PARQUE NATURAL DE SOMIEDO - ASTURIAS (ESPAÑA - SPAIN)
The Somiedo Nature Reserve was awarded the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve designation in 2000. The landscape in Somiedo is typical of the ecosystems in the Cordillera Cantábrica range. This reserve is well known especially because it is home to one of Europe's largest populations of free-roaming brown bears.

Second day of my trip to Somiedo Natural Park, in Asturias. I go on a hike to the Saliencia Lakes (Lagos de Saliencia), a beautiful spot up in the mountains. And then I drive through the park. I didn't get the best light, but I'm still glad I got to see and know the place. I'll definitely be coming back later this summer.

Walking through Somiedo Natur Park Asturias Spain
It was a great day walking through the Mountains. Even got to see Yogi Bear and his friends.
PARQUE NATURAL DE SOMIEDO. Documental
A Piece of Somiedo
Not as famous and well known as Picos de Europa, the Somiedo Natural Park (a 2h30m drive from the first) also has a magnificent mountain scenery, beautiful lakes and breathtaking natural beauty.
Probably the fact that it is less well known and not as trendy is what makes the asturian essence stronger and more noticeable in Somiedo, making it more genuine and true.
The images were captured during a four days trip (August 2014) in this beautiful place located in Northern Spain, the video took about a year to assemble (very slowly).
No fancy gear or careful planning, just a couple of cameras (Canon G12 and Samsung NX100) and a motorized telescope head (Skywatcher Acuter Merlin) controlled by an early version of the RoMotion software (facebook.com/romotion.diy).

Somiedo - Walking in Spirit
walkinginspirit.co.uk
Asturias is one of the least well known Spanish province and is, without doubt, the most beautiful and ideal place for those seeking a peaceful spiritual retreat and nature at its purest. Within Asturias, Parque Natural de Somiedo stands out as one of the most pristine and preserved areas, not just in Spain, but in all western Europe. It is a lush, green and fertile landscape of ancient beech and oak forests, interspersed with rivers, rushing streams and wild flower meadows
The culture of Asturias continues the livestock grazing tradition of the neolithic Celts and has a familiar feel for people from northern and mountainous regions of Europe.
This stretch of the Cantabrian Mountains has the largest population of brown bears in western Europe and this animal has become emblematic of Somiedo Natural Park but, equally exciting are the four wolf packs, the herds of red deer, chamois, boar, wild cats, lizards, salamanders and many exotic birds including vultures and eagles.
Although it is extremely rare to see a bear, a boar or a wolf, the other animals and birds mentioned can be seen daily in the park. In early summer the abundant wild flowers bloom and the air fills with the buzzing sounds of insects. Scat and prints of bears and wolves are likely to be found when walking in the wilder parts of the park. One of the great pleasures of walking in Somiedo is finding signs of the animals that live here. Laura and Frankie will be happy to share what they know about how to recognise them.
Come to your senses: Somiedo is a nourishing feast for all the senses! Ground your awareness in your living sensation, come to your senses and let nature guide you.
