Relax and enjoy a cup of hot latte (RM9) at this hidden gem just off Jalan Ampang. If you’re feeling a bit peckish, try their Croque Chicken Sandwich (RM13), Breakfast Plate (RM18) or Turkish-style Poached Eggs (RM12).
9) Aquaria KLCC (13:12-15:13)
This Kuala Lumpur attraction is home to over 150 species of marine life. There are 12 exhibits for you to learn more about the wonders of our oceans. To witness sharks being fed, be at the Aquatheatre by 3pm on Mondays, Wednesdays or Saturdays. Price of admission for visitors with MyKad is RM49 for adults, RM 39 for children and RM39 for senior citizens. Price for standard admission is RM69 for adults, RM59 for children and RM49 for senior citizens.
10) Tapak Urban Street Dining (15:14-17:25)
Tapak Urban Street Dining is a KL food truck park serving many types of savoury snacks and dishes from 6pm to 12am. From local and fusion to Mexican and Western food, they have it all. Prices are reasonable with food like Pad Krapow Daging and Salted Egg Chicken selling for RM8 and RM10 respectively.
MALAYSIAN STREET FOOD HEAVEN Night Market JALAN ALOR, Kuala Lumpur
Hosting a lot of hawker stalls and seafood restaurants, Jalan Alor is one of the most famous roads in Kuala Lumpur for food. Located just behind Jalan Bukit Bintang and a short walk away from Changkat Bukit Bintang, it is a favourite after-clubbing dining spot in the Golden Triangle area.
Though the seafood at the air-conditioned restaurants is really good and inexpensive, we highly recommend the hawker food. KL being an immigrant city, the variety of food available is amazing and in Jalan Alor the barbecued meats, noodles and desserts are some of the best (and cheapest) in the city. Most of these dishes cannot be found in fashion-conscious restaurants – and even if they are, they are rarely as tasty, so hawker stalls are a favourite on the city’s foodie scene.
Called the cultural hearth of the city’s local cuisine, tourists rarely venture here largely because of its ‘hidden’ location. A sharp contrast to trendy Jalan Bukit Bintang and Changkat Bukit Bintang, Jalan Alor has a traditional charm to it with atmospheric air-conditioned Chinese seafood restaurants, bright fluorescent restaurant signage lighting and mini red Chinese lanterns strung up in the trees. But it is also a tad messy because of the seemingly-endless row of hawker stalls set up on the five-foot walkway, with plastic tables and chairs spilling out onto the road.
Sure, the food is the main draw but the atmosphere is also truly memorable. The place stays loud and vibrant throughout the night with vendors furiously fanning grills of chicken and beef skewers, the metallic clang of frying woks and the air is thick with charcoal smoke.
At the food stalls food is cooked in a furious fashion (with delicious smells coming from the frying woks and boiling pots) and served on plastic plates in a rainbow of colours. Most hawker stalls have picture menus, making ordering simple.
We suggest you grab a table somewhere in front of Restoran Dragon View at the top of the street and then walk along and order your dishes from the diverse range of hawkers. We recommend the fried oyster egg from Restoran Wong Ah Wah: a thin and crispy omelette with plump and briny oysters that is served with fresh coriander leaves and accompanied by a chilli sauce that gives it a tangy, spicy kick. Or even the smoky-flavoured satay (marinated chicken tenderloin) from Terminal Sate Zul and grilled chicken wings in a simple soy marinade with chicken rice and roasted barbecue pork from Restoran Meng Kee Grill Fish.
The easiest way to get here is via monorail: alight at the Bukit Bintang stop and head north along Jalan Bukit Bintang: from there Jalan Alor is a one-minute walk.

Kuala Lumpur is the gateway to Malaysia and also a popular transit point for South East Asia. This capital city offers a variety of experiences for travelers and tourists. It has lucious greeneries with wild life parks and prominent multi cultural society that made Malaysia Truly Asia.
We start our journey to the Kuala Lumpur Sentral Station utilizing the Light Rail Transit train system. This central hub connects various train systems that may take you to different parts of the country and neighboring cities. The Nu Sentral Mall is adjacent to this station for traveler's conveniences.
Just right outside of the station is the popular streets of Little India. A must visit place to experience the sight, sound and smell of the Indian community that has been residing in the country before independence. A colourful and vibrant part of the city with plenty of dining and shopping oppurtunity.
We stop by for lunch at Sri Nirvana Maju at Bangar for their local favourite Banana Leaf Rice. Apart from the delicious food being served, it offers a unique dining experience as you get to see the whole meal being constructed right on your table in front of you. You may pick selections of gravy and side dishes to your liking.
With our belly filled, we make our way to check in at Nomad Residences Bangsar. Located at a quint residencial area of Bangsar, it provides studio and suites accommodations from daily to monthly rental. We stayed at their 1 Bedroom Premier Suite that comes with a living room and Full service Kitchen.
For dinner, we make our way to KL's famous nightspot Telawi Streets. There are rows of shops that houses various eateries, pubs, evening entertainment and shopping malls. We find ourselves having a table at Yeast Bistronomy. A french restaurant with freshly house made breads and patries, a must dine-in restaurant when you are at Bangsar.
In the Morning, We check out the Kuala Lumpur Bird Park. It has an impressive free flight zone tropical rainforest where all the wildlife are able to roam free and interact with visitors. A massive park with plenty of educational values where you may spend the whole day learning about birds and their habitat.
