Goddess Indrani Devi:
Indrani is the consort (wife) of Lord Indra and also the queen of Gods. According to the ancient Vedic, she was just a female shadow of him. Goddess Indrani was the daughter of cruel demon Puloman who later killed by lord Indra. Indrani was the essence of beauty with one thousand eyes. By the Rig Veda, Indrani is considered to be the luckiest female for her husband who was approved immortality. By the Taittiriya Brahman, Indra desires Indrani as his wife from a number of challenging goddesses simply because of her captivating voluptuous attractions. Some times Indrani is referred as the goddess of anger and latterly in Hindu analysis; her happening personifying jealousy & evil objective. Indrani was position as one of the nine astral deities who were the uppermost of gods in south. The Vahana of the Goddess Indrani was either the lion or the elephant. Goddess Indrani is also known as Sachi and Aindri.

History of this temple in detail :
Legend has it that Moon had to do penance here by meditating upon shiva to get rid of curse given by his father- in -law (to loose brightness/shine) for not giving equal attention to all his 27
daughters (nakhshtras),Lord Shiva lifted the partial curse and hence waning and waxing of moon over a fortnight. As per devotees belief Chandramouleeshwara linga changes it colors thrice (black in morning, blue in noon and white at night ).
This temple is about 6 feet below ground level and built in Kerala style wooden architecture.

Horekanike Meravanige (Procession) of Bennekudru Kulamahastri Amma temple (16th Dec 2011)
Horekanike means Collection of donations(Hore : bundle, Kanike: gift) made by devotes mainly in the form of food items (Like rice and other grains, fruits, oil, Jaggery, sugar etc) at times it contains gold ornaments, items used in worship, Electronic items, money etc. Meravanige means procession. In a Horekanike Meravanige all the contributions made by devotes belonging to different villages are brought to the destination (usually a temple) in a grand procession. This is a common practice in the temples of coastal Karnataka (Udupi & Mangalore) or Tulunadu.
