SUMMARY
=======
The Snowy Mountains scheme or Snowy scheme is a hydroelectricity and irrigation complex in south-east Australia. The Scheme consists of sixteen major dams; seven power stations; one pumping station; and 225 kilometres (140 mi) of tunnels, pipelines and aqueducts that were constructed between 1949 and 1974. The Scheme was completed under the supervision of Chief Engineer, Sir William Hudson and is the largest engineering project undertaken in Australia.The water of the Snowy River and some of its tributaries, much of which formerly flowed southeast onto the river flats of East Gippsland, and into Bass Strait of the Tasman sea, is captured at high elevations and diverted inland to the Murray and Murrumbidgee Rivers irrigation areas, through two major tunnel systems driven through the Continental Divide of the Snowy Mountains, known in Australia as the Great Dividing Range. The water falls 800 metres (2,600 ft) and travels through large hydro-electric power stations which generate peak-load power for the Australian Capital Territory, New South Wales and Victoria. The Scheme also provides some security of water flows to the Murray-Darling basin, providing approximately 2,100 gigalitres (7.4×1010 cu ft) of water a year to the basin for use in Australia’s irrigated agriculture industry.
In 2016, the Snowy Mountains Scheme was added to the Australian National Heritage List.

Title reads: Water To Cover Old Town. Australian voiceovered newsreel material.
Jindabyne, Australia.
VS In large valley the old town of Jindabyne with its broken down buildings which will soon be flooded by water. A large lake from a dam will cover the whole area. VS The towns' people celebrate the flooding by dressing up in old costumes and fooling about. VS New modern houses and a church in the town of New Jindabyne which is near the old town but further up the valley.
(Comb. F.G.) Old record suggests material dates from around 30/05/1967.

Ghost town
A ghost town is an abandoned village, town or city, usually one which contains substantial visible remains. A town often becomes a ghost town because the economic activity that supported it has failed, or due to natural or human-caused disasters such as floods, government actions, uncontrolled lawlessness, war, or nuclear disasters. The term can sometimes refer to cities, towns, and neighborhoods which are still populated, but significantly less so than in years past; for example those affected by high levels of unemployment and dereliction.
Some ghost towns, especially those that preserve period-specific architecture, have become tourist attractions. Some examples are Bannack, Montana; Calico, California; Centralia, Pennsylvania; and Oatman, Arizona in the United States; Barkerville, British Columbia in Canada; Craco in Italy; Elizabeth Bay and Kolmanskop in Namibia; and Pripyat in Ukraine. Visiting, writing about, and photographing ghost towns is a minor industry. A recent modern-day example is Ōkuma, Fukushima, which was abandoned due to the 2011 Japan earthquake and tsunami incident.

BMW F800GT CABRAMURRA TO TUMUT RIVER
Riding through the amazing New South Wales Snowy Mountains heading south. This ride is down Goat Ridge Road from the Cabramurra turn-off (riding in on the Link Road from Adaminaby) to the Tumut River ponds. Cabramurra is the third highest permanently occupied town in Australia. The road down is quite steep at times (definitely not appreciated on the GoPro), it is narrow and blind bends need to be treated with great respect - but oh what a ride! See the ride back up the other side along Elliot Way on another of my BMW F800GT videos. Touring, loaded up, riding safe - Ride to Survive Old Man!
