Day Trip to Sorrento, Italy Travel Guide Video Transcript:
Considered the official start of the Amalfi Coast, the cliff-perched town of Sorrento makes for a quick and easy day trip. We caught the train in Pompei at Villa dei Misteri and took the Circumvesuviana line all the way down the coast. Our plan for the day? To eat and wander around without much of an itinerary.
Since we were visiting just before the holidays, the streets were decked out with all sorts of Christmas decorations. We befriended a few dogs along the way, and then we found a spot to indulge in coffees and pastries.
After walking through the town, we started making our way down to the waterfront, more specifically, to Marina Grande. This harbour is line with pastel-coloured buildings, boats bobbing in the water, and lots of seafood restaurants.
After walking the length of the marina and browsing through menus, we finally settled on a restaurant for lunch: Zi’Ntonio Mare.
Making our way back to town, we also attempted to visit Sorrento Cathedral, but we arrived outside of opening hours so here’s a quick look from the exterior.
From there, we continued down some of Sorrento’s pedestrian-friendly side streets, which were lined with small shops and outdoor produce stalls. Limoncello seemed to be by far the most popular souvenir, so if you’re looking for a taste of the famed lemon liqueur, this is a good place to stock up!
Our last stop of the day were the Cloisters of San Francis, where there was a small art exhibition taking place. These cloisters are also located in small park with great views of the coastline and the Mediterranean Sea, so we enjoyed the views one last time and then it was time to head back.
This is part of our Travel in Italy video series showcasing Italian food, Italian culture and Italian cuisine.

SORRENTO TRAVEL GUIDE (Amalfi Coast)
Thinking of travelling to Sorrento? I visited with my family in July 2017, here's a guide of great things you could do...
The weather was absolutely perfect while we were there, but not what we are used to. We were surprised that the Italian food wasn't as good as we were expecting, for example I ordered a tomato pasta and literally got raw tomatoes on a bed of pasta covered in oil... WHAT?
One tip for drone pilots: the seagulls are crazy there so when flying your drone watch out for them! I had a flock of about 60 all swooping down trying to take out my drone, so stay away from the drone killers!
We stayed in the amazing Hotel Miramare:
One day we decided to rent a boat and sail across to Capri, this was definitely the best thing we did. The views were incredible and our captain Damiano told us all about the history of Capri which was interesting.
Here's the company we used:
We also rented kayaks from this company:

Sorrento is a small town in Campania, southern Italy, with some 16,500 inhabitants. It is a popular tourist destination which can be reached easily from Naples and Pompeii, as it lies at the south-eastern end of the Circumvesuviana rail line. Sorrento Tour - What to see on a 1 day trip
How to get to Sorrento in Italy and what you can see on holiday in 1 day.
About Sorrento: Sorrento is a town overlooking the Bay of Naples in southern Italy.
It’s within sight of Mount Vesuvius, the only active volcano in mainland Europe.
A popular tourist destination, Sorrento is easy to reach from Naples airport by bus.
Or you can take the Circumvesuviana railway, passing Herculaneum and Pompeii on the way.
My video of what to see in Positano is here (3m10s):
My video of what to see in Capri is here (3m33s):
You can see my Pompeii tour video here (9m06s):
And you can see my Herculaneum tour video here (7m56s):
There are also ferries across the bay to Sorrento’s Marina Piccola.
You can catch ferries from here to the islands of Capri and Ischia as well as back to Naples .
Summer services also run around the Amalfi coastline.
Piazza Tasso, the main square, is a great place to stay.
We stayed at Maison d’Art overlooking the square. It’s a small B&B with friendly staff, free wif-fi AND free cake and a good breakfast.
The elegant cafés in Piazza Tasso, such as the Fauno Bar, are great places to relax and watch the world go by.
Piazza Tasso was named after the 16th century poet Torquato Tasso.
Sorrento is busy with traffic and people all day, even in April, when this film was shot.
and the locals like to weave through the narrow streets on motorbikes and scooters.
Of course, if you fancy something more sedate there are horse-drawn carriages for hire.
The fishing village , Marina Grande, is a great spot to relax away from the busy town centre.
Restaurants, homes and shops rise along the seafront, yet the village has maintained its rustic charm, original identity, and a sense of community.
There's a cottage industry approach toMarina Grande's ancient and primary source of survival, which is fishing.
Plenty of orange trees adorn Sorrento’s streets.
In fact, the cuisine here is big on citrus fruit as well as fish, pizza and pasta.
The varieties of lemon grown around Sorrento date back to Roman times and locals believe that their lemons are the best in the world.
The local liqueur, limoncello, is made from the zest of Sorrento lemons.
Lemons can grow impressively big in these parts too!
Of course, you can buy products from all over Italy here in Sorrento.
Glass is from the Venetian island of Murano, for example.
Or locally produced ceramics.
And Sorrento’s renowned inlaid woodwork.
There are also shops selling a huge variety of leather bags
and stylish shoes and sandals are available at good prices too.
Italy is a Catholic nation and, as you walk around Sorrento, you can see a number of shrines to the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Before you leave Sorrento, be sure to check out the Valley of the Mills, just behind Piazza Tasso.
The mill area was isolated from the sea by the construction of Piazza Tasso, which raised the humidity in the valley to unbearable levels and caused the mills in the valley to be abandoned in 1866.
Finally, as day becomes evening you can experience the nighttime ritual of la passeggiata.
As Italians dress up for a gentle stroll through the main streets of the old town, it’s a chance to see and be seen.

SORRENTO, ITALY-Gateway to the Amalfi Coast and Capri
While Sorrento is a great home base for day trips to the Amalfi Coast and Capri, it's a beautiful, quaint city/town in its own right. You get amazing views of the Bay of Naples from high above and the sunsets are awesome. Sorrento is a great town to just walk around and explore the various restaurants and shops and to people watch. And yes, it's easy to catch the ferry to Capri and to take a day trip to see the beautiful Amalfi Coast. All in all, definitely worth a visit here.

Travel Guide to Sorrento, Italy
Sorrento, is a small town in Campania, southern Italy and a popular tourist destination that can be reached easily from Naples and Pompeii by ferry or hydrofoil.
Well-known for the production of limoncello, the city also produces products such as citrus fruits, wine, nuts and olives while wood craftmanship is also developed.
From the port of Sorrento you can venture out on traditional boats, explore the coastline and seabed for organized day and night excursions.
Due to the small roads, driving is not generally advised, so it's better to just walk around town, rent a bike or take the bus.
Historic Italian architecture can be seen in several beautiful churches around town. One of the must-visit places is the Sorrento Cathedral and Belltower, a 15th century Romanesque church containing many paintings from the 18th century.

Hey guys and welcome to my channel ☀️
I hope you are having a great day. Some of you have requested that I post more of the travel videos and I have decided to share my recent experience traveling to Italy, Amalfi Coat with you.
We went to Sorrento, Capri, Pompei, climbed to the top of Mount Vesuvius (The Vulcano that destroyed Pompei) and Positano.
When I was editing this vlog, I realised one thing, how much I love traveling. I love discovering new places, meeting new people, trying new food and learning more about the culture and history. Somehow traveling makes me feel more happy, alive and my best self. Every time I come back from a Long holiday, I discover this energy in me, that I didn’t realise existed. I become more creative, productive at work and generally feel a lot happier. I need it to maintain this fire and peace within me. Maybe I should quickly go and book another holiday, to have something to look forward to haha ???? It is so important to go away and recharge batteries once in a while.
What is your favourite destination and where would you like to travel next?
If you like my content, please consider subscribing to my channel.
Have a great day and I will see you next time!
