Sir Thomas Wyatt I am as I am Poem animation
Heres a virtual movie of the 16th century English poet Sir Thomas Wyatt reading his great poem I am as I am.
Sir Thomas Wyatt (1503[1] -- 11 October 1542[1]) was a 16th-century English lyrical poet credited with introducing the sonnet into English.[2] He was born at Allington Castle, near Maidstone in Kent -- though his family was originally from Yorkshire. His mother was Anne Skinner and his father, Henry Wyatt, had been one of Henry VII's Privy Councillors, and remained a trusted adviser when Henry VIII came to the throne in 1509. In his turn, Thomas Wyatt followed his father to court after his education at St John's College, Cambridge. None of Wyatt's poems were published during his lifetime—the first book to feature his verse was printed a full fifteen years after his death.
Wyatt's professed object was to experiment with the English tongue, to civilise it, to raise its powers to those of its neighbours.[5] Although a significant amount of his literary output consists of translations of sonnets by the Italian poet Petrarch, he wrote sonnets of his own. Wyatt's sonnets first appeared in Tottle's Miscellany, now on exhibit in the British Library in London.
In addition to imitations of works by the classical writers Seneca and Horace, he experimented in stanza forms including the rondeau, epigrams, terza rima, ottava rima songs, satires and also with monorime, triplets with refrains, quatrains with different length of line and rhyme schemes, quatrains with codas, and the French forms of douzaine and treizaine [6] in addition to introducing contemporaries to his poulter's measure form (Alexandrine couplets of twelve syllable iambic lines alternating with a fourteener, fourteen syllable line).[7] and is acknowledged a master in the iambic tetrameter.[8]
While Wyatt's poetry reflects classical and Italian models, he also admired the work of Chaucer and his vocabulary reflects Chaucer's (for example, his use of Chaucer's word newfangleness, meaning fickle, in They flee from me that sometime did me seek). His best-known poems are those that deal with the trials of romantic love. Others of his poems were scathing, satirical indictments of the hypocrisies and flat-out pandering required of courtiers ambitious to advance at the Tudor court.

Sir Thomas Wyatt They flee from me Poem animation
Heres a virtual movie of the 16th century English poet Sir Thomas Wyatt reading his exquisite enigmatic conspiratorial poem They flee from me . The poem alludes to the need at the time for certain thoughts and Liaisons be they politicaL religious or of the amorous kind to be kept in the realms of the clandestine in an age where just a few Unguarded words uttered in the wrong place in a world where religious and political intolerance was the norm could easily have led to a quick and brutal execution.Wyatts own Son was to fall prey to this he ended up being executed having become involved in a political conspiracy after the death of his father the poet. This as with most of Wyatts works was not even published during his lifetime. All Though Some of his poems did find circulation amongst the Aristocracy shortly after his death.

They flee from me................
They flee from me that sometime did me seek,
With naked foot stalking in my chamber.
I have seen them gentle, tame, and meek
That are now wild and do not remember
That sometime they put themselves in danger
To take bread at my hand; and now they range
Busily seeking with a continual change.
Thanked be fortune, it hath been otherwise
Twenty times better; but once in special,
In thin array after a pleasant guise,
When her loose gown did from her shoulders did fall,
And she me caught in her arms long and small,
Therewithall sweetly did me kiss,
And softly said, Dear heart, how like you this?
It was no dream, I lay broad waking.
But all is turned thorough my gentleness,
Into a strange fashion of forsaking;
And I have leave to go of her goodness,
And she also to use newfangleness.
But since that I so kindly am served,
I would fain know what she hath deserved

