Durga Parameswari Temple in Kateel (Karnataka)
From Moodubidiri we went to Kateel. Kateel is famous for Durga Parameswari temple. Kateel is about 25 kms from Moodubidiri, 28 kms from Mangalore, 40 kms from Karkal, 45 kms from Udupi, 75 kms from Dharmasthal, 150 kms from Kukke Subramanya and 100 kms from Sringeri. There are temple buildings in Kateel where you can get accommodation at concessional rate (say 100/- per day).
The temple of Durga Parameswari is located on a small island in the middle of river Nandini. From the main entrance on the roadside you have to walk on a small bridge to cross the river in order to reach the temple. The river Nandini flows on all sides off the temple. You can see the mighty flow of water in the river during rainy season. The main diety of the temple is Durga Parameswari. Apart from that there are other deities like Shivva, Ganesh and Subramanya in the temple.
There is also another bridge on the other side of the temple to cross the river and go to the other side of the river. From the bridge you can see the beautiful views of the river and the temple sorroundings. On the other side of the river there is elephant shed. You can see the temple elephant there. The video shows how we touched the elephant and enjoyed its activities for long time.
The other attraction of Kateel is the Dining Hall. Like Dharmasthala and Sringeri, here also every devotee is given free lunch and dinner. In the video you can see how the food is served on banana leaves. Apart from rice, sambar, curry, butter milk there was a sweet dish at the end. The food was tasty and we enjoyed it a lot. Thousands of devotees take free food here on every day. This was a great religious point in our Karnataka temple tour.