Aurora Pets Visits Mote Park Maidstone
In our Out and About blog we explore the most beautiful and best places to walk your dog in the UK. We begin our journey of the best dog walks in Kent.
Located in Maidstone, Kent this is a beautiful area to walk your dog and spend time with your family and friends! The landscape is vast and offers many different views as you walk.
We have been to this park on several occasions and never get bored! There is a path which leads you to walk the full size of the park; with other routes that offer a shorter walk if you prefer. The paths are perfect if it has been raining and you forgot to bring your wellies (we are sure the weather report said it wouldn’t rain that day!)
On our latest walk in Mote Park we were lucky as it was not as muddy, so forgetting the wellies was not such a disaster! It was a little nippy though, so coats for all! We decided to take the long walk through the park, which led us past the lake and up through open fields where we could look over most of the park. There are always plenty of other dog owners walking their dogs, great for Yianni as he never passes up the opportunity for a meet and great!
As we walked we came across Mote house which is located in the park grounds. This mansion house and grounds are full of history! In 1370 the Woodville family purchased Mote Park. Elizabeth Woodville then married King Edward IV in 1464, which resulted in the Park becoming a possession of the Royal family. Victoria gave birth to The Princess In The Tower with her story being featured in the BBC series - The White Queen.
The Woodville family claimed the land until it was sold to Sir Henry Wyatt of Allington Castle in 1492, who handed the land over to his grandson Sir Thomas Wyatt in 1524. The land was returned to the crown under Queen Elizabeth following the beheading of Sir Thomas Wyatt. The Parkland was then passed and sold to several other families until it was sold to the Maidstone Borough Council in 1929, where it was used for several different uses i.e. an orphanage for the Caldecott Foundation, the British Armed Forces as a headquarters and training facility for the mainland invasion etc.
The Mansion house has now been converted into a stunning, modern retirement village.
We ended our walk around the lake, which dogs are allowed to go into and plenty take this opportunity to do so. Yianni is not a massive lover of water, so he remained by our side watching and looking confused at what they were doing!
This park not only offers a great experience for your furry friend, it also has a lot to offer us, humans, too! On-site is:
Large Play Park at the main entrance. Smaller play park located at opposite end of the main entrance
Café offering food, drinks and ice cream.
30-acre lake with a Watersports Centre offering a variety of boating, sailing, and diving on the lake. You can try out rowing and windsurfing or just get the family into a pedalo swan to explore.
Fishing docks around the lake for a day of fishing (you will need to apply for a daily permit to fish and you will need your rod licence to buy a permit. The service is managed by Maidstone Victory Angling and Medway Preservation Society.)
The model railway which costs only 30p per ride! This runs every Sunday during British Summer Time and on Boxing Day from 9:30 am to 5 pm.
You may even see model boats speeding around part of the lake on your visit!
As well as this the park also is host to several events throughout the year (Oktoberfest, Radio 1 big weekend etc.), so be sure to check the events schedule for any you may want to attend -
When we finished our walk we had built up an appetite, so went on the hunt for somewhere to eat that allows dogs. In the summer this is not so much of a problem because most places are fine with eating in the garden with a dog in tow.
After a quick search, we found The Potting Shed in Maidstone, which was only about a 10-minute drive from the park - and how glad we were to find it! You are able to take your dog inside and eat at a table in the bar area.
The service was excellent and the food was fabulous! We would advise calling ahead as you can reserve a table in the bar area so that you are sure to get a spot! Their website offers a booking service but this is for the restaurant and not the bar area if you are taking your dog. If you are going in the warmer weather, they have a large garden for you to dine in the sunshine.
We hope that you can make the trip out to this walk and enjoy it as much as we do!

Old House Project: St Andrews house tour
St Andrews, the site of the SPAB's Old House Project, has had a colourful and fascinating history: it has housed a relic of St Andrew, been in possession of the Tudor poet Thomas Wyatt, and acted as the community post office in the 20th century.
Over the course of the project the SPAB will work with Historic England, Kent Archaeological Society and the local council to uncover more of the building’s story and to bring St Andrew’s back to life.
As the building has remained untouched since the 1960s, it still has some charming features from its last decoration in the 1930s. Characterful tiled 1930s fireplaces, original lino and wooden block flooring sit alongside medieval stone door surrounds, Tudor windows and original timber frames.
Take a tour with SPAB director, Matthew Slocombe.
A free project book will be published on the SPAB website as the project progresses, allowing anyone interested in embarking on a similar venture to learn as the SPAB Old House Project goes along: spab.org.uk

SUMMARY
=======
Kent is a county in South East England and one of the home counties. It borders Greater London to the north-west, Surrey to the west and East Sussex to the south-west. The county also shares borders with Essex along the estuary of the River Thames (connected by land via High Speed 1 and the Dartford Crossing), and with the French department of Pas-de-Calais through the Channel Tunnel. The county town is Maidstone.
Canterbury Cathedral in Kent has been the seat of the Archbishop of Canterbury, leader of the Church of England, since the Reformation. Prior to that it was built by Catholics, dating back to the conversion of England to Catholicism by Saint Augustine that began in the 6th century. Before the English Reformation the cathedral was part of a Benedictine monastic community known as Christ Church, Canterbury, as well as being the seat of the Catholic Archbishop of Canterbury. The last Catholic Archbishop of Canterbury was Reginald Pole. Rochester Cathedral is also in Kent, in Medway. It is the second-oldest cathedral in England, with Canterbury Cathedral being the oldest. Between London and the Strait of Dover, which separates it from mainland Europe, Kent has seen both diplomacy and conflict, ranging from the Leeds Castle peace talks of 1978 and 2004 to the Battle of Britain in World War II.
England relied on the county's ports to provide warships through much of its history; the Cinque Ports in the 12th–14th centuries and Chatham Dockyard in the 16th–20th centuries were of particular importance. France can be seen clearly in fine weather from Folkestone and the White Cliffs of Dover. Hills in the form of the North Downs and the Greensand Ridge span the length of the county and in the series of valleys in between and to the south are most of the county's 26 castles.
Because of its relative abundance of fruit-growing and hop gardens, Kent is known as The Garden of England.Kent's economy is greatly diversified; haulage, logistics, and tourism are major industries. In northwest Kent industries include extraction of aggregate building materials, printing and scientific research. Coal mining has also played its part in Kent's industrial heritage. Large parts of Kent are within the London commuter belt and its strong transport connections to the capital and the nearby continent make Kent a high-income county. Twenty-eight per cent of the county forms part of two Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty: the North Downs and The High Weald.
